I have no idea what Catholics can do about this ... I thought that the Pope was supposed to provide guidance and leadership?

So why such a nasty comment? Why did I deserve that? And on a Religion post?

Okay, thank you. It caught me by surprise. My husband wrote that interview, and I was the one taking the photographs, and when Tom walked in a few moments ago, and I showed him the Free Republic post, he just shook his head from side to side. (No further comment for the time being.) What can one say? Maybe if the Cardinal spent more time in front of the Eucharist (back then), this wouldn't have happened.

Lifetime achievement award? for what? probably be being the only US priest who is a life-long communist and race-baiter.

as an x-Catholic, I know now why I felt the need to leave the Catholic Church. This is an absolute disgrace. Lifetime achievement to a hate-monger....yeah...that makes sense. I never realized how horribly corrupt and void of any common sense Chicago “leadership”(government and so called religious leaders) is.

I try to stay away from the supernatural ... but I must say, at times one remains silent and stares ...
Shades of demonic possessions and stuff. Shivers ...
Simpler non supernatural explanation: Over his head.
Shades of Dirty Harry, the movie: A man’s got to know his limits ... Boom!

Lord, please stop the craziness.
I would guess Pfleger has the goods on someone. Chicago is just a hellhole in most every way anymore.

I’m a Catholic convert living in one of the highest population Catholic areas of the US, Miami Fl. My parish? Well, I can barely go to mass anymore over the complete leftist tilt it has taken since I entered the Church.
How do I find a Parish more in line with the Conservative movement Pope Benedict is making (yes, I realize he is moving the Church Right) when I have a, entrenched Bishop (Favalora) who promotes Social Justice OVER AND ABOVE the teachings of the Church (IMO)?
I’m honestly having a crisis of faith right now at a time in my life when I need my Church more than ever.
You say find a Parish inline more so with Rome. How does one do that? And yes, I’m asking this question in all seriousness.

I read the story at the link. It seems to me the award is being presented to Pfleger by a well-known local black organization. Cardinal George was invited to preside over the evening's program.
I don't think the Cardinal should even be there for a night of "honoring" the anti-American priest, but maybe he was blindsided and accepted the invite too soon before knowing who the honorees were? Or whatever?
Can I see some additional opinions on the circumstances of the event as outlined in the article itself?
I'm not Catholic but consider Catholics my brothers and sisters. I pray for the Pope daily and have always had deep respect for the Church's faithful stand against godless communism.
