Pope John Paul II's blood to be relic in Polish church

A vial containing blood drawn from Pope John Paul II shortly before he died will be installed as a relic in a Polish church soon after his beatification later this year, an official said Monday. Piotr Sionko, the spokesman for the John Paul II Center, said the vial will be encased in crystal and built into the altar of a church in the southern city of Krakow that is opening in May. The exact date of the opening is not yet known, but it should be shortly after John Paul's beatification at the Vatican on May 1........... "It was the cardinal's proposal," Sionko said. "He is of the opinion that this is the most precious relic of John Paul II and should be the focal point of the church." .........

"The idea of displaying the pope's relics has met with some reservations, even inside the Catholic Church. "The tradition of relics comes from medieval practices of teaching the Bible through images and symbols," said the Rev. Krzysztof Madel, a Jesuit priest in Nowy Sacz who has publicly questioned the usefulness of displaying John Paul's blood. "But in today's rationalized world the message should rather come through teaching about someone's life." After John Paul's death, some Polish officials said they hoped John Paul's heart would be removed from his body and returned to his homeland for burial. However, church officials dismissed any possibility of dismembering the body, saying the age had passed for that practice. Dziwisz said Friday that he has always been against dividing of the body, but that "relics have always existed and will always exist."

Anyone who knew no better than that about scapulars would certainly not be considered a competent religion teacher in any Catholic parish. That is superstition, a sin.

As is 99% of what the church teaches..

If my 1st communion teacher that taught me that and the Priest that enrolled me in the scapula, a "sacramental " at my first communion I would let them know Judith says they were not competent

"The Sabbatine Privilege is a special promise extended to all who wear the scapular and are enrolled in the scapular. The privilege was approved by Pope John XXII, and was later confirmed by Pope Gregory XIII, Pope Clement VII, and Pope St. Pius V. The privilege states that those souls who keep the necessary requirements of the privilege will be released from purgatory by Our Lady the Saturday after they die. The requirements are: 1.The scapular must be worn and the wearer must be enrolled in the scapular. 2. Chastity to one's state in life must be observed. 3. One must fast from meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays. 4. You must recite the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin or the rosary everyday.

Amazing....... superstitious popes..who would have guessed ??? "

Catholics believe we can be saved
BY Christ,

and we can learn
that such salvation is possible

because God works

THROUGH the Church,

and it is always THROUGH a member of that Church that we are baptised.

A man cannot baptise himself.
And to our knowledge,

God has chosen to baptise
individuals through the hands of other men (the Church).

For persons who were never able to receive such a baptism (because they died in the delivery room or in the womb, e.g. or because they were raised in a communist dictatorship that outlawed the gospel, e.g.) we can hope that God’s mercy will be available for such persons in the form of a baptism that we as earthly men cannot see or understand.

Did you baptise yourself?

Man goes into a barber shop and sees a lady barber there -- it's the local Baptist pastor's wife, Grace.

She shaves him and charges him $50. He's shocked at the price but still pays. It's a good shave and it's still smooth a week later, so the man is pleased -- it's even smooth for 2 more weeks. When the man finally goes to the barber lady after a month, he says -- "boy your price is high, but it's worth it."

The barber looks at him and says "You were shaved by Grace. Once shaved, always shaved."

Mat 28: 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

>>One can read for oneself from the Gospel of John that the doubters in the bread of life discourse doubted because they took Jesus literally and found it offensive and unbelievable that Jesus would offer His own flesh to eat:<<

Yes they can. The Jews were doing the same thing that the Roman Catholics do in thinking it was the literal, physical flesh Jesus was talking about. They, like the Roman Catholics did not understand that Jesus was the “bread of life”, the “bread sent from heaven”. The difference between the Jews and Roman Catholics was that they saw the physical flesh analogy repulsive but the Roman Catholics don’t.

Put you faith in the flesh if you want but Jesus said:

I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh."

John 6:35 “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

You must then believe that Jesus is a loaf of bread. I don’t.

Good, yet you said “”I know this may come as a shock, but the saved do not care what Rome says about anything..”” —> and yet you seem to care quite a bit about what “Rome” says about everything — since you post and comment nearly exclusively on Catholic topics. So, if the shaved do not care what Rome says about anything, either you are not shaved or the statement is false

You know just enough to be confused.

If a priest does not intend to celebrate the Eucharist, then there is no sacramental Eucharist.

If a priest who is not in a state of grace (e.g. he has committed mortal sin and not contritely confessed it and done the assigned penance) intends to celebrate the Eucharist, as I said we “trust in God’s mercy and do not hold the sins of the priest against the unwitting believer who thinks he is worthily partaking in communion.”

Whenever you learn the difference between “scapula” and “scapular,” nurse, get back to me. Until then, it is pointless to post here.

Now tell me this. When you say "flesh" are you talking about meat or bread?

You know

Reading the mind of another Freeper is a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

I will correct your error. This is what you (a misinformed protestant) said in post 158:

“Catholics believe they are saved by /through the church.”

I (a Catholic) responded by explaining what we actually believe, and what you pretend we believe is only important to you.

And yet note that John 6 goes on to say
53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.
And note -- Jesus REPEATS THIS -- he does not correct them, like he did elsewhere as in Matt. 16:5–12
5 When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. 6 “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 7 They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.” 8 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? 9 Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? 10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? 11 How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
