Priests are a gift from the Heart of Christ, Pope Benedict says
CNA ^ | 6/13/2010

Vatican City, Jun 13, 2010 / 10:58 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.

“The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth,” proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. “One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.”

The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by “the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.”

“Therefore,” he continued, “priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.”

Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the “Act of Love,” was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and “continues to fuel our dialogue with God.”

The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized “the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.”

The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a “day of priestly holiness,” but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.

Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, “one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests.” These were inspired “only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.”

“So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart,” he exclaimed.

The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.

Praise the Lord, he knows those that are his! I too was lead into the truth by a savior who said he is a “Rewarder of those who diligently seek him.”

Some people out there just need to accept that the Roman Catholic Church does NOT have a corner on the truth nor an exclusive claim to be the “only, true church of Jesus Christ”. The church, the body of Christ, the called-out assembly of true believers is not limited to one organization. ALL born-again Christians are members of this spiritual body. The Word of God, the Scriptures he gave us, are the source of truth, the pillar and foundation of truth.

ABSOLUTELY.

THX THX.

"observer problem" not ignorance

In the age of Internet it should not be difficult to get the Catholic soteriology correctly and from the source.

"The Catechism is a huge pile of tedious text."

Where did you study the Catechism and under whom? If you attempted the 'go it alone' YOPIS method you did on Scripture it is no wonder you got it as wrong as you have Scripture.

I consider it a VERY BRAZEN BALD FACED DENIAL OF REALITY AND DENIAL OF THE TRUTH

TO PRETEND THAT THE VATICAN EDIFICE IS NOT AS FRACTURED AND AS DIVERSE IN VIEWS AS IS THE PRODDY CAMP. WHAT A DECEIVING LIE TO ASSERT ANYTHING ELSE.

The rabid click Roman Catholics et al THEMSELVES HEREON HAVE RELENTLESSLY PROVEN THAT TO AN ABSURDLY REDUNDANT DEGREE.

It is hard to me to imagine how some of them can face the bloke in their mirror after purporting that Proddys are more diverse than the Vatican institution is. What a hideous joke from hell.

The context of Romans 4 is circumcision, that is, the works of Hebrew Law (see verse 10). We all agree, these are not salvific.

Neither of your quotes from John denies salvation by faith and works.

Christ stressed faith .. not works

In some passages, He did, and in some other passages He stressed good works and never mentioned faith once, e.g. Matthew 5-7, and Matthew 25.

PRODDYS DON’T TEND TO BE 2 YEAR OLDS ABOUT THEOLOGY . . .

CONSTANTLY NEEDING TO BE TAUGHT AFRESH

THE LATEST EDITION OF THE VATICAN RUBBER DICTIONARY TO BE SURE THEIR DENIALS, RATIONALIZATIONS, PREVARICATIONS, TWISTING OF SCRIPTURE AND HISTORY IS IN LINE WITH THE LATEST VATICAN HOGWASH.

We tend to take Scripture at face value—GOD MEANT WHAT HE SAID AND SAID WHAT HE MEANT.

I didn’t figure y’all would stand by the Catechism as truth when it got right down to it.

Y’all’s perspective is a farce from the git go every way y’all present it and slice it.

This latest rationalization and double standard it just the latest of a long string of hideous hogwash from hell.

Scripture always confirms scripture

Your first group of quotes tells us that in addition to salvation, there are rewards for particular virtues and they, too, come for our good works as well as for our faith. None of these denies that our salvation or condemnation is likewise judged by our works, as Mt. 25 clearly teaches.

The goats could never do works pleasing to God

The passage in Matthew 25 never says that. It simply compares the works of the goats and the works of the sheep. The goats are condemned and the sheep are saved. So, spin it all you want, the scriptural fact remains that both the sheep and the goats are judged by their works, salvation is the result of that judgment, and salvation happens at the end of the life's journey, not the beginning.

True, Quix.

The Catholic Church cannot afford for it's members to learn to rightly divide God's Word. There would BE no Catholic Church if God's Word were rightly divided. It's that simple.

Funny you mention twisting of scripture. It reminds of this major rubberizing, not just rubberizing but actually adding to the words in Scripture. That’s reminiscent of the Scripture fiddling by Luther.

if we are relying on our own works to save us in any way, then we are not really putting our trust in Christ.

That is the chief absurdity of it, because it doesn't follow.

We rely on our works as well as on our faith because Christ told us so. Eph 2:8-10, Mt. 5-7, Mt 25, Rm 2:6-10.

But the idea that since the works of the law are not salvific we should feel free to violate the Ten Commandments was pretty funny too.

we are loved not for anything we have done or bargained for or worked for or negotiated or were owed. Instead, God "named us" and "called us according to His purpose" and "loved us before we loved Him," "before we could do anything good or evil" -- for His glory and good pleasure and purposeful determination of all that exists

Another stellar Catholic post, doctor. Glory be to God.

"This latest rationalization and double standard it just the latest of a long string of hideous hogwash from hell."

You sure took a lot of words and a rather indirect route to admit that you haven't got a clue what the Catechism does or doesn't say beyond the few cliches you throw out here on a regular basis. That doesn't make you wrong about the Catechism so much as it makes you insufferably ignorant.

Yes. The context is ciscumcision of Abraham. That did not save him, crossing the desert did. Read the Holy Scripture and you will become Catholic.

I'm delighted to see you agreeing with Protestants and reformers who believe works do not save anyone, thereby separating yourself from Rome's errors.

Keep it up.

"reformers who believe works do not save anyone, thereby separating yourself from Rome's errors."

Then what exactly was Jesus speaking of when He so many times linked acts to rewards?

I can understand that coming from someone who doesn’t know Church teaching or believe in the premise of the mass. To Catholics, rejecting worship of Christ is a sin.

I think the problem is I understand it too well

Catholics see salvation as a corporate thing, found in and through the church

protestants see salvation as an individual event that CAUSES membership in the church

There are many definitions of brother. The context I was using it in refers to those in need: who are hungry or thirsty, in need of shelter, need clothing, are sick or in prison. Matthew 25-46 will help you with the context. Pay special attention where the Lord says ”I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me."

You may see it that way, but if we are seeking truth and to find how God determines who is our brother.. The goats are not my brethren, the teaching of the universal "brotherhood of man " is not found in scripture.. That is a rather new non biblical theology

Jesus makes clear that the unsaved are the children of satan and not God.. I am a child of God.. so they are not my brother .

Jhn 13:35 — By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another...

1Th 4:9 — But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

When I love an unsaved man, I do not look at it as a command of God, but a human kindness ...

Face value---YES! Believing what the words of God actually say, NOT what men or religious institutions presume them to say.
