Judges are supposed to hear evidence, not present it.

For anyone following the criminal trial of Philadelphia's pederast priests, this turn of event is pretty jaw-dropping.

Apparently one of the defense attorneys is a possible witness in the case.

Thanks to Dr. Scarpetta for passing it along.

Jesus. High Priest

We thank you, God our Father, for those who have responded to your call to priestly ministry.

Accept this prayer we offer on their behalf: Fill your priests with the sure knowledge of your love.

Open their hearts to the power and consolation of the Holy Spirit.

Lead them to new depths of union with your Son.

Increase in them profound faith in the Sacraments they celebrate as they nourish, strengthen and heal us.

Lord Jesus Christ, grant that these, your priests, may inspire us to strive for holiness by the power of their example, as men of prayer who ponder your word and follow your will.

O Mary, Mother of Christ and our mother, guard with your maternal care these chosen ones, so dear to the Heart of your Son.

Intercede for our priests, that offering the Sacrifice of your Son, they may be conformed more each day to the image of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Saint John Vianney, universal patron of priests, pray for us and our priests

This icon shows Jesus Christ, our eternal high priest.

The gold pelican over His heart represents self-sacrifice.

The border contains an altar and grapevines, representing the Mass, and icons of Melchizedek and St. Jean-Baptiste Vianney.

Melchizedek: king of righteousness (left icon) was priest and king of Jerusalem.  He blessed Abraham and has been considered an ideal priest-king.

St. Jean-Baptiste Vianney is the patron saint of parish priests.

More prayers for the pederast priests?

When a man considers himself to be an "alter Christus," another Christ, there is no limit to his corruption.

So when confronted with evidence that one of the defense attorneys might be called as a witness to the alleged crime, what should the judge have done?

Prosecutors assert that Lynn “colluded” with the priests and archdiocesan leaders “to deceive parishioners so that known child abusers could continue as active and revered priests.”

Yeah, so lets pray for the priests and not their victims.

He should have declared a mistrial.

Why wasn't the "evidence" presented in open court by the prosecution?

The judge just introduced hearsay.

And you don't have a problem with that?

The lawyer, who represents one of three current and former Roman Catholic priests charged with raping boys in their parish, fired back that prosecutors were being "anti-Catholic" and had uttered an "abomination."

Talk about classic knee jerk reaction.

Don't confuse them with the facts. You're an anti-Catholic bigot if you dare do anything they don't like.

He?"

What a surprise. You apparently didn't read the thread you're commenting on.

Lawyers can be disqualified from a case because of conflict of interest.

If he’s to be a witness in the case, and if he was indeed a former seminarian, he has no business being involved like that.

The judge did the right thing.

There have to be other lawyers around not connected with the case.

That is exactly what we see on all these threads - prayers for the pederast priests and skepticism for the claims of children and adults whose lives have been destroyed.

When we wonder why the homosexual agenda is permeating our society, we should remember that the RCC intentionally hatches homosexuals.

This sounds very, very strange to me. The judge and the prosecutor have sat down together and shared all the evidence, but the defense attorneys haven’t seen any of it?

And they want to refuse a preliminary look at the evidence on this basis?

This judge sounds as if she should be removed from the case.
