Priests are a gift from the Heart of Christ, Pope Benedict says
CNA ^ | 6/13/2010

Vatican City, Jun 13, 2010 / 10:58 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.

“The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth,” proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. “One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.”

The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by “the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.”

“Therefore,” he continued, “priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.”

Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the “Act of Love,” was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and “continues to fuel our dialogue with God.”

The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized “the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.”

The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a “day of priestly holiness,” but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.

Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, “one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests.” These were inspired “only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.”

“So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart,” he exclaimed.

The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.

"Which word is not understood?"

There is nothing clever or subtle in the actions or motives of the anti-Catholics who lurk here. If you believed your own bovine scat you would be able to simply walk away from Catholic topic threads forever but hatred is addictive.

“The craziest thing to me is the presumption that the voices in their heads telling them how to personally interpret Scripture is the Holy Spirit.”

That's not how it works...Interpretation of scripture is not required by me or the Holy Spirit...

It's clear to me why Catholics have such a huge problem with the Holy Spirit communicating with the individual believer so I'll give you an idea how it works with me...

The scriptures tell us that when we first delve into the Holy words of God, we are as babes...We require milk...The milk is the simplicity of the word...The basics...And one of the basics is grace thru faith without works...

Without the basics, you will never get beyond 1st base in the scripture...You won't even get to 1st base...After I was saved, I spent time in the scriptures and couldn't make hide nor hair of it...Even when others tried to explain it to me...

When I would find scriptures that fit together, something would click...I'd read the same things over and over again and not see anything...

When I would grasp something, all of a sudden a piece of scripture that I read numerous times became different to me...All of a sudden, I would see that verse in a whole new light...

It's like going to school...You have to make it to first grade before you can move on to the second grade...When you start getting weaned off the milk, God will start sharing some meat with you...

And that is the work of the Holy Spirit...The Holy Spirit will open the scriptures for you...He will show you the scriptures that fit together...

If we chose not to believe, or we change the scripture, God will stop us dead in our tracks...

We will then have to turn to a religious tradition or a new revelation of scripture that takes the place of what we can't get out of the scriptures...

Another way the Holy Spirit works with and in me is while I'm driving down the road...I can not count the times where I checked my mirrors and started to pull into the other lane when I have heard from somewhere deep inside of me the word 'NO'...I would jerk the wheel back as a car zoomed by me in the lane I was about to cut into...Praise God for that...

The Holy Spirit may work other ways within Christians but those are a couple of my many experiences...

2. Our salvation is not secure till we die and are judged on the entirety of our works (for example, a “goat” might repent, as you yourself note, or a “sheep” may fall into sin.

I agree you can find that in the scriptures...But it does not apply to Christians...We as Christians have been judged already and have been found to be just...

We have eternal life RIGHT NOW and we shall NOT fall into condemnation...

AMEN!!!

Rome conspires to erase all Christian particularism, making everything equally relative and therefore nothing definite nor true.

Scripture tells us our salvation is neither relative, haphazard nor uncertain...

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." -- 1 Corinthians 1:18

"Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." -- Romans 3:24-28

By whose righteousness are men saved? Not by their own righteousness, but by the righteousness of Christ mercifully imputed to them. Since this is predicated on God's will, ordained from before the foundation of the world, we can be assured of His faithfulness to do what we cannot.

"Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." -- 1 Thess. 5:24

Why do you automatically reject that the Holy Spirit may move some to seek the council of the Catholic Church?

Amen, Dr.!

"Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him; Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over Him, for in that He died, HE DIED UNTO SIN ONCE: but in that He liveth he liveth unto God, likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be DEAD INDEED UNTO SIN, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:8-11).

We are DEAD TO SIN because Christ DIED FOR SIN and we are PART OF CHRIST'S BODY.

If every time we sin we fear separation from God, we are saying the Death of Jesus Christ was NOT sufficient and it becomes necessary for Him to die over and over again each and every time there is sin.

The Word of God has something to say about that:

"By the which will we ARE sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL...But his man, after he had offered ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS , sat down on the right hand of God...for by ONE OFFERING HE hath perfected FOREVER them that are sanctified". (Hebrews 10:10,12,14).>

1. We are judged by ou.. works.

The judgment of works is a judgment of rewards..

If you could work your way into heaven then Christ died in vain .

If one is trying to work their way into heaven than their "works " are not done for the glory of God..but for the salvation of themselves... God will not be mocked....

Romans 4: 4Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness
. 6Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, 7Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
8Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Catholic theology makes God mans debtor.. HE OWES YOU SALVATION ..LOOK AT ALL YOU HAVE DONE

To this Christ says "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

2. Our salvation is not secure till we die and are judged on the entirety of our works (for example, a “goat” might repent, as you yourself note, or a “sheep” may fall into sin.

The goats were always goats.. the sheep were always sheep ..The work the goats did were filthy bloody menstruation clothes to a Holy God.. Because they were not work ordained by Him.. they were works of the natural man seeking his own ends..and not the glory of God .. The Sheep did the good works BECAUSE they were His sheep..they did not do them to BECOME sheep.. They did the works ordained by God for them ...not self works seeking God but works to glorify Him ...Look at what they say to Christ..

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 4

They were not seeking Christ or His approval or His reward for their work.. They were just being sheep

The sheep will always sin.. But praise God they have an advocate with the Father that showers them with His grace and has already washed them clean as snow,

The goats on the other hand try to wash themselves clean but can never do it..

But the scripture does not agree with that sophistry. The works that are not salvific that the scripture gives us examples of are works done under the Hebrew or any other law (Rm 3:28), or works done in order to boast (Eph. 2:9), or pharisaic works of self-aggrandizing hypocrisy (Mt 23:13, many similar). A desire for salvation is nowhere listed as wrong motivation

You make God your debtor,.He OWES MEN BIG TIME for all the good works THEY have done..

"1st John5:13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

1Jo 5:20 — And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, [even] in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Present tense.. the saved already have eternal life

A belief that one must add his own works to the work of Christ makes the cross of no effect..

Awww lol. Let the pup tent revival begin sister. Buy the sweet elixir of slicksters and “reach behind your tv set” revival....be your deep spiritual guide. Funny and sad.

Just quoting scripture to ya

Isa 64:6 — But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Filthy ..... `iddah

`1) menstruation a) filthy rag, stained garment (fig. of best deeds of guilty people)

A woman's period made her UNCLEAN in Jewish law... so her "rags " would be untouchable by her husband or he too would be unclean..

So our own works are untouchable and dirty (sin) to God

Only those works He ordains in the saved please Him

I'm beginning to believe that Rome was built on Christ hanging on the Cross. Dying over and over and over. To satisfy the fleshly needs of a puffed up vain people.

The TOMB IS EMPTY. Take Him off the Cross. It Is Done. He has risen. Think on things in Heaven. Not on this earth. Where Christ is sitting on the right hand of God.

Are there some who are really concinced of this?

" . . . Whether the number is 33,000 or 3,300 differing denominations of protestantism the one and only unifying characteristic is their protestation of Catholicism."

To be convonced of this, to begin with, one must be bound in chains to the false notion that there are two and only two partitions of Christendom: Catholicism and Protestantism.

One must be oblivious to the historical truth that there have always been Christians who were never Catholic in the Vatican sense, nor Protestant in the Geneva sense.

And to continue in that kind of oblivion, one must believe that there is no history outside of that penned by Vatican sense Catholic authors.

John 5:28-29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Matthew 6:14-15 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

WELL DONE.

WELL DONE!

Folks just don’t ‘get it,’ for some reason.

God said what He meant and meant what He said. He used the most offensive example He could have used for the people and culture who had any awareness of His OT Word.

He MEANT for us to REALIZE TO THAT EXTENT WHAT ANY AND EVERY SIN coated us in from HIS PERFECTION PERSPECTIVE.

And that included all our filthy ragged works of righteousness—from the stand point of earning the least shred of Salvation—IMPOSSIBLE, IN GOD’S EYES. ONLY HIS SINLESS SON COULD DO THAT; DID DO THAT.

Covered in Christ’s redeeming Blood, with Christ-like motives, good works in His strength under Holy Spirit’s leading earn Heavenly rewards—NOT SALVATION.
