Pope includes Hindu verses in prayers on Good Friday
merinews ^ | Apr 14, 2009

HINDUS HAVE applauded Pope Benedict for including verse from ancient Hindu scripture Upanishads in the Good Friday Meditations and Prayers led by him at Roman Colosseum.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was a remarkable gesture from Pope and invited him to study more ancient Hindu scriptures, which were very rich in philosophical thought. He or other Hindu scholars would gladly provide the help and resources in this regard, if asked, Zed added.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, also commended His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for inclusion of a verse from India’s Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali and reference to peace icon Mahatma Gandhi in these prayers.

This year’s 'Way of the Cross at the Colesseum' Meditations and Prayers on Good Friday, led by Pope, included well-known verse from Brahadaranyakopanishad (“Lead me from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, from death to immortality”), line from Tagore’s Gitanjali (“Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service”) and reference to Mahatma Gandhi.

Rajan Zed stressed that all religions should work together for a just and peaceful world. Dialogue would bring us mutual enrichment, he added.

Pope Benedict heads the Roman Catholic Church, which is the largest of the Christian denominations. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksha (liberation) is its ultimate goal.

The version I pasted in the post above is from the PROTESTANT NIV.

Okay point on that one, partly. I say partly because it opens 2 new doors. Door #1 - I don't use the NIV. In many protestant circles the NIV is considered unreliable or less correct to the original text than other versions. We use mostly the NASV; KJV; or NKJV. Even the CEV which is more accurate to the text than the NIV is.

Door #2 - If your translation uses 'NOT as your fathers...' then why do you persist in the unbiblical notion of the heretical eucharist you engage in? So...you are not only violating your own Scriptures you also violate the position of many of the church fathers I posted in Post #325! And 'I'm' the one in the cult....LOL!

do stop repeating the lie about re-c. The sacrifice of Mass is the same ONE-TIME sacrifice of Calvary that is of all time.

The sacrifice is ONE-TIME, completed, done

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not good -- are you so lacking in grace that you repeatedly deny Christ?

To make it clear to you the mass is taking part in what never ends: the offering of Christ to the Father for our sake (Heb 7:25, 9:24).

Christ’s bloody sacrifice on Calvary took place once, and it will never be repeated.Jesus’ offering was perfect, efficacious, and eternal.

Jesus is eternally a priest, and a priest’s very nature is to offer sacrifice.

In the case of Christ, the eternal sacrifice that he offers is himself. This is why he appears in the book of Revelation as a lamb, standing as though he had been slain (Revelations 5:6).

For all eternity i.e. outside time He, who is out of time is appealing to the work of the cross, interceding for us (Rom 8:34), and bringing the graces of Calvary to us.

Now it is clear that The difference between Christ’s death on the cross—the event—and the Eucharist—the sacrament—is the difference between history and liturgy.

The historical event happened once and it will never again be repeated (Heb. 9:25–26). The liturgical sacrament, however, not only keeps the past from being forgotten; through it the Eucharist of history—Jesus’ passion and death—is made present again.

I’m simply asking for an explanation of that quotation. Do you not know, or are you unwilling to share it with me?

Oh bla bla bla. You forgot this one:

For “to keep a feast,” as one of the wise men of Greece has well said, “is nothing else than to do one's duty; “and that man truly celebrates a feast who does his duty and prays always, offering up continually bloodless sacrifices in prayer to God. That therefore seems to me a most noble saying of Paul, “Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.” -Origen, Against Celsus 8.21

“Now, if ‘everything that entereth into the mouth goes into the belly and is cast out into the drought,’ even the meat which has been sanctified through the word of God and prayer, in accordance with the fact that it is material, goes into the belly and is cast out into the draught, but in respect of the prayer which comes upon it, according to the proportion of the faith, becomes a benefit and is a means of clear vision to the mind which looks to that which is beneficial, and it is not the material of the bread but the word which is said over it which is of advantage to him who eats it not unworthily of the Lord. And these things indeed are said of the typical and symbolical body. But many things might be said about the Word Himself who became flesh, and true meat of which he that eateth shall assuredly live for ever, no worthless person being able to eat it; for if it were possible for one who continues worthless to eat of Him who became flesh, who was the Word and the living bread, it would not have been written, that 'every one who eats of this bread shall live for ever.’” -Origen, Commentary on Matthew, On Matthew 11:14

Interesting how you like to cherry pick Origin, rejecting the parts that don't agree repasting the parts that do?? I'll let Origen interpret Origin. I don't need you to do it for me thanks.

The problem is that many people are completely taken up by Anton LeVay and then deny Christ and Christ's Church, the One Holy Apostolic Catholic Church.

What is really sad is that even after repeatedly telling them that we participate in the ONE heavenly sacrifice, they keep deluding themselves. Oh well.

And what makes it even funnier is when deniers of Christ's words just publish snippets of anti-Catholicism that they found on the internet.

1. Origen -- you've never actually read the Commentary on Matthew, have you? This very chapter says:Firstly, this is a commentary on Matthew 14 --> you DO know there are 4 Gospels, right? and the one I was referring to was John?
Origen -- you've never actually read the Commentary on Matthew, have you? This very chapter says

Oh for pete’s sake. Baiting now are we? Projection?

Are you or are you not going to admit you celebrate the Eucharist REPEATEDLY? If so......its NOT ONCE FOR ALL. I’m not the one who places Christ on the altar every time the Eucharist is partaken of - YOU DO.

Please note the baiting Cronos is engaging in trying to get me kicked off in #341 where he calls ME a liar. That's just one post btw. He's done it repeatedly.

Very unbecoming behavior Cronos. Very unChristlike.
