7 When you pray, dont babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Dont be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, --New Living Translation 7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.] 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9Pray, therefore, like this: 15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. --Amplified Pray with Simplicity 5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? 6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. 7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: 16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well. |

Ironically, I'm finally getting around to reading True Devotion and doing the 30 day consecration. A friend said to expect demonic attacks to try to derail it. And I log on to FR and get pinged to this thread ;-)
I agree.
How many people have left FR because of these threads?
What is the “fruit” of these threads?
Because I can tell you, I have asked non-Catholics to read these and they are taken aback. Christians don’t act this way. They spread the Good News, without “Slash and Burn Evangelicalism”.
How much income is lost to FR because of the nastiness of these? People who are looking for good Conservative values yet find vile Anti-whatever threads on the Religion Forums. If the Anti-Catholics think that every non-Catholic comes on this and thinks they are clever, they are mistaken.
Personally, I think the Religion Forum should be stopped for a while and see how much we really need it. We should concentrate on our common ground instead of what divides us.
AMEN! AMEN!
I am confused as to why these posts have been removed.
When certain posts (including all reference to them) are removed, what it actually does is “sanitize” the situation and allow people to pretend it never happened.
If certain slurs were routinely directed at social conservatives in other FR forums, the consequences would be severe. Why is it swept away on the Religion Forum as if it never happened?
INDEED.
When . . . uhhhh . .
so motivated . . .
do most babies want more than Mommy’s . . . uhhhh
nurturance?
The traditional Protestants are often disgusted and embarrassed by what is on these threads. I am thankful that Catholics are wise enough to distinguish between the two groups.
Then perhaps you would be willing to comment on the pictures I posted in 975.
I know of several who have left or who will no longer participate. My often ridiculed Opus was in solidarity with some former FReepers. I do love FR, but there need to be better standards on the RF than simply "thin-skinned" posters are the disruptors on open threads." Maybe there should be no open threads.
Another comment: this morning I went to the website of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, and found a lot of the very same phrases, scriptures, and ideas that are used to rebut Catholic precepts here on FR are THERE. It certainly appears that while not giving attribution to the unacceptable source, the unacceptable source is being used.
Maybe that's why we see the same arguments over and over and over again, the same statements, the same slurs. As an example, the arguments about Babylon/Rome and the woman on the beast.
Personally, I would have no problem if the posts were removed and the poster given a “time out”.
These threads escalate.
I understand why you pulled my posts along with the offensive one, and I agree.
However, how on earth can you continue to do this? My heart goes out to you, and you are in my prayers, because I do think whoever you are, you are doing the best anyone can at this very distasteful task.
Yeah, at some point you’d think it would be more prudent to move the thread to the Smokey Back Room, lock it, or delete the entire thread altogether.
However, pulling the posts that simply point out posts that are “making it personal” or other inflammatory posts seems to be a bit over the top. The offenders are obvious. Why cover for them by pulling the posts that simply request some prudent moderation be employed?
Odd. You are in full agreement with He-Who-Cannot-Be-Named.
The sarcasm is NOTHING
compared to the
IDOLATRY AND BLASPHEMY
that stands brazenly
as though righteous and wonderful.
Obviously the subject of religion is particularly sensitive. Offended posters tend to pick at a scab misdirecting the discussion from the issues at hand to ad hominenons back and forth. The thread can easily descend into a flame war or childish bickering forcing the mods to pull it or lock it.
To salvage this discussion, I chose to pull every reference to the offensive term.
Dr. Eckleburg, never accuse another Freeper or group of Freepers of being jihadist. There are many military families on Free Republic and that characterization is inflammatory per se.
Now, everyone, stop picking at the scab.
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
Of course it is, bigots aren't known for original thought, they simply copy and paste what bigots before them have come up with.

Amazing!
It’s like my lib SIL who told my husband and myself that she finds it silly that conservatives say that the MSM is leftist when they all have ombudsmen who check everything.
My husband looked at her and said, “Does that help when the Ombudsman is also a leftist? How does he know what is acceptable to the right? Even if he tries, his basic ideas are left.”
Same thing here.
Thank you.
