(Well; it’s REALLY on a metal plaque on that stone. Makes it easier to CHANGE it some day...)

If it had been ingraved in stone it could be chiseled out just like the words “Savage indians” on the monument in the Santa Fe Square, but it would leave a tale tail spot.;-)

The obelisk was erected in 1868. Each side has an inscription. One sides inscription read: "To the heroes who have fallen in various battles with savage Indians in the Territory of New Mexico." but a word was removed so it now reads: "To the heroes who have fallen in various battles with Indians in the Territory of New Mexico."
