Well known and admired 108 year old Rabbi reveals the Messiah's name!
Arguing with them is useless, blasater. These people "know" that Yushqa is the messiah. They don't just believe, they "KNOW." And do you know how they know? Because their bible has a "new testament" in it and the "new testament" (and thus their bible) says that Yushqa is the messiah. And that's all there is to it.
As every FReeper knows, I certainly consider Protestants--especially the American Fundamentalist variety--to be far, far better than traditional liturgical chr*stianity. But the Protestants drive me crazy just as they do everyone else by insisting that the Protestant bible is self-evidently "the word of G-d" and needs no canonization. The "bible" says it is the word of G-d and the bible is the word of G-d (and thus cannot be mistaken), so when the bible says it is the word of G-d then that proves that the bible is the word of G-d!
The American-style Protestants I love so much don't realize that only the Torah was written directly by G-d and needed no approval by a human religious authority of some kind. The Na"KH was canonized by the 'Anshey HaKenesset HaGedolah and the "new testament" was canonized by the ancient Catholic/Orthodox church. But Protestants don't recognize this.
All questions of whether the "old testament" really is that chr*stological is "refuted" by quoting the "new testament" (the "word of G-d"). Protestants "know" that Yushqa fulfilled the messianic prophecies because the "new testament" said he did, and the "new testament" is the word of G-d because it's part of the self-authorizing, self-authenticating Protestant bible.
I thought of posting a facepalm to the post to which I was pinged, but it would do no good. Trying to reason with these people is like trying to feed a bale of hay to an ant. It's impossible. These people will believe in Yushqa (because their "bible" tells them to) up until the moment the real Mashiach is revealed. I only hope they acknowledge the truth then, though some of them are so hard-headed that I'm sure some will pull out their KJV and read it to Mashiach to "prove" that he isn't Mashiach!
I've been a Noachide for twenty years and at first I was very optimistic about converting my people. Experience has disabused me. Looks like I'm going to have to be lonely for some time to come.
I feel the same way, and I've been at it for 25+ years.
There is an unquenchable yetzer for idol worship abroad in the world.
Someone with a soul from nogah cannot understand or even beleive the strength of its hold on people.
Based upon the lack of evidence of faith in Jesus (unlike Paul), the fact that the rabbi did not share this information with his closest family members or students, and that we are now three years removed from the opening of the note...I honestly do not see why there is so much interest in this note NOW. What new information has come about that this three year old story now takes on some importance?
1 Corinthians 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet jonas:”
Matthew 24:24 “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
My point is that I cannot say with any true knowledge that this rabbi was visited by Jesus, as I have no evidence of it. If we as Christians then link ourselves to this “sign” and it turns out to not be true then we do harm to the witness of Christ's body...we would have been deceived. I prefer to stick with using God's Word to spread the Truth since it is the only thing I have found so far that is 100% TRUTH.
I hope that the rabbi had turned to Jesus as his Messiah prior to his death...that he had found Him. That would be awesome, but I do not know this to be true so I will leave that in God's hands.
God bless

We are in agreement about the status of the modern church. It's getting very difficult to find a good one anymore. Most of them in my area are liberal leaning, and many suffer from a lack of enthusiasm. I'm wary of larger churches and while that's not to say they are all bad, I find the majority do not preach a gospel that is biblical. Like you said, they are interested in numbers, not substance.
It will come down to, like you said, where the true church will go underground. I think we are starting to see preparations being made for that amongst true God-fearing people. I'm sure you've probably thought about it as a contingency, and so have I. When that happens, there will be no more Calvinists, Wesleyans, Anabaptist, etc. Hopefully we will be gone before that eventuality becomes reality.
It's been great conversing with you my brother. It appears this thread has been a gathering place for like-minded believers (well, almost nearly like-minded :-) ) on FR. I count it a privilege to have gotten to know you as well as others here. God bless you my friend.
How about the 7 million Jews killed during the holocaust, was Satan bound then?
My point about linking ourselves to this news report, and accepting that the rabbi was visited by Jesus without any evidence of a “conversion” to Jesus as Lord was not that it would affect a Christian's faith. But when we (Christians) grab unto something...such as this story...where we have no evidence to support the truth of the claim...as truth and use it to “prove” our faith to the unbeliever we open up our witness to ridicule from the unbeliever.(I believe this is part of the warning in Matthew 24:23-24) The proof of our faith that we present to the unbeliever should be from Scripture and not reports that cannot be validated. That was my point.
This thread is about a THREE YEAR OLD news report that could be looked upon as a news report about a sign...Prophecy! MESSIAH REVEALED! (the title of the post)
Ultimately, I don't think that anybody here can know for sure the truth of the claim from the post...so why “argue” over it?
God bless
As I said, a book that is accepted on its own internal authority (reasoning in a circle) and a Funny Internal Feeling.
No way to fight that!
But as we know God at any time can slow this down as well....he has in the past. But what is so different today is the speed of communication...the media exposure to everything...and the pace which technology moves in and of itself with every business, personal and otherwise transactions and such funneled thru computers.
I recall my first intro to computers....sent the chills down my spine as it was quickly obvious what this machine could mean....further if a government or leader ever took control of it. Anyone, any business, any political machine could be shut down for non-compliance without even entering your home or business!
This year is the first time in my life I told my family that it is possible we're at the end of the line in this era...if it continues to push thru as we see it today.
True enough.
Good points.
Thx.
Excellent points.
He would have known that about the culture, more than anyone.
We dont actually know who appeared to this man.
= = =
I consider that illogical and UNBiblical.
Scripture indicates that NO ONE can call Jesus Lord—certainly not Lord of their lives, except by Holy Spirit.
The Rabbi would certainly NOT have agreed with just any visitation, vision etc. He was in a unique position—like Paul—to have known from Scripture the truth of what Jesus presented of Himself.
I realize there’s a never ending supply of buckets of rocks. However, this bucket is hollow and useless.
Interesting. Thx.
Will have to finish reading this later.
Leaving for another social event shortly.
EXCELLENT POINTS.
THX.
One of the test of the spirits is if a spirit will not state that Jesus is God, then that spirit is not of God.
If it wasn't Jesus, who claimed to be the Messiah when He was on earth and told the Rabbi that He is the Messiah, then what or who was it?
