.- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peters Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.
The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth, proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.
The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.
Therefore, he continued, priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.
Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the Act of Love, was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and continues to fuel our dialogue with God.
The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.
The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a day of priestly holiness, but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.
Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests. These were inspired only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.
So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart, he exclaimed.
The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.
Your somewhat dictatorial suggestion is noted, but I’ll respond to whatever part of whatever post I choose.
I'll leave talking to oneself to you.
Yes, you inserted your own words into Scripture just as Luther did. He had his reasons, you had yours. Either way, thats rubberizing.
AS I NOTED AT THE TIME,
You didn't note it at the time. It wasn't until I asked for clarification. The Bible versions I have use the same brackets you did, so I had to ask.
Youre a mind reader now? I know no such thing. Youve been corrected many times through the years on the misrepresentations of Catholic teachings in your posts.
Any counselor knows the the word BUT nullifies everything said before it
What kind of counselor is that the kind that hasnt studied grammar? The word but is used as a grammatical conjunction. It nullifies nothing.
And this quote verifies what I said.. the church is the source of salvation to Catholics
It verifies no such thing. As a matter of fact, it contradicts what you claimed. It says salvation comes from God alone. Christ is the head of the Church and the Church is his Body. The Church is the pillar and bulwark of the truth, and helps bring life to our faith as teacher of those truths.
Could you show me the magistrums official commentary on those scriptures? I believe you are misreading them
Ive never heard of a magistrum. In any case, I was just quoting Scripture, so it isnt a misreading. Here again is the quote I posted: I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." Thats a direct quote from Jesus. Disregard His words at your own peril.
Well at least I am not calling a child of satan my brother and helping him so I GET INTO HEAVEN.. that is just a bit of self serving works..
Maybe you need to address that to Jesus since it was his quote. I dont think He automatically considers those in need, i.e. the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless, the naked, the sick, and those in prison to be children of satan. Only a gross twisting on Scripture could arrive at that conclusion.
The Church is the pillar and bulwark of the truth, and she can be our mother in the sense that she teaches that truth and nurtures our understanding.
I didnt say it was the only thing. Claiming Im pretending is mind reading and inventing controversy where there is none. I provided a link to the Catechism. Its there for all to read.
“The period from Passover to Shavuot is a time of great anticipation. We count each of the days from the second day of Passover to the day before Shavuot, 49 days or 7 full weeks, hence the name of the festival. See The Counting of the Omer. Shavuot is also sometimes known as Pentecost, because it falls on the 50th day. The counting reminds us of the important connection between Passover and Shavuot: Passover freed us physically from bondage, but the giving of the Torah on Shavuot redeemed us spiritually from our bondage to idolatry and immorality.

Celebrating the giving of Torah is a tradition not given in the Law.
Deuterocanonical? That's good PR spin but it cant change the apocrypha into part of “all Scripture”.
I guess I'll have to format them differently or use "{}" to signify my own interpretation.
I'm CERTAIN y'all were 100% convinced that Quix thought he was AUTHORING ORIGINAL SCRIPTURE within the "[]" brackets! /SARCASM TO THE MAX.

Romans 10:20 19 But I say: Hath not Israel known? First, Moses saith: I will provoke you to jealousy by that which is not a nation; by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Isaias is bold, and saith: I was found by them that did not seek me: I appeared openly to them that asked not after me.
Yes, these, too. The sacraments save because they are visible vehicles of invisible grace, voluntarily received. The discipline surrounding the sacraments -- the Laws of the Church --do not save. They tell you when you endanger your soul by straying too far from the community of Christian faith; they are useful but not salvific. Circumcision was useful as well, by the way.
Infant baptism is not a discipline of the Church, strictly speaking (people get baptized when they or their sponsors are ready for the committment), but other things that you mentioned are.
Roman Catholism is Judaism redux
Roman Catholism is Judaism fulfilled. We are the Heavenly Jerusalem today. Our priests are true priests in the order of Melchisedek. We build the true temple after the Mosaic model, and we could do it because grace was given us.
When one says "You are saved by grace, BUT..."
The Church does not say any "but". We are saved by grace alone, period. Other things, faith and works, are the consequence of it (Eth 2:8-10). It is the Protestant heresy to add "sola fide" to the divinelty proclaimed gospel of "sole gracia", and twist St. Paul's words in the process.
36 ...patience is necessary for you; that, doing the will of God, you may receive the promise. 37 For yet a little and a very little while, and he that is to come, will come, and will not delay. 38 But my just man liveth by faith; but if he withdraw himself, he shall not please my soul. 39 But we are not the children of withdrawing unto perdition, but of faith to the saving of the soul. (Heb. 10)
It then continues into the entire chapter on faith, where glorious works of abraham and others are listed, all done by faith:
By faith he that is called Abraham, obeyed to go out into a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he abode in the land, dwelling in cottages, with Isaac and Jacob, the co-heirs of the same promise. 10 For he looked for a city that hath foundations; whose builder and maker is God. (Heb 11)
I was referring to that particular passage. Note that circumcision is not mentioned, but works worked by faith onto eventual salvation are listed, one by one, through the entire salvation history of the Jews.
Note also that salvation is hoped for in the future, -- the righteous Jews had to wait millenia for it (Heb 11:29) -- rather than obained in the believer's lifetime.
Read the Holy Scripture and it will reveal to you the truths of the Holy Catholic Church, and your salvation, too, will be within grasp.
Amplifying the Word? "'s back" is not, self-evidently, in the original.
St. Paul did, Eph. 2:8-10. It is a canonical book of the Cathlic Chruch, so we read it and follow it, as we follow Christ.
Why would you want to frustrate or set-aside the grace of God, anyway?
God forbid. It is by grace that we are saved. You, however, who chop off good works, a necessary divinely ordained part of grace, set aside a part of it.
My point was the ten commandments WERE part of the Hebrew Law and by YOUR reasoning, were not salvific so it followed they were not necessary for salvation
Correct, but the jump of illogic followed, because you absurdly concluded that we can violate them.
Whe I am perhaps too hostile to the Protestnt pastors, calling them liars, that is the reason. Protestantism is not just one possible interpretation among several, it is a system of deception designed by power mongers for self-aggrandizement. Innocent people are caught in it. Those pastors went to seminaries; they know the falsehood of their preaching, and if they don't, they havent read the Bible with an honest eye in their life.
He most certainly did, that's why I am Catholic. Glory be to God.
They have to interpret your catechism for you too???
This understanding of Scripture is why Born Again Christians are on one side of the Cross and RC's are on the other side.
The RCC teaches that there is a "and", "but", or "maybe" at the end of that statement. Unfortunately, until they realize "it is finished" they will never know the blessed assurance of being in Jesus' hand and will look to other sources to provide that comfort, their church, Mary, works, self abuse, mysticism.
Thanks for this, Quix.
