GIVE IT ALL TO . . . ? . . . .

--A Research Thread--

. . .

.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

--New Living Translation

7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.]

8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9Pray, therefore, like this:

Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
10Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven ([e]left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have [f]given up resentment against) our debtors.
13And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [g]reckless and willful sins, [h]leaving them, letting them go, and [i]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.

--Amplified

Pray with Simplicity

5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat?

6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.

7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

14-15"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part.

16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well.
--THE MESSAGE

Mark Kirby:

O Mother of Good Counsel,
Mother of Perpetual Help,
I turn with confidence to thy maternal Heart,
and I renew my total and irrevocable consecration to thee.

I am all thine, Most Holy Mary,
and all that I have is thine.
I give thee my past with its burdens.
I give thee this present moment with its anxieties and fears.
I give thee my future and all that it holds.

There is no part of my life that is not open to thee,
no place so secret, or so darkened by sin
that thy presence and thy influence
are not wholly and ardently desired there.

I want to be completely transparent with thee,
utterly simple, guileless, and childlike.
Thou knowest, O Mother,
all my preoccupations,
all my intentions,
and all those recommended to my prayer.
Take them, I beseech thee, to thy Immaculate Heart
and, as my Advocate, my all-powerful intercessor, and my Mediatrix,
present them to thy Son.
Seeing them presented by thee
and held in thy maternal Heart,
there is nothing that He will not do
to give to each intention the one response
worthy of the infinite mercy and love of His Sacred Heart.

Praying in this way, I can be at rest,
for thou art my Mother,
and all that I entrust to thee will be,
I am sure,
received, and considered, and cared for
with a Mother's love.
Amen.

Do Roman Catholic apologists even read these prayers which they high-five with such peculiar glee?

This prayer to Mary is idolatrous. It tells the person to take their prayers TO MARY who will THEN take those prayers to Jesus.

Why? Because Jesus loves Mary MORE and He'll listen to HER before He'd listen to a believer.

This is the heart of the papist error which teaches that Mary is closer and more beloved than all those who believe in His name as God and Savior.

And that is a lie.

"While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

Then one said unto him, Behold, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother." -- Matthew 12:46-50

Jesus tells us to pray to Him alone. Mary's prayers carry no more weight nor import than any Christian's prayers. Further, Mary has no reason to pray TO God anymore for anything since we assume she is WITH God, face-to-face.

Wake up, RCs. You're missing the point of Christianity. Christ alone saves the sinner. There is only ONE who deserves our prayers.

"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name..." -- Matthew 6:9

Worse, Roman Catholic apologists who pray to Mary somehow think they are pleasing God when, in fact, as Scripture tells us, they are clearly and willfully disobeying God, at their peril.

"But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

For every man shall bear his own burden.

Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." -- Galations 6:4-8

I take umbrage in Quix's refusal to refer to the man whose words he has quoted to create this post, incorrectly, for the express purpose of being disrespectful to the Roman Catholic Church.

The priest's name he has quoted is Father Mark Kirby, or Father Mark.

Why do you think Mary is in competition with Jesus?

Was she in competition with Jesus when she said, "Let it be done unto me according to thy word"?

Was she in competition with Jesus when she said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God, my savior"?

Was she in competition with Jesus when she said, "Do whatever he tells you"?

This is NOT "hate" for Father Flapdoodle nor for any Roman Catholic. This is love of the truth and a desire for that truth to be spoken and heard and understood.

Read your Bible, and you, too, can know the truth, God willing.

any thing or any one that we love equal to or more than God - if even for a moment - is an idol to us. That would include our children, spouse, ideas, church, possessions, people and so on. It also includes self.

AMEN!

Roman Catholic apologists have put her in competition with Christ by offering some prayers to Christ and some prayers to Mary.

Idolatry.

Nothing wrong with asking out Blessed Mother to intercede for us.

Well, she isn't our blessed mother to begin with. She's only the mother to her own children. And while she is blessed, we all are in Christ.

The other thing is, way too many of the prayers to Mary and the saints are prayers TO them asking them FOR things. It's not just a matter of asking her to intercede for us.

Besides, in light of Jesus clear teaching that we are to pray to the Father, what's the point in praying to anyone else? What can they do for us that God Himself can't do for us?

Not to mention that since they have died in their mortal bodies, they are dead to us and no longer accessible to us.

If it were intended that we pray to people who have died in their physical bodies, why didn't Jesus teach on it? Or Peter? Or any of the other apostles?

If she said”Do whatever he tells you”, then why don’t you? Jesus taught the disciples how to pray in the Lord’s prayer, and there’s no praying to Mary, saints, angels, dead people or anyone else but God the Father, mentioned.

I gather that your focus is NOT per Mark Kirby's prayer focus.

Can I infer that your focus is on CHRIST ALONE?

EXCELLENT, LIFE-GIVING, PRICELESS SCRIPTURES, WORDS OF GOD, DEAR SISTER.

. . . to ALL--WHO HEED THEM.

Your Scriptures above brought an added layer of Holy Spirit enlightenment to me . . .

For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother." -- Matthew 12:46-50

CHRIST, in the above verse, was making a MUCH LARGER statement than I've given credit to, before.

He also emphasized DOING THE WILL OF GOD elsewhere.

In that culture of that era . . . such a statement would have come across as HORRIFIC. The Jewish culture of that era was a lot like the Chinese culture in terms of parents, ancestors. Parents and ancestors and family had an almost god-like status. They were to be deferred to wholesale, across the board. Age, parental status, family were seen as wisdom AND RIGHT almost regardless.

Christ is clearly here saying--essentially, imho--NOT SO FAST, GROUP. THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS NOT BUSINESS AS USUAL ON SUCH SCORES. Yeah, I have an earthly blood family of parents and siblings. However, compared to

THOSE WHO
DO
THE WILL
OF MY FATHER,

THEY ARE NOTHING
TO ME!
THOSE
WHO DO
THE WILL OF MY FATHER IN HEAVEN
ARE EQUAL
TO MY MOTHER, FATHER, BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

My earthly blood family has
NO MORE CLAIM
ON ME
THAN ANYONE ELSE
WHO DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER.

In another place, he notes that unless we are willing to 'hate' [comparatively] our parents and family--we are

NOT FIT
FOR
THE
KINGDOM OF HEAVEN,
"CANNOT
BE MY DISCIPLE."

Luke 14:26:
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

CANNOT be His disciple. Sobering words.

Evidently those words do not translate well into the hearts and minds of the "SUPER !!!!RELIGIOUS!!!!"

Many has been concocting, with satan's help, all manner of PULL OURSELVES UP BY OUR EARNING-OUR-OWN-SALVATION BOOTSTRAPS for millenia.

As Christ emphasized and Paul in Galatians emphasizes--IT WON'T WASH BEFORE THE THRONE OF GOD.

THE BLOOD OF CHRIST ALONE AVAILS.

BLESSED BE THE WORD OF THE LORD.
BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD.
BLESSED BE THE WAYS OF THE LORD.

Even thou God has set His seal of approval on the Holy Rosary by many miracles, and in spite of the Papal Bulls that have been written approving it, there are only too many people who are against the Holy Rosary [Fr. Mark's Marian prayer would fit into this category as well] today ..

Matthew 7:21-23 21"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

22"Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'

23"And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'
