Pope includes Hindu verses in prayers on Good Friday

HINDUS HAVE applauded Pope Benedict for including verse from ancient Hindu scripture Upanishads in the Good Friday Meditations and Prayers led by him at Roman Colosseum.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was a remarkable gesture from Pope and invited him to study more ancient Hindu scriptures, which were very rich in philosophical thought. He or other Hindu scholars would gladly provide the help and resources in this regard, if asked, Zed added.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, also commended His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for inclusion of a verse from India’s Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali and reference to peace icon Mahatma Gandhi in these prayers.

This year’s 'Way of the Cross at the Colesseum' Meditations and Prayers on Good Friday, led by Pope, included well-known verse from Brahadaranyakopanishad (“Lead me from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, from death to immortality”), line from Tagore’s Gitanjali (“Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service”) and reference to Mahatma Gandhi.

Rajan Zed stressed that all religions should work together for a just and peaceful world. Dialogue would bring us mutual enrichment, he added.

Pope Benedict heads the Roman Catholic Church, which is the largest of the Christian denominations. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksha (liberation) is its ultimate goal.

Yes, any one worshipping Ganapati has been defrocked.

Where am I accusing? I’m asking a question — you yourself have stated that’s ok.

I haven’t seen that post 364 removed yet — neither the other personal insults by the poster in question.

Saying that another poster is a liar is "making it personal" because it attributes motive, the intent to deceive. It is "making it personal."

Saying that a statement is false, wrong or in error is not "making it personal" because it does not attribute motive.

Saying another poster is repeating a lie is not "making it personal" for the same reason - HOWEVER - it is making the thread "about" the other poster, which can be "making it personal" if you persist in the accusation.

No false accusations at all. It is 100% true that falsehoods by many Protestants in these threads are tolerated by the mods and that gives the posters the encouragement needed to continue such behaviors.

well, the entire thread is filled with that, a pretty good case of “picking at the scab” throughout.

A statement is either a lie or it is true. I don’t see how it is personal to show that a statement is not verifiable. Can we write that a person posted lies?

I for one think that if all this kept the Jesuits away from the Church, it was for the best.

I for one wish that people who were raised Catholic but have not stepped in a church for the last 20 years or who tell themselves they can think whatever they think and still call themselves Catholic would stop doing so.

There is one thing in which Protestants are very fortunate for the most part (except maybe COE) they don’t identify as Protestant as a matter of culture.

There are secular Catholics just as there are secular Jews. Y’all don’t seem to be cursed with such a burden.

And I lay the blame on the extremely poor catechesis(sp) and the dissident groups that so influenced Catholic education in the post Vatican II years.

Read what was written. That cross is upside down because Peter was crucified upside down. The Pope is in line from Peter.

Notice that there is no corpus on the cross. If there was it would indeed be the one used by Satanists because the only corpus to appear on a cross is Jesus.

Look up corpus and learn the difference between a crucifix and a plain cross.

50 million, oh my gosh what an astounding lack of historical accuracy.

As to the martydom Protestants also killed in the name of religion. Both were wrong. We just forget that heresy was a crime against the state (treason) and therefore punishable by death.

Thank you for removing post 364. The thread descended into the cess-pit from the first post.

I used to regularly support FreeRepublic financially. I have refrained from doing so given the deterioration of the Religion Forum. I will not do so again until this kind of notorious abusive poster is reined in.

Manipulation, intimidation, control.

Nope. Just common sense.

Many Catholics and Orthodox are completely fed up that the abusive posters on the Religion Forum are coddled and protected.

We're just not going to take it any more.

I don’t believe she worships Satan. She is very mistaken in what she claims to be true but I won’t say she worships Satan. I do think one can see the influence of the father of lies but I doubt she or others in this thread worship him. They are to be prayed for so that charity may find a home in their hearts.

They hate us and they hate our Church but I Satan worship both in theory and in fact is so loathsome a thing that I will not lay that charge at a person’s feet simply because they make false accusations against the Church.

God is always victorious and He has promised that the gates of hell will not prevail against His bride. So I’ll pray that they learn to recognize lies and avoid posting them.
