This is true for me.

There are certain songs/hymns that still hit a nerve when I hear them.

The "meaning" and "purpose" behind their use are what cause me to reject them.

I suppose it will take some time, but for now, I am finding that Contemporary Christian music works for me. No "memories".

I still have a hard time praying on my knees - too many bad memories. I lie prostrate on my face, but I don’t kneel.

And breaking the ‘Old English’ habit when I pray has been a long and difficult journey.
