Only members of my immediate family get to call me that.
So maybe we're all just trying to act like family?
Dysfunctional family?
I’ve got enough problems of my own, I’m not going to dictate how others behave, or condemn them for their sin. The Lord is Judge, and He’s got all the facts.
If someone is ACTING in a way that indicates that Jesus is in fact NOT their Lord, then though they say they’re “saved,” they indeed may not be. While “a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ,” it’s also true that such “faith” is no good “if someone says he has faith but does not have works.” The “works” don’t save, but do reveal a person’s “faith.”
That said, we should keep in mind that the only humans in heaven will be those who have sinned, and consequently those who have been saved by grace.
The following passage of Scripture is especially helpful. It shows that on one hand those who are given into their sin will not inherit the kingdom of God. On the other hand, it shows that these people are not beyond His mighty arm to save:
“Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”
Let me conclude by saying that Orthodoxy is of much value. Perhaps even more valuable is Orthopraxy — to use your phrase: “living the faith.”
(You bolded “use contraceptives.” This is probably not the place to argue about the contraceptive mentality behind how NFP is usually practiced.)
I've never heard anyone "sell" NFP w/o taking pains to talk about the contraceptive mentality and its sinfulness.
Where can I go to find out about the prevalence of that attitude among Catholic NFP users?
You will have a special place in heaven, JA. If I make it there, I’ll be the guy in the very back, having only made it in by the grace of God.
These relationships, are they like what you’d expect in a trailer park?
The “trailer park” people of which you are picturing, live in the same immoral lives as the Mercedes / BMW, face lift, boobjob, want to be 20 year old movie stars forever, moneyed crowd. The only difference is the trailer park types, the poorer people, are in the RAW, while the rich have money to cover their immoral lives.
I addressed your questions from comment #99 in my comment #102. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on what I wrote.
Make no mistake, Britney Spears will always live in a trailer park no matter her physical location.
I really don’t want to get in an argument about NFP, and this really isn’t the place to discuss it. It’s just that, as practiced, NFP is usually employed to avoid becoming pregnant. Pope Pius XII affirmed that such use is “gravely sinful,” except under certain conditions. But when used, it is to be aware of when a woman is in her fertile period, and typically to abstain during that period. The attitude behind abstaining during that time is contra-ceptive, as a form of birth control.
It might be fun to start a new discussion on NFP. Here it’d be another rabbit trail ...
It's my job as a Catholic who knows his faith, to teach others how they should live. Starting with my family. Most other people will learn by my example, but nevertheless, I have an obligation to teach everyone that God puts in my path.
Protestants are always searching for truth, therefore, I can understand why you would "not want to dictate to others".
As for the rest, it's just your one man opinion. I don't deal in opinions with Protestants, there's gazillion opinions. I will though answer anything that you want to know about Catholicisms doctrines, absolute truths.
Come on. I gave you a reasonable reply, and spent some time writing it, and you respond by simply dismissing it?
Because I’m a “Protestant,” you simply disregard anything I say, even if it’s supported with Scripture? Seriously? You reject fellowship with other Christ-followers because they don’t go to your church? Really?
Sounds like you’re unable to respond reasonably, and so you engage in an ad hominem against me. That’s the way it looks.
LOL! You know how they say our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit? Well, mine is a mud hut! ;-D I am nobody, just very much in love with Almighty God.
Attributing motives to other posters is against the rules, as you have been reminded above.
And there is no way to hold any discussion with a protestant who will not follow the rules. Not following the rules is trollish behavior.
Nonsense. You are a shining paragon if your posts on FR have any indication of the matter.
If God has a whole bunch of mercy on me, I’ll be the guy in the last row in the corner.
Judith — I did no such thing. Leoni said, “I don’t deal in opinions with Protestants,” and I simply questioned that specific sentiment.
Stop trying to muzzle me, Judith. Instead, feel free to join the conversation. If you look through my comments, you’ll see that I’m not a troll, but trying to have a reasonable discussion. The amount of work I’ve put into responding to questions shows that I’m no troll, as does the fact that I’ve been a FReeper for over a dozen years.
I you want to see a troll, look at those who are cynically attacking me in this discussion, dismissing what I’ve said without engaging in sincere dialog.
Please show any evidence for an intention to "muzzle" you.
Please show any evidence that you have been attacked, or that anyone has failed to engage in sincere dialog.
And yes, I have read and understood the entire thread.
To All:
Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
You can justify it in the end.
There won’t be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day,
On the bloody morning after....
One tin soldier rides away.
Now the valley cried with anger,
“Mount your horses! Draw your sword!”
And they killed the mountain-people,
So they won their just reward.
Now they stood beside the treasure,
On the mountain, dark and red.
Turned the stone and looked beneath it...
“Peace on Earth” was all it said.
Um. Show where I’ve been attacked? I’ve been called “stupid, insufferable, idiotic, insular, unlearned, self righteous, delusional, and pompous.” Would you not consider that a direct attack against my character?
I’ve been told that I have no means of having my sins forgiven, and that the Holy Ghost will not dwell within my soul. I’ve falsely been accused of holding heretical doctrines (binarist, for example).
I’ve been ridiculed for suggesting that the image in comment #63 is immodest, and inappropriate for this discussion.
I’m told that I’m ignorant and love my sin, and attend a “false church.”
As far as someone failing to engage in sincere dialog, look at my comment #102, which was a sincere reply to Leoni’s comment #99. His response? Dismissing me because I’m a “Protestant.” He’s not even TRYING to engage what I’ve written.
And you’re trying to muzzle me by reporting me to the Religion Moderator as a “troll,” as though I’m the bad guy and those attacking me are angels.
Does that help you see where I’m coming from?
