Nifonging the Catholic Church

I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.

Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.

I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!

Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!

Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!

What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?

Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?

Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!

Also, as we OBSERVE *MANY* Roman Catholics et al vis a vis their crucifixes . . . there seems to be a tailisman/magical attitude toward them—which Prottys find idolatrous. Certainly SOME [seems to me a minority percentage-wise] Prottys have a SIMILAR magical attitude toward their cross jewelry (USUALLY, even then, such attitudes do not seem to be quite as intense on the part of MOST Prottys). MOST PROTTYS just relate to such jewelry crosses as an advertisement of their relationship with Christ—which is something quite different in purpose, feeling and attitude. I think the empty crosses Prottys use are, for us, more like an empty tomb advertisement as well as a reminder of the cost Christ paid and to crucify our flesh daily. Most Prottys don’t likely think of all that very often even when looking at such a cross. They just relate to it as a simple advertisement of their Christianity.

Yes, you protties are perfect. I've understood that ever since I started participating on the RF. Everything you do is right in your own eyes. Everything Catholics do is wicked. Thanks for the reminder, though. /dripping sarcasm

At least we’re not “insane,” like some think Paul was.

I think it's a common belief of unspiritual people to consider prophets, like Jeremiah (considered one of the greatest by the way)and Paul, to be wide-eyed crazy people, clad in goatskins and going around claiming to speak for God. Nothing can be farther from the truth, but their own "superior reason" tells them that this is true. Many believe the Hebrews were nomadic goat keepers who couldn't possibly have known much of anything.

Both Jeremiah and Paul were of the tribe of Benjamin, no small thing for those who know biblical history.

It would be great for you to point out where I said this was anything other than MY OPINION. You know, so that your comment would at least sound true.

I remember reading Romans, all of it, and just being blown away with the depth and understanding that Paul had.

No question it's powerful stuff.

Rom. 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Doesn't sound like good works will save.

Rom. 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

It was Jesus Christ who saved us, not ourselves!

I’m doing a “Marysecretary” today, coming on late and posting catch-up. We miss her

Amen

We may have agreed or disagreed with her, but there was never a question that she had a heart for the Lord.

If the shoe had been on the other foot, it would have been the Roman Catholics et al dog piling on the Protty who had dared to say such things against Paul.

Not me! I would have been posting: "At last, a prottie I can agree with!" But it's interesting that you recognize dogpiling when it occurs.

I doubt he cares.

Anyone who actually read my remarks would have known that I do not speak for the Catholic Church, only give my own opinion.

Oh, the last 300 posts HAVEN'T been about me, and my remarks about Paul? My mistake! Whoever this nameless person is that is catching all the flak, then, should doubtless immediately bow down to the prottie police brigade.

THE POWER OF THE WORD OF GOD IS AWESOME, INDEED.

It does NOT return void.

AMEN! God's word accomplishes all that God pleases and it prospers all those to whom He sends it.

The POWER OF THE WORD, HOLY SPIRIT, GOD’S LOVE ARE ALL SUPREME.

I’d be at a stuck loss as to how to rank them.

No need to rank them. God's love is sovereign and is the reason for our every breath. His love is perfect judgment and His love is perfect mercy.

The Holy Spirit is God working in us in real time and space, here on this earth, now, sanctifying our lives and bringing us closer to Him.

And the word of God, which is the "sword of the Spirit," is the means which the Holy Spirit uses to reach us, teach us and redirect us from darkness to light. The holy Scriptures, God speaking directly to His children, is received with a heart made sorrowful in the knowledge of its sins and a mind renewed to know the truth of Christ risen.

All in all, an amazing plan.

The other day my husband saw the most extraordinary rose, huge and blossoming with deep reds and bright yellows, and he said, "See, this is proof God loves us. He didn't have to make it so beautiful."

So we "rejoice evermore and pray without ceasing, in every thing we give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us."

“There is not one blade of grass, there is no color in this world that is not intended to make us rejoice.” -- John Calvin

Logorrhea? More fiber in the diet will set you aright in no time at all.

Do share your thoughts, etc. about John. O.K., there will be a bit of shin kicking but like I said, we’re just talking not scoring points.

Come ahead, John’s Gospel is a treasure house.

People who miss that fact miss the enormity of the gift. It's all unearned grace, from start to finish.

I remember reading Romans, all of it, and just being blown away with the depth and understanding that Paul had. Of course it was his familiarity with the Jewish traditions that help to enlighten and his great gift from God of the Holy Spirit.

Amen. As my brothers in Christ, you and Wmfights and others have shown me the value and joy in understanding the Old Testament as part of God's one, continuous revelation of Himself.

The Scriptures are one book, one plan, one people, one Savior.

It's such a great starting point when trying to witness to someone who doesn't know the Lord.

On Resurrection Sunday I was so proud of my older son. He brought a Hindu girl he's dating to church with us and at dinner after the service that was the starting point of our conversation. Is it because of what you did or what someone else did that you go to heaven.

maybe, on the internet you never know. Yet let me just point out, as objectively as possible, that it’s rather ingenuous for one to post a thread, make it about one’s personal beliefs and then get offended when people comment on those beliefs.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights, dear brother in Christ!

Nothing can be farther from the truth, but their own "superior reason" tells them that this is true.

When people ask me why the Bible consists of certain books but not other ancient manuscripts, I remind them of John 6:63 - the words of God are spirit and life. The words of men are neither spirit nor life. Thereby Christians know the difference.

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life. – John 6:63

To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. – John 10:3-5

To God be the glory, not man, never man.
