People don’t consider LDS Christians because they do not fit into their little box of what Christianity is. I, like you, believe that so long as someone accepts Christ as their Savior, then then they are Christian. So often, different sects of Christianity will even shun other sects, because they were the Baptist movement of 1848, instead of the one founded in 1762. Then, I wonder why I have friends who read their Bibles and follow Jesus Christ, but are so anti-organized religion.

But you see HungarianGypsy, the Bible tells us we must have FAITH in Christ and not just a belief, because even the demons believe in Him.

Faith means you trust and rely that His atonement, His grace, His satisfaction of His justice has been accomplished and that you are saved through Christ by that faith.

I might have a belief that I can fly - but faith is what would make me jump off the cliff to prove it.

Mormonism teaches that Christ’s sacrifice enables you to perform ordinances and covenants that we save you. That is why they are called “saving covenants.” So what are they putting their faith in? Is it Christ and His atonement or is it their works and covenants. I posit that they put their faith in their own works, or why else would they go to the Temple, or pay their tithing or obey the Word of Wisdom if not to gain themselves glory.

I disagree with the first sentence. SOME people don’t, but others have specific qualifiable reasons. Is a person that says he is a Christian, but thinks that Jesus is merely an “idea” and never really existed, really a Christian? It’s actually an easy question.

Regarding the second sentence. I DO agree with you. And I even think a lot of mormons (especially new ones) DO accept Jesus the Christ as their savior. However, that is not what the mormon church teaches and if they stay long enough they will discover it and leave. It is why there are organizations like “ex-mormons for Jesus” and Saints alive.

This is actually serious, yet simple, stuff we are talking about here. It is like 2+2=4. It is simple, but if you are making a mathematical calculation upon which your life depends, your belief in it being true or not could determine your future.

A lot of life’s decisions are like that. Simple but important. And even though an unbiased outsider sees the choice as obvious, a surprising number of people screw it up - be it premarital sex, drugs, alcohol, you name it. We all have a propensity to make bad choices even when we KNOW what the correct choice is. We see the “good” in the bad choice and run with it.

And, to use one example that is a favorite of mine, FHE looks REALLY good to a young couple just starting out in the same way that compulsory public education looks really good to a culture that is trying to better itself, as it did in Nazi Germany.

But the devil is in the details - literally. And those details are being glossed over by far too many on this thread.

Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump.

I shouted, "Don't do it!"

He said, "Nobody loves me."

I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"

He said, "Yes."

I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?"

He said, "A Christian."

I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?"

He said, "Protestant."

I said, "Me, too! What franchise?"

He said, "Baptist."

I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?"

He said, "Northern Baptist."

I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"

He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist."

I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?"

He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"

I said, "Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?"

He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912."

I said, "Die, heretic scum!"

And I pushed him over.
