I seriously wonder about some FReepers, sometimes. Any other person accused of a crime would be defended by every FReeper as being innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I've seen whole threads written by men who have been accused of child abuse by ex-wives out to deny them their visitation rights or to wrest more money out of them. These men are rightly indignant, and furious about the unjust accusations that cannot be proven but are never withdrawn.
Yet where are those FReepers when a PRIEST is accused? Where is the presumption of innocence? Suddenly, every accusation becomes a verdict, and not only the accused but his entire organization and all its adherents are held responsible.
I can only wonder what some of these so-called conservatives (who so faithfully defend the Constitution) would do, if THEY were the ones accused! It is a nightmare for any man -- all of you know how even the accusation stains the man forever, even if it is proven false!
Not only that, many here assert that the problems of 30, 40 and even 50 years ago must be tried in the media TODAY!
Remember the Duke rape case? There are more similarities than differences here. The priests are accused, nifonged, and instead of being defended, they are vilified!
What other man of you could stand under the weight of such an accusation trumpeted by the press, and come out whole? None! And such accusations made, LONG after the statute of limitations has passed, sometimes even after the accused is dead and buried for YEARS -- are YOU one of those who automatically, reflexively, spitefully, and gleefully act as judge, jury, and executioner?
Women! What if it were YOUR HUSBAND, YOUR BROTHER, YOUR FATHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR SON who was accused? Wouldn't you want the best defense possible? Wouldn't YOU believe in their innocence? Wouldn't YOU help protect your loved ones as much as possible? And yet, YOU JUDGE THE CHURCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU WOULD DO?
Shame! Vast shame! On all who have sinned against the innocent!
Just a warning from a FRiend:
Do not agree with me. It appears to upset some people around here.
There is none; Scripture did not cover the martyrdom of Peter and Paul. It does not cover the travels of Thomas (to India) either. Scripture overwhelmingly shows Peter as the leader of the Apostles, but does not extend beyond the first few years of the fledgling Church.
scripture that says peter is the leader of the apostles please
Absolutely. God pokes and prods and throws the occasional tire deflator in the path of our cars, and has the merriest time watching us scurry about.
The CHurch is messy. We mess up a LOT! But God keeps on coming through for his children, Catholic or not.
Just like the Sabbath was made for man, so was the Church.
There is only a responsibility to leave when the Lord removes the candlestick. See Ephesus, Revelation 2.
Until then, you stay and fight. See Pergamum & Thyatira.
I’m too independent not to agree with someone when I think they’re right.
I’m retired, don’t owe anyone anything, and sometimes I’m even in a contrary mood.

i would feels it destroys trust and faithful though
John 21: 15 8 9 10 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." 16 He then said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." 17 He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." (Jesus) said to him, "Feed my sheep.
Also, Peter is given the power to forgive sins first, Peter leads the Apostles after Pentecost, raises the first man from the dead, is the only mortal man to walk on water, and converts the first Gentile. Pretty convincing.
1st half of acts, and Paul’s words “reputed to be pillars.”
Jesus’ words, “on this rock, I’ll build my church.”
scripture that says that Peter can forgive sins please
jc is the bride of the church
Amen.
Matthew 16: 16 11 Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." 17 Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood 12 has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. 18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, 13 and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. 14 Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
This preludes the granting of the ability to forgive sins to all the Apostles in Matthew 18: and John 20:
its jc’s church not peter’s
Who is ‘jc’?
The Catholic Church was Created by Jesus the Christ, and commissioned by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The current steward of the Church is Benedict XVI, successor of St. Peter. I don’t know who your ‘jc’ is, but we are Christians here.
These assailants are our brothers and sisters in Christ. SURE their being "separated"is partially their fault and their doing. But it is also a great rebuke, a great mark of shame that we did not proclaim and LIVE the Good News of the Love of God in Jesus so clearly and so devotedly that they did not laugh at Luther's and Calvin's slanders.
But at less exalted level, it just irritates me when the simple and easily accessible rules of logic and thought are treated with such contempt.
You did not eliminate Paul from those to whom you go for Divine counsel. You just said, in essence, that he gives you a pain.
So I made my comment because it irritates me when important discussions are diverted by what amount to sophistical interpretations.
Anyone who is clear about his need for a divine redeemer will be clear about the, what, inconveniences of being redeemed.
We Catholics talk about what it's like to experience redemption -- what it's like to be skinned alive.
Maybe I can say more tomorrow.
“Just to clarify: NEXT Lent I am giving up verbosity, this Lent I gave up chocolate”.
Give up chocolate? Now that’s just sick!
I’ll be back in the morn. Cheers.
Evening, chaplain.
I trust that all’s well.
