"...the Tanakh (OT) never mentions a Messiah that does part of the job and then comes back 2000 years later to finish the job."Sure it does:Daniel 9:24-27

This should not come as suprise to you...but the Jewish view of Daniel 9 is not about Jesus. First of all the correct translation of Moshiach, in the hebrew, means annointed. Preists, kings and even Israel is called G-ds annointed or Messiah. Even non-Jews can be messiahs or annointed ones, ie Cyrus. It the passage of Daniel 9, there are two different annointed ones. One good, one bad. (yes annointed ones CAN be bad.) The sencond annointed one(messiah) in Daniel 9, is "cut-off" because he is bad. There is never an example in scripture of a reighteous person being "cut-off". They are killed, murdered etc...never "cut-off".

Isaiah 45:1 Thus saith the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him, and to loose the loins of kings; to open the doors before him, and that the gates may not be shut:

The first "anointed" is Cyrus: Isaiah proclaims that Cyrus would give the actual command to rebuild Jerusalem. God declares through the prophet, "He [Cyrus] shall build My city" (Isaiah 45:13; see also Ezra 1:1-8, 6:1-5). Indeed, it was Cyrus who issued a proclamation (ca. 537 B.C.E.) for the return, and for the rebuilding to start. This occurred forty-nine years after the destruction of Jerusalem. God declares concerning Cyrus, "He is My shepherd, and shall perform all My pleasures; even saying of Jerusalem: 'She shall be built'; and to the Temple: 'Your foundation shall be laid'" (Isaiah 44:28). Hence, the Scriptures teach that it was during the reign of Cyrus that the rebuilding of the city began. This was symbolized, first of all, by the start of construction on the Second Temple, which was completed ca. 516 B.C.E., seventy years after the destruction. It is with the completion of the Temple that the period of desolation officially terminates. (Jews for judaism.)

The first seven weeks ends in 537 B.C.E. The second segment of the Seventy Weeks period, sixty-two weeks in length, covered by verse 26, culminates in 103 B.C.E. (586-49-434=103 B.C.E.). Verse 26 indicates that "after sixty-two weeks an anointed one shall be cut off." This "anointed one" is the High Priest Alexander Yannai (103-76 B.C.E.) who came to power just at the end of the sixty-two week period in 103 B.C.E. and was the last of the important Hasmonean leaders. The phrase "after sixty-two weeks" indicates the time frame during which the "anointed one shall be cut off," that is, suffer karet, "excision." The penalty accompanying karet is here aptly described as "to have nothing," or "be no more." This punishment is given to Alexander Yannai infamous for his unjust, tyrannical, and bloody rule. He is notorious for his open violent animosity against the Pharisees and his brazen rejection of the Oral Law. For example, Josephus records that Alexander Yannai fought against the Pharisees for six years, "and . . . slew no fewer than fifty thousand of them" (Jewish Antiquities XIII. 13. 5. [373]). He also "ordered some eight hundred of the Jews to be crucified, and slaughtered their children and wives before the eyes of the still living wretches" (Jewish Antiquities XIII. 14. 2. [380]).

Dear Belteshazzar...thank you for your kind words but I dont think I brought up anything but the obvious.

I personally believe you may be reading too much into Matthews thought process.

Matt 2:15 This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet...

Matt is saying this is a fullfillment of a prophecy and like the other prophecy of being a Nazarene, it is a non-prophecy. Hosea wasnt making a prophecy. Israel had already been out of Egypt. This is called the Peshat. The plain meaning of the text.

Also, isnt it odd that Matthew is the only one that makes Jesus go to Egypt?

The attempt at a parallel between Jesus and Israel coming out of Egypt just isnt warranted. There is no evidence that Herod made a decree to kill the firstborn or that firstborn males were killed throught Israel. Matthew made up the prophecy.

"Matthew revealed the fuller meaning of Hosea 11:1."

There is no way of making it fuller! G-d is mearly longing for his people that he Brought out of Egypt. Why? Because they are sinning...he want them to stop and return to HIm.

You are free to do so, and have been for 234 years and one day. I in turn am free to disagree.

As for all the rest of what you said, I have no response other than to say that the Old Testament, stripped of its central meaning and promise regarding the nature, person, work, and coming of the promised Savior, the Messiah, is like a beautiful handcrafted box masterfully built to safeguard and display a precious jewel. Opened and viewed with the jewel, the two together are exquisite. But, however finely worked the jewel box, once the jewel has been taken out and cast away, it is finally just an empty box to be filled with whatever your imagination conjures up for you.

So, left with the choice of taking Matthew’s exegesis of the Old Testament here and everywhere else or yours, I will hold on to the box and precious jewel together, as God intended. You can keep your empty box and all that you have placed in it.

"and have been for 234 years and one day"

And lets hope for another 234 years and then some!

You can keep your empty box and all that you have placed in it.

What makes you assume my box is empty? As a matter of fact I have a beautiful and deep relationship with HaShem, maker of heaven and earth and all that there is. Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh HaKadosh Baruch Hu! Holy Holy Holy is the Holy One blessed be He!

I hold onto His promise for Messiah as given in the Tanakh (OT). G-ds word is very clear. The law is forever. We can do the law, we will do the law. Gentiles, in the end of days, will come to know the law, learn His ways, learn His ordinances. Gentiles will realize they have inherited lies. I have spriptures for each and everyone of those statements. Scriptures easily understood by their plain meaning.

Now, why would I want a have a counterfeit, when I have the real thing? Your box dear FRiend is a mirage, when you get close to it, it disappears. Every aspect of the man from Nazareth being The Messiah is a mirage.

G-d forbids human sacrifice.

G-d forbids vicarious atonement.

G-d does not require a blood sacrifice.

G-d did not have relations with a mortal woman.

G-d does not permit the eating of human flesh or the drinking of Human blood.

G-d does not do away with the Sabbath.

G-d does not do away with Kashrut.(dietary laws)

G-d does not do away with circumcision.

G-d does not give us the law at Sinai, and for 1500 years let us stumble...just to prove a point....that is treachery.

G-d doesnt reveal Himself at Sinai..As HaShem Echad (One)...only to 1700 years later say...I am really three.

See, that is counterfeit stuff. All of that is supported by Christian doctrine in the NT...and specifically forbidden by G-d in the OT. I will stick with HaShem, Melech HaOlam. G-d, King of the Universe, King of the World.

That being your take, our conversation is at an end. I leave you with the words of a Jew wise beyond anything you have said, and greatly beloved of God. May you hear him:

“O Lord, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all those around us. Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord’s sake cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary, which is desolate. O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolation, and the city which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies.

O Lord, hear!
O Lord, forgive!
O Lord, listen and act!

Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”

Hope all is well with you and you had a good 4th!. I really had a hard time with this 4th. Our government is so horribly corrupt and is shreading what is left of our constitutional republic...(Can we whole hearterdly agree there? I'm thinkin' so! :o) )

On that, we are in TOTAL agreement. We had a hard time this 4th, also. What is happening in D.C. is an abomination. It’s very difficult to see beyond the present disgrace, but hopefully November will be the beginning of our light. The darkness that has descended MUST be stopped. God Bless!

My FRiend Daniel: Interesting that you choose that scripture.

O Lord, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from your city Jerusalem,.....

Why was Daniel pleading for G-d to turn away his anger?

Dan 9:5 we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

Dan 9: 10 we have not obeyed the LORD our God or kept the laws he gave us through his servants the prophets. 11 All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you.

So, you quote Daniel, yet do not quote the reason for Daniels plea. Israel's sin of NOT following G-ds commandments...transgressed the law....worshipped other gods

Exactly what Christianity asks the Jew to do today....abandon the Law...persue other gods...worship a hybrid god-man.

My dear blasater1960 you just don’t get it. And you don’t hear what Daniel is saying. Are you going to do better than those of whom Daniel speaks? Are you that contemptuous of those who went before him? Are you that confident in your own innate ability to do what they could not?

My dear Daniel: This is what happens when the goyim try to tell us what our bible says. The bible says the exact opposite of what you are saying.

Deut 30:11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? 13Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? 14But the word is very near unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

The secret things belong unto the Lord our God; but the things that are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (Deuteronomy 29:28

The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. They stand fast forever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. (Psalm 111:7-8)

Psalm 119 King david spends 176 verses, the longest chapter in all the bible, extoling the virtues of the law....the delight of the law.

And in the messianic era:

And I shall give them one heart, and shall put a new spirit within them. And I shall take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances, and do them. Then they will be My people, and I shall be their God. (Ezekiel 11:19-20)

My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees. (Ezekiel 37:24)

And many peoples shall come, and say: "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths," for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. (Isaiah 2:3)

And even the gentiles will have to be circumsized to enter the sanctuary in the messianic era.

17For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel; 18Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.

20In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD's house shall be like the bowls before the altar. 21Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein:

So, there you have a sample of what is to come.

So, if the law is flawed why is it still in the messianic era?

If the sacrificial system is flawed, why is it returning in the messianic era? Why do the gentiles come to learn the law? the law from Zion?

You think G-d gave us the law and for 1500 years until Jesus let us struggle....just to prove a point...that we cant do it by the law....even though He said we can. We'll from all the scripture above you can see that isnt the case. The law is perfect. For G-d to do what you are saying would make him a duplicitous and perfidious god.

blasater1960 masterfully administered the coup-de-grace thus:
“The law is perfect. For G-d to do what you are saying would make him a duplicitous and perfidious god.”

OK, I confess, not masterful, but at least predictable. It’s the old if-things-aren’t-the-way-we-view-them-God-is-unjust ploy. If God doesn’t play the game the way we want we’ll call Him a cheater. Tried by millions. Succeeded in by none. The Judge will never be subject to your judgments.

But maybe it’s the other way around. Maybe the law is so perfect that it shows all of us to be imperfect ... and in need of someone to do what we could not and cannot?

Yup, keep hammering away with the law as the way of salvation. You will be just as successful as Israel was for the 1500 years from Moses to, so as not to offend, Caiaphas.

EXACTLY! But no maybe about it. That IS the reason for the law - to show the religious they couldn't live up to what constitutes perfection in God's eye. It's impossible, thus, the need for a Savior. Thank you, JESUS!

Pick up any sticks on the Sabbath?
