Obviously the subject of religion is particularly sensitive. Offended posters tend to pick at a scab misdirecting the discussion from the issues at hand to ad hominenons back and forth. The thread can easily descend into a flame war or childish bickering forcing the mods to pull it or lock it.
To salvage this discussion, I chose to pull every reference to the offensive term.
Dr. Eckleburg, never accuse another Freeper or group of Freepers of being jihadist. There are many military families on Free Republic and that characterization is inflammatory per se.
Now, everyone, stop picking at the scab.
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

I’m a Catholic FReeper. I AM the Catholic Church.
If a FReeper had stated that the American government were jihadists, is that not to include me? I am the American Govenment.
If it does not include the Catholic FReepers, who is it pointed at? I think it’s an important point that the Catholic FReepers should know for future discussion.

I’ve been playing Chinese chess at the college with a character of a brilliant lad while FREEPING this thread.
The result has been that I’ve kind of jumped around and hit and missed the thread train. I’ll try and get back on track and avoid picking scabs.
It does appear that there’s a concerted, if not conscious rabid clique effort to get the thread locked, pulled, transferred to the smokey back room or some such
. . . evidently largely because they have failed to make a very good showing in the contest of ideas.
Your wisdom in all this cat herding is wonderful.
