Some might call it joyful. :(
First off, he isn't "good". Check out what Jesus had to say when someone called Him good.
but its like they are avoiding what Jesus did and moving right along to Joseph Smith and the book of Mormon. Am I wrong for believing that?
No, you are not wrong nor are you alone in noticing it.
And everything good is considered evil and evil, good.
, TELL THE TRUTH and then the OTHER guy has to deal with it!
Exactly right.
I like it loud so I can sing my heart out and only God can hear me. I too am a “joyful noise” singer, LOL!
I personally love to hear voices joined together in worship. I like harmonies - in fact I like the MoTab Choir. Maybe it comes from my years growing up in Mormonism.
I’ve heard others say the opposite, that because of the years spent in Mormonism - they can appreciate the loudness and joyfulness of a rock band.
That’s what is so great about Christianity. If you don’t like the style at one of His church groups, you are free to attend another. Jesus doesn’t care how you sing, only that you do. :D
This is true for me.
There are certain songs/hymns that still hit a nerve when I hear them.
The "meaning" and "purpose" behind their use are what cause me to reject them.
I suppose it will take some time, but for now, I am finding that Contemporary Christian music works for me. No "memories".
I still have a hard time praying on my knees - too many bad memories. I lie prostrate on my face, but I don’t kneel.
And breaking the ‘Old English’ habit when I pray has been a long and difficult journey.
The Olde English is one that I find awkward. When I bless our food, I find myself deliberately thinking about my prayer. Not good, but I pray that God will understand.
Praying, I can do ok, not great. Still kneel, but also just close my eyes wherever I’m at and beseech Him. Especially for patience with our soon to be 16 y.o. son. Ungh!
But I take comfort in the fact that God is happy to just have me coming to Him once again.
16 y.o. son. I’ll pray for you (in modern day language)!
I have a soon to be 16 y.o. grandson. I raised three boys to adulthood, and now I can rest!
Tell me the “secrets” PLEASE!!!!
LOL. If I knew the secrets, I’d be rich.
But I’ve been so blessed you can’t even imagine. They all (three sons and two daughters) own homes, have children, good jobs and my oldest proudly serves his country in the armed forces (he’ll retire before I will).
Now, I pray that they will get to know our Lord, then life will be complete!
“Your explanation was excellent.”
Thanks, I know it’s a verse that can easily confuse people, especially compared to other verses that instruct us to judge. Like you said, it’s tossed out there so often to stifle Christian viewpoints, you’ve got to have an answer ready to that if you want to get very far discussing stuff with non-believers or those just not very familiar with Scripture.
Yeah, isn't that the truth? Just gonna have to muddle through I guess.
Ours wants to join the military, we've been working on keeping his grades up so he has a shot at either an Academy or a ROTC scholarship. We'll see.
Praying for your children.
I switched from my church of 10+ years to another Calvary Chapel church because their music was so loud, so rock-oriented and played such a HUGE role in the church that it became a distraction..they would have extended guitar solos and drum solos, playing as if they were Eric Clapton in front of screaming fans...yuck.
My current church (Edgewater Fellowship in Grants Pass, Oregon) plays respectful music, pretty music, some rock, some jazz, some classical, sometimes using just a person with a guitar and another with a flute...it’s not jarring and loud, as the other church was.

“The only thing I cannot judge is the condition of your heart, that alone is Gods to do.”
Agreed. That’s why I don’t like to speculate if someone is saved or not. I just don’t have any waying of knowing that.
“I didnt say most, I said vast.”
Point taken. Admittedly, I’m speculating as to the makeup of the crowd, but I don’t have the guest list, so it’s just the impression I got. But, I could drop my first argument and I still think the verse in question can’t be applied the way people commonly attempt to do it.
“okay, Jesus taught people to pray and the church has lost the way...it is not a bunch of talking to God...sorry.”
Ok, I’ll bite. How did Jesus teach people to pray that wasn’t “a bunch of talking to God”?
Start practicing. This is Jim Robs favorite song. Susan has been practicing on the piano. Bring your guitars etc! I expect CC will want to do the solo.
“”It’s a fascinating learning experience,” with Almas LDS Tours. “We go to archeological sites and talk about why we think the Book of Mormon took place there.””
Bwahahaha! I’m going to start giving tours of Chicago and telling people why I think Homer’s Odyssey took place here. Worth a shot, right?
