The Archdiocese of St. Paul has a list of 33 priests accused of sexually abusing minors. But, unlike a similar list of priests revealed this week by St. John's Abbey in Collegeville, the St. Paul priests will remain unnamed.
St. John's released the names of 17 monks who have faced credible allegations of sexual abuse or misconduct as part of a lawsuit settlement.
Victims' rights advocates have pushed to make such lists public for years. Roman Catholic archdioceses in Milwaukee, Chicago and Baltimore are among those that have revealed the names of accused priests...

A recent accusation was just made public in the Diocese I live in..he was put on leave and the name made public.. so to say that is “how it works” is just not true...

Dioceses all over the country are releasing the names of accused priests. Why? Not only to protect children and families, but to protect those same dioceses from further charges of collusion and conspiracy.
All the obscuring verbiage in the world doesn’t change the fact that Crimen Sollicitationis is still in effect and the oath of secrecy still covers the accuser in all cases of priestly misdeeds.
Tell that to the many RC diocese who have released the names of priests accused of various sexual crimes.
Exactly... I think the release of the name is very important.. because other victims may find the courage to come forward too
That is certainly one important reason for releasing the names.
Clearly, releasing the names isn't illegal, or dozens of diocese wouldn't be releasing the names of accused priests.
Whether these dioceses are interested in the welfare of families and children, or they are concerned with avoiding further criminal charges of collusion and conspiracy, we don't know.

I don’t know the reasons why any individual diocese releases or chooses not to release the names. You’ll have to contact officials there for truthful answers. Anything I say would be an opinion or guess.
I haven idea if they are breaking the law. Have you studied to be a lawyer? I sure haven’t. Can’t help you with that one.

Since many Roman Catholic diocese have released the names of suspected pederast priests, I doubt they are breaking the law.
And if those dioceses can and do release the names of suspected pederast priests, they all should in order to protect children and families from these criminals.

that is not what has been happening all over the world for decades, if not centuries. These pederasts are kept on the job, or shuffled from one unsuspecting parish to the next where they are free to rape more children.

That is not true. Many of these cases involve current priests. But one of the reasons for publishing the names of these priests is so that other victims will come forward when they realize they are not alone.

You need to read the 2011 Philadelpia Grand Jury report and compare it to the 2005 Grand Jury report. Part of the intense fury voiced by the Grand Jury is that NOTHING had been done to remedy the situation, but instead, more empty denials and hiding of pederast priests. Which is why I try to avoid these threads. I just wanted to compliment a person on a job well done. Don’t worry. I live my faith on a daily basis. I don’t let silliness like this get to me. My children are in the Church on a regular basis. I’m not worried about them AT ALL! I know all the things my husband had to go through to volunteer with the Scout program. It’s not the same as it used to be.
I have a personal way of looking at this. My mom was raised in the equivalent of Mayberry. Nothing bad ever happened and they were free to roam with no worries. So when my brother and I came along, she tried to raise us the same way. The problem is, the world around her changed and she wasn’t aware of all the bad things that were happening. Things happened to me that shouldn’t have. I didn’t tell my parents until I was an adult. They felt horrible but they couldn’t go back in time to change what happened. Instead, they are now helping me raise my children in a more safe environment. This is how I see the Church. I know it’s simplistic and I realize it is just my opinion but I love my Lord and the Church He left for me. It isn’t perfect but it will always be here. He gave me His word. My children will know, love and serve the Lord with the help of the beautiful Catholic Church and the many wonderful, holy men that serve us.
With that little story I will attempt to leave this thread. I don’t need the negativity that permeates this place.
And thus the non-defense of the faith by those who can only make the discussion personal.

I don’t like to be on the defensive all the time. There’s no reason at all for me to be there. You can keep at this all you want but it seems like a very sad way to go through life.
