Ultra-Orthodox Jews Harass Israeli Believers
CBN ^

Posted on 03/12/2011 11:25:57 AM PST by Amerisrael

ARAD, Israel - For the past seven years, the small Messianic Jewish community in the southern Israeli town of Arad has been harassed and persecuted by ultra-Orthodox Jews who accuse them of missionary activity.

The small desert town, with a population of 25,000 mostly secular residents, is home to a growing number of Israeli believers.

Yakim Figueras, pastor of one of the four congregations there, told CBN News that for years, religious Jews have subjected the believing community to sometimes daily cursing and harassment outside their homes.

"They come with either half-truths against us or complete lies…and they entice their own people and try to bring others against us," Figueras said.

On Wednesday, a demonstration organized by Yad L'achim, the aggressive anti-missionary organization, brought about 200 protesters to the home of Polly Sigulim. Their message was clear.

alpha-8-25-02, this may shock you.... but jews do not believe jesus is god, no.

if there is anywhere jews should be safe to believe in their faith, it should be inside israel. so insisting they must believe in jesus is in fact dogmatic.

keep in mind, the crazed bad apples in the hasidic movement are the same people who throw rocks at other jews for violating the sabbath.

Not shocked at all, a follower of Jesus Christ is saved by Grace. That Grace leads to Faith. Without the Grace of God their in no Faith in Jesus.

If witness is not accepted, the fields are ripe for harvest.

The Gospel is freely given and should only be freely received. If Jews don't want Christian witness, they should not be given witness.

Which is your classy way of saying Jews reap what they sow?... well who cares, this is a story of a different sort, void of grace, or witness.

We’re talking about Christians of varied denominations who pose as Jews in the Jewish homeland, and then antagonize Jews, pushing conversion over threats of doomsday hellfire.

We’re talking about Jews who have crossed the line in their quest to avoid false idolatry while observing a denomination of Judaism frozen in the 18th century.

p.s. the idea that jews lack either grace of god or faith is in astoundingly poor taste.

No man including me or you is the judge. Furthermore threats of doomsday hellfire is not the Gospel of the Kingdom. God has no partiality for real estate.

Those Christian missionaries have to lie in order to do their work. Some how I don’t think that is consistent with a Christian value set. If they were upfront and truthful, then it wouldn’t be such a big deal.

The title is misleading. And so is the name of “messianic Jews.” They are Christians. Some Jews are very upset by the way some of these Christian groups POSE as Jews and try to convert uneducated, unaffiliated born-Jews to Christianity. It’s sneaky.

Now, of course, I condemn violence and any group who condones violence. That’s atrocious and has no part in anything holy. It sure is not Judaism.

Jesus Christ is not G-d?

He is to Christians. He is not, to Jews. And that is perfectly OK with us. We believe that what is right for you, is right for you. We only wish that you would believe that what is right for us, is right for us.

They are of Jewish ethnicity, and accept Jesus as the Messiah. Why is it that one Jew can be an atheist and still be accepted as a Jew, but his brother who believes in Jesus as Messiah is not?

Alpha Numericals, You’re still applying *your* personal religious beliefs and talking about non-believers. Who does that remind you of?

Meanwhile, historically speaking Jesus was an Israelite, and Judaic in beliefs. You’re talking about an indigenous people, who have survived 6,000 years of oppression, and forced conversions and the like. Let’s not cheapen the Christian Zionism with ulterior motives that would challenge the preservation of a Jewish faith.

“They are of Jewish ethnicity, and accept Jesus as the Messiah”

No, Messiach Jews include anyone who claims to be a Jew, and claims to also believe in Jesus as the Messiah.

The Jewish ethnicity is neither here nor there, as the ethnicity doesn’t describe observance. What we have now are Jesus followers who are not of a Jewish lineage, describing themselves as being “Jews”. It’s a movement, like calling Passover “Resurrection Day”.

A basic tenet of Judaism is the belief that the Messiah has yet to arrive - it forbids a belief in Jesus as anything Messianich.

I am not a “christian zionist” and I have no interest in real estate. If Jews want a country “unscathed” by Christians it is their land. My citizenship has nothing to do with earthly boundries.

No idea what you’re talking about.

Israel protects freedom of religion in the Holy Land and openly welcomes Christians, and for that matter, Druze, Bedouins, Muslims, Buddhists, Mormons, and all the rest...they just protect their citizens from missionary work.

That is to say, organized missionary work meant to coerce people away from their current religion is banned. If you know anything about history, and the Jewish diaspora, it’s easy to understand why.

um...and uh... not to challenge your personal beliefs, because you’re welcome to them... but i’d like to point out that your talk about rejecting “earthly boundaries” sounds more new age than anything to do with christiniaty itself....the bible spends much time describing the land in question, and even talks of boundaries. this is true of all three abrahamic faiths, including the koran.

“...try to pass themselves off as Jews “

They are Jews.

A person doesn’t stop being a jew because they embrace Yeshua/Jesus as the Messiah, anymore than some stop being Jews because they believed that Bar Kochba or Hezakiah was the Messiah.

John 18v36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”

Bible lesson over for tonight.

Shalom aleichem’
