Priests are a gift from the Heart of Christ, Pope Benedict says
CNA ^ | 6/13/2010

Vatican City, Jun 13, 2010 / 10:58 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.

“The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth,” proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. “One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.”

The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by “the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.”

“Therefore,” he continued, “priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.”

Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the “Act of Love,” was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and “continues to fuel our dialogue with God.”

The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized “the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.”

The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a “day of priestly holiness,” but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.

Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, “one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests.” These were inspired “only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.”

“So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart,” he exclaimed.

The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.

That is some of the most horrid reading comprehension I’ve ever witnessed.

Catholics for the most part don't give a damn about what is said on Protestant and other such goofy theology threads, preferring instead to concentrate on the truth.

A shining statement to God in this muck and mire. Thank you, sir.

The Catholic Church cannot afford for it's members to learn to rightly divide God's Word. There would BE no Catholic Church if God's Word were rightly divided.

The only divisions are in the ruins of the Reformation and the rubble of the Restoration. Catholicism is united in its worship of God. The splitters and the quitters are individualists united only in the quest for big hair and television cameras.

BOATBUMS:
if we are relying on our own works to save us in any way, then we are not really putting our trust in Christ.

That is the chief absurdity of it, because it doesn't follow.

We rely on our works as well as on our faith because Christ told us so. Eph 2:8-10, Mt. 5-7, Mt 25, Rm 2:6-10.

NO! CHRIST did NOT tell us so in any of those Scriptures, at all. Twisting them into a Gordian knot does not make it so.

Yet again we see the Vatican edifice's rabid clique version of RUBBER LOGIC AND RUBBER SET THEORY. Here, they seem to be ABSOLUTELY INSISTING that

MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE THINGS ARE

NOT
.
REALLY
MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.

RIIIIGGGGGHHHHHHT--in the Vatican's special edition of Alice's Rabbit Hole!

HINT:

Paul makes abundantly clear . . . as does even James--that CHRIST ALONE is the source of our FREE GIFT OF SALVATION GRANTED ON OUR ACCEPTANCE OF SAME IN FAITH, TRUSTING GOD MEANT WHAT HE SAID ABOUT IT AND THAT IT IS DEPENDABLE--AS UTTERLY DEPENDABLE AS GOD IS. As Hebrews puts it--then it is ACCOUNTABLE UNTO the individual AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.

FAITH, THE MIND, HEART CONVICTION THAT SOMETHING NOT SEEN BUT HOPED CONFIDENTLY FOR, IS TRUE. BORN OF HOLY SPIRIT GIFTED FAITH WITHIN US.

SAYING

THAT

THAT ALONE

IS EQUAL TO

THAT !!!!!!PLUS!!!!!!
ANYTHING ELSE

IS ABSURDITY TO THE MAX.

That's equal to saying that 1 + 0 & 1 + 4
BOTH EQUAL 1!

The Vatican rubber math book strikes again!

"It is customary, Dr. E., that when one posts another's words, that one acknowledges or pings that individual."

Is this the same Dr. Eisegesis who railed on like a scalded cat for over a week about another Freeper posting some public domain questions without attribution? I guess when one has been selected from the beginning of time for a short cut to salvation irrespective of ones works or deeds, misdeeds towards other Freepers have no consequence.

Thanks; you have made our point for us once again. I will commend you that you do not, as some of your allies do, tend to cheap shots and edited quotes to try to make a point.

This was just posted for me so your line about Quix eliminating Christ made me laugh

169 Salvation comes from God alone

I stopped the quote here, because I wanted to emphasize the fact that the Church says that Salvation comes from God alone. What is the mechanism?

but because we receive the life of faith through the Church, she is our mother: "We believe the Church as the mother of our new birth, and not in the Church as if she were the author of our salvation."

We do not believe that the Church authors our Salvation. It is only God that authors our salvation.

So, therefore, according to these words from the Catechism, the Church is the conduit or the mechanism. God is the author, the moving force and the source of our Salvation. To God be the Glory.

Then what exactly was Jesus speaking of when He so many times linked acts to rewards?

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll,

!!!!DOH!!!!

JESUS, (drum roll) was speaking of . . .

works yielding REWARDS

AS
!!!!OPPOSED TO!!!!

SALVATION!

I realize that seems to cause a lot of rabid clique folks to send smoke out their ears from all the hard work between them trying to understand that. However, a few glasses of ice water upside down on the noggin should help a lot.

We believe the Church as the mother of our new birth

Okay...how can the "Church" be our "mother" when the church is us???

INDEED. AMEN! AMEN!

You may see it that way, but if we are seeking truth and to find how God determines who is our brother.. The goats are not my brethren, the teaching of the universal “brotherhood of man “ is not found in scripture.. That is a rather new non biblical theology

Jesus makes clear that the unsaved are the children of satan and not God.. I am a child of God.. so they are not my brother .

THAT’S

NOT

THE ONLY

THING THE CATECHISM SAYS ABOUT SALVATION

BY A LONG SHOT.

PRETENDING IT IS, IS MORE THAN A LITTLE DISINGENUOUS.

Nonsense. I am sure that the good Dr. E. has, in her haste to debate in a civilized and intellectual manner, utilizing all the manners that her upbringing could possibly have taught her, and demonstrating all of the Christian behaviour that she possesses, simply forgot and overlooked the fact that other human beings exist. I really believe that she will fall all over herself to acknowledge this slipup and post a public apology to show that her posting etiquette is not stereotypical of rabid and virulent anti Christian zealots.

“Nobody in their right mind believes that for one moment. There are not thousands of Protestant denominations because Protestants are in violent agreement on everything or anything. Protestants are Protestants because of their stance AGAINST Catholicism. Protestants don’t spend every waking hour prowling Free Republic searching for threads and opportunities to spread falsehoods about Catholics and Catholicism because of their grace and love. Protestants do not compose multi paragraph retorts into the wee hours out of indifference. It is nothing more than an aggregate demonstration of protestation, hate and false bravado spawned by subliminal self doubt. “

Yes, indeed.
Thank you for the unmitigated audacity of the truth.

As long as you are responding in character to dogmatic differences let's see what kind of multicolored Pavlovian regurgitation the introduction of Justification elicits.

Perhaps Alex Murphy can tell us how many times Paul noted in Hebrews that it was FAITH in God's Word, what God said . . . that was accounted to Abraham et al EVEN IN THE OLD TESTAMENT ERA--AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Even if a Catholic faithfully attends Mass weekly, they probably can't answer. According to the Lectionary reading charts, just a scant 27.6% of the Book of Hebrews is heard during weekly Catholic Mass (and it was only 5.6% before Vatican II). One would have to be a SuperCatholic and attend Mass daily to hear the priest read only 62% of Hebrews, which will take three years before the readings repeat.

Let's hope that all the presumed SuperCatholics here on FR "got cracking" and read the other 38% at home, instead of falling for the false idea that Catholics “get” the whole Bible at Mass.
