I hope that you are trying to find another, forsake not the gathering of yourselves.
Without being inflammatory at all, Tithing repreents giving to God the first fruits, it represents acknowledging that ALL we have comes from Him anyway, it represents TRUST that God will provide for your needs..
Imagine....”Thank you Lord, for saving my soul, I trust you with that. But the money thing, i have that handled, I got it, Thanks, no need to interfere here.”
Giving the tithe, and doing so joyfully shows trust in the Lord.
Rip,
Thanks for checking your statement.
They were not instructed to tithe 100%.
They had hearts that were moved by unity
and the pressing need that the situation
in Jerusalem created in the life of the
early church.
Best,

It is a Christian thing too (hat tip to SVTCobra)
Matthew 23:23:
Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spicesmint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the lawjustice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
Notice Jesus said, You should have practiced the latter (justice, mercy and faithfulness), without neglecting the former (tithing). The fathers argued, and rightful so, that Jesus word ends the discussion. Since Jesus said not to neglect the formerbeing tithingthen no believer should neglect tithing.
You understand it incorrectly.
Temple attendance is an additional benefit for those who are committed to keeping the commandments - of which tithing is one. It has not been repealed, same as the ten commandments have not been repealed either.
And the other thing you don’t seem to understand is that a person is asked whether or not they are a full tithe payer. A person could be a total liar and say that they are. That is what is recorded.
No one is denied participation in church (the buildings and resources paid for by tithers). Anyone can participate in activities (which are paid for by tithing funds as well). Scouts are paid for by tithing funds, children’s activities are paid for by tithing funds, the buildings are cleaned by members. Weddings, receptions and funerals are held at churches at no cost (try that at another church). All paid for by tithing funds. Church pays for certain humanitarian aid, educational subsidies (BYU), funding for Prop 8 activities, etc.
I could go on. I will say that there are still more people who ride in the wagon than who pull it. But that is true of any organization.
And anyone who thinks that they have a right to additional benefits, just because they exist is WRONG. Do you buy into the notion that everyone is entitled to what they want, even if they don’t earn it?
Those who show more commitment, get to move to the next level.
Temple attendance is earned. It is not a right.
Even the welfare program requires that those who participate, give back in return.
I just see tithing like this...
The tithe is 10% yes but here is the tricky part its the first 10% not the left over 10%
God gave the law in the old testament, and it required the shedding of blood for the remission of sins. Not just any blood but the blood of the best. In the law all of the firstborn were to be given to Him. As a sacrifice. It is also of note that God said in the law that it ALL belongs to Him anyway and he just lets us administer it.
As we went on through history we see the birth of God Himself in Christ. The Firstborn of God.
I have noticed that everything in the law was made tougher in the teachings of Jesus and Paul. Such as if you commit adultry under the law you are to be punished but Jesus said if you look on a woman and lust you commit adultry.(tougher right?) If you kill a person under the law you are to be punished but Jesus said you shouldn’t even speak ill of another person. (tougher right?) Under the law a person was to carry someones luggage one mile. Jesus said go two miles (Tougher again right?)
Well lets get back to the First 10%.. God demanded the first 10% of everything when he gave the law. Well the way I see it is it got tougher after the birth of the Firstborn of God. There is no remission of sins without the shedding of blood. (God doesn’t change) So for us to have the remission of sins the FIRST born of God would have to do the deal for us. (even Harder right?) This may tick some of you off but I really don’t care. JESUS WAS GODS TITHE.
So if God can give his best and his first. Then why can’t a Christian give the first 10% of thier income, time or whatever.
Tithing is hard because where a mans treasure is there will his heart be also. So where is your treasure?
Flame away... I don’t mind. I know where God has lead the Biased family regarding this issue and it isn’t one anymore.
BTW I am not a Morman but a Southern Baptist.
Oh and Glen was saying that If we CHRISTIANS gave God’s Tithe back to Him the Government wouldn’t have to take care of what the Church should be taking care of.
Do you wanna be blessed on the gross or on the net?
God wants his 10% First.
The first 10% is what God wants back anything over that is an offering and is a sweet aroma to Him.
Reread my post. The part about tense.
One Cannon.
God is the same yesterday today and tomorrow.
The God of Abraham Issac and Jacob is the same one that died on the cross for your sins.
>>The first 10% is what God wants back anything over that is an offering and is a sweet aroma to Him.<<
You are going back to Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus etc. regarding the burnt offering. Christ is our offering.
In the new testament, the word “aroma” is used as well.
2 Corinthians 2:15
For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
I’m getting the feeling we have a lot of “Jewish Christians” here.
Tithing was never even in the Old Testament Biblical times; people gave 30% and upwards because Israel was a Theocracy.
New Testament giving involves the Heart, God is always concerned about the heart, and not some rote type giving that isn’t done cheerfully, but with a motive to be given back more in return. You can’t fool God, and there’s unfortunately too many corrupt and errant Pastors out there who twist God’s Word to fit their own evil motives.
>>God is the same yesterday today and tomorrow.<<
But there are two covenants. And one was completed by the latter much in the same way that a “lease with an option to purchase” is completed when the purchase is made.
How do you know that the Holy Ghost never said that ???
Are you God ???
Are you going to shoot someone with that one cannon?
Not a “Jewish Christian” lol
but a Christian none the less.
I don’t believe God has Changed since he thought the world into existance.
We don’t barter in Goats or cattle or sheep anymore but we barter in money.
He wants the first 10% given back to him and anything over that is even better. The sweet aroma was in regard to the drink offering that was over and above the tithe of the Firstborn sheep goat or calf. The drink offering was to be poured over the burnt offering and it was a sweet aroma to God. It was actually the best drink that the person had to offer after thier tithe.
That kinda flies in the face of the ol’ “don’t let the left hand know what the right is doing” thing.
I prefer to give cash. I don’t care about the tax deduction. But then, since I rent it is not much of an issue. And even my home in Kentucky gets my interest to less than half of the standard $11,000. SO cash is king. My church has no clue where it comes from when I give it.
Yeah “come and take it” lol
Sorry I type therefore I missspell...
Good post!
>>I dont believe God has Changed since he thought the world into existance.<<
I don’t think He changes either. However, just as I treat my adult daughters differently than I treated them when they were teens, and treated them differently as teens than as toddlers, I believe God does treat mankind differently from “age” to “age”. I believe the second covenant of the blood of Christ is just such a change in God’s relationship with man.
