GIVE IT ALL TO . . . ? . . . .

--A Research Thread--

. . .

.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

--New Living Translation

7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.]

8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9Pray, therefore, like this:

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
10Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ([e]left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors.
13And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [g]reckless and willful sins, [h]leaving them, letting them go, and [i]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

--Amplified

Pray with Simplicity

5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.

16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well.
--THE MESSAGE

Mark Kirby:

O Mother of Good Counsel,
Mother of Perpetual Help,
I turn with confidence to thy maternal Heart,
and I renew my total and irrevocable consecration to thee.

I am all thine, Most Holy Mary,
and all that I have is thine.
I give thee my past with its burdens.
I give thee this present moment with its anxieties and fears.
I give thee my future and all that it holds.

There is no part of my life that is not open to thee,
no place so secret, or so darkened by sin
that thy presence and thy influence
are not wholly and ardently desired there.

I want to be completely transparent with thee,
utterly simple, guileless, and childlike.
Thou knowest, O Mother,
all my preoccupations,
all my intentions,
and all those recommended to my prayer.
Take them, I beseech thee, to thy Immaculate Heart
and, as my Advocate, my all-powerful intercessor, and my Mediatrix,
present them to thy Son.
Seeing them presented by thee
and held in thy maternal Heart,
there is nothing that He will not do
to give to each intention the one response
worthy of the infinite mercy and love of His Sacred Heart.

Praying in this way, I can be at rest,
for thou art my Mother,
and all that I entrust to thee will be,
I am sure,
received, and considered, and cared for
with a Mother's love.
Amen.

It's pretty safe to say that the words coming from Padre Pio during his earthly existence were inspired by the Holy Spirit, and should be paid close attention to.
"A few weeks later, on September 20, 1918, Padre Pio was praying in the choir loft in the Church of Our Lady of Grace, when the same Being who appeared to him on August 5, appeared again. It was the wounded Christ. When the ecstasy ended, Padre Pio had received the Visible Stigmata, the five wounds of Christ, which would stay with him for his remaining 50 years" --St. Padre Pio

So, is the Church wrong?

Yes. Horribly so.

Should we call priests “Father”?

No. In fact, y'all shouldn't even have priests.

Be imitators of him? But he calls himself Father Paul!

He did not call himself "Father Paul." He said he had fathered spiritual offspring.

His son? Is this just Saint Paul being difficult to understand? [...] Seems pretty clear he is referring to himself as a FATHER.

He certainly is alluding to a spiritual progeny, but that is a very far cry from accepting an honorary title which Christ Himself spoke against.

In fact, the whole of 1 Cor 4 speaks against what you have proposed, and Paul states exactly that what he is speaking of about himself is figurative:

1Co 4:6 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.

What he is speaking of does hearken back to Jesus words in Matt 23... He (Paul) says TO imitate himself because he does walk the walk (1 Cor 4:10-16), as opposed to the Pharisees in Matt 23:3-8.

But in that, he is showing himself to be the polar opposite of those Pharisees, and would certainly oppose being called "Rabbi" or "Father," as Matt 23 declares unquestionably.

To prove your point, you would have to find someone actually calling him "Father Paul," which you will not be able to do, as it is against the very words of Christ.

It is foolhardy to try to bend a figurative treatise against the declared word of Christ.

The point of the supper is to remember Christ.

Christ was resurrected and ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father.

Now, using scripture, please explain how, instead of being risen and ascended, he is still on Earth. Also explain how the Bible spends a whole book on what is going to happen when He is again on Earth.

Of course, if you mean the Holy Spirit, I completely understand.

It sure does make a church acceptable to a pagan Roman Empire with it's multiple gods and goddesses. Just as praying to saints who "can hear your prayers and help you" is really just a step below all the minor gods and goddesses that pagans worshiped. It's a clever adaptation to a sometimes very hostile environment, but it is wrong and really is the product of a lack of faith.

BRAVO! In fact, one need only study the Babylonian Mystery Religion to see where all such nonsense has it's root (including the mother goddess, "Queen of Heaven").

Hmmm. They say leftism and “compassionate conservatism” are good intentions, though I have no doubt that those fostering them know this isn’t true.

No Christian would have agreed with that unholy marriage no matter what the cost or the imagined benefit. It had to have been performed by non-Christians i.e. sons of Satan.

Also, now that those times have passed, why is the edifice still around? If it were Christian, it would have immediately disbanded itself.

Jesus Himself invented sola scriptura when He proclaimed, “It is written”. It was His appeal to written scripture which flummoxed the authorities of the day, just as it does now.

And no doubt they were highly offended at His perfect disregard of their !!!TRADITIONS!!! (fx credz to Quix).

Yeah. You are completely correct.

An honest Biblical position can not be derived from what the Bible *doesn’t* say.

Did you know that Jesus and the Disciples supported their work by racing mud trucks for a living? If it hadn't been for the Chevy endorsements, contracts, and advertising, the Good News never would have seen the light of day.

Thank God for Chevrolet. /sarc

they practiced syncretism, worship your idols, only, call them by our gods' names, so therefore Venus is Mary, Zeus is God, etc.

Therein lies Roman Ecumenism.

God made clear that we are not to perform sorcery or cast magic spells. This “Sacrament” is a lot like the above and nothing like what we are called to do in Scripture.

Doesn’t matter how many sin-filled, fallen men can be quoted saying it is from God. If it conflicts with the Word than it conflicts with Him. Remember, He *is* the Word.

Or is John considered as “insane” as Paul is by those who follow and obey Rome? I can’t remember.

Incidentally, what is that a picture of in your post? Is that one of those pieces of dead people the Romeians ascribe magical powers to?
