Has anyone ever heard of the Paradox Church?

TOPICS: Other Christian; Religion & Culture; Theology; Worship
KEYWORDS:
I have just started dating a woman who is searching for a meaningful religion as I am. She mentioned that she has been attending a church called "Paradox" which attempts to get back to the basic foundation of religion via the Bible and not the various interpretations by off spring religions.

Has anyone here ever heard of Paradox Church?

I thank you for your help........

I have never heard of that church before but looked them up on goggle and found this web page with their faith statement.

Paradox Church is rooted in the Christian faith. We’re called an Apostolic Church in that we look to follow the directions given by Jesus Christ through the Bible. There are some issues that churches interpret differently; we welcome different approaches on those ideas. However, we stand strong on certain basic issues of the Christian faith. As a new church, we’re a link in a long chain; we’re a continuation of this ancient faith. We embrace our connection to the past, while recognizing that we must explain Jesus Christ so our current culture understands Him.

I have not.

While I am heartily skeptical of traditions-of-man burying Christianity, I would be cautious about anyone who just throws the baby out with the bathwater.

While people place too much emphasis on traditions, and traditions tend to overshadow the original purpose, there usually (usually) is a good reason for the original tradition.

Myself, the only thing I think most of Chistiandom is guilty of is being so worried about Judaizers that they became Paganizers.

“Does that sound bad or good?”

Depends what they mean by “basics.”

Have them list their statements of faith, e.g.:

1. Jesus was (and is) the Messiah. He was sinless Son of God.

2. He was Crucified, died, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven

Etc.

Lots and lots can be disagreed about by reasonable Christians.

Certain core things cannot be, however.

If the core things (and I hit the highlights above) are “negotiable,” brush the dust off your feet and run away.

In general, I like apostolic churches myself, however there are churches that call themselves apostolic and become embroiled in legalism.
The apostolic approach is a new trend in Christian Churches. I don't think that is a bad thing.
Go with your lady friend and pick up their fliers with faith statements. See how they handle their services, their music, even how they greet new people. What is the biases of what they believe. Is is Salvation? How do they explain the very nature of God, of Jesus Christ?
That's what I look for.
God's speed.

So much for expecting legitimate advice to religious questions around here......

I guess I should have posted this thread under humor...........I'll know better next time.

Good one!

FWIW, the entire Christian [C]hurch is a paradox. Life comes from death; We find ourselves when we give ourselves away to Christ; We enjoy our blessings when we are willing to lose them; etc.

Beyond that, I have no idea of what you’re asking about.

I've given up on all these newfangled religions and joined The Church of The SubGenius........

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."
