There was no new covenant in the time frame covered by the gospels ... The Gospels show us the divinity and the humanity of Christ to validate the New Covenant that began with the resurrection and Pentecost.
I believe the crux of the New Testament is the forgiveness of sin and the reconciliation of God with men. The crux of the NT is the cross and resurrection of Christ

From the NASB, I Corinth 11:25. Also, see the Gospel of Luke on the Last Supper.

There was no new covenant in the time frame covered by the gospels ... Oh, really? What do you call this?
Luke 22:20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.

Come on now -- Jesus came to give the new covenant! The Gospels are the core teachings of Christ -- and that is why they were what was preached in the first generation of Christians and that is why they are the source on which +Paul comments.
Now, Do you agree that the Gospels and the Beatitudes are the most important part of the New Covenant?
The Church lives and breathes scripture and Tradition -- neither contradicting each other. At Mass each Sunday we read from the Old Testament, the Gospels, the Epistles and the rest of the New Testament, we sing psalms, we teach, we learn, we preach, we listen, we experience a personal relationship with Christ in the Eucharist, we remember with awe and trembling His sacrifice, we celebrate His life, we mourn His death and we rejoice at His resurrection and ascension into Heaven, we repeat our words of belief in God the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, the Triune God, God from God, light from light, True God from True God. This is The Church of Christ in His fullness, THIS is the One Holy Apostolic and Catholic Church, Christ's Church, protected by the Holy Spirit and keeping the faith as taught by Christ through His Apostles and their disciples and their disciples disciples.

ok, so now you agree to the meaning of crux, right?
And you say that the crux of the NT is the cross and the resurrection of Christ, right? Where is that described? In the Gospels.
hence the Gospels are THE Crux of the NT and that is why they were the earliest canon widely distributed to all
