The argument is often made that the Catholic Church gave us the Bible, but this could not be further from the truth. Only God could give us the Bible. It was originally authored by Him (II Tim. 3:16) and then preserved by Him (Psalm 12:6-7). The confusion, however, comes from the two streams of Scripture that came out of the Middle East after the time of Christ. The Christians were first called Christians at Antioch, where they diligently copied the Scriptures, and spread them throughout the world. However, Alexandria was the home of scholars who gloried in their knowledge (Jer. 9:24) rather than in Christ, and took copies of the perfect, preserved Word of God and changed them. One in particular, Origen, was extremely proactive in his aggressive revision of Gods Holy Words. His version combined his own works known as the Apocrypha with the Hebrew New Testament in a Greek version (the language of the proud intellectuals of Alexandria). But the Baptist sect known as the Vaudois, were speaking a new language Latin. They translated the pure Hebrew Scriptures into Latin, which became the world language, and carried them across the world. Rome, however, slaughtered the Christians in blatant persecution of these diligent carriers of Gods Holy Word.

Holy mackerel.
I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I was.
An “avid soul winner”?
I agree that [Redacted] is ludicrous as much as he is anything else ... but RM still forbids posting his stuff here. The history of religious discussion on this forum is singularly foul. Moderators had to impose a few rules, to maintain at least a semblance of decorum.
Because we are not supposed to reference the comical hate monger here.
(but they're just so darned funny!)
It wasn’t that hard, take a look at the links in post #64 and you will see that they don’t even try to hide it.
You’ve got mail.
Am I to gather than that [NAME REDACTED] actually has supporters here that made discussion of his tracts a contentious issue?
I don’t know that he has all that many supporters here, but there are plenty of FReepers who are more than happy to believe the worst about the Catholic Church.
Roman Catholics often forget that when the show began there were five principal church centers that rose to prominence over the others: Rome, Antioch, Constantinople, Jerusalem, and Alexandria. For centuries they more or less co-existed.
Over time Rome more or less was estranged from the other four. Some would say Rome estranged itself from the other four, not unlike the Protestants would in turn do to Rome.
Similarly, a strong theme in Roman Catholicism since then is to consider itself THE universal church, with a tendency to dismiss the other Four original churches - Eastern Orthodox, Copt, Chaldean, Cesarean and the various minor ones. They forget that they were once upon a time part of that greater body before more or less going it alone.
Ironically not unlike the Protestant church which broke off and went it’s own way, which the Catholics love to criticize, forgetting in fact they did much the same thing a few centuries earler. Roman Catholics are every bit as headstrong when it comes to asserting their primacy central church, they just don’t like to admit it, and I think tend to sweep that history under the rug a bit.
Now it’s blasphemy to criticize Protestants?. We’ve got a bigger problem than Mary-worship then ....
Your list of the "other four" original Patriarchates (Churches) is ... wrong.
And the Chaldean Church is in communion with Rome, as are "Eastern" Churches throughout eastern Europe and Asia Minor.
And that Anglican Ordinariate was welcomed with great joy by the "Roman" Catholics on this forum.
“We have no need to claim it was handed down by His angel.”
Actually, portions were delivered by agency of angels!
Who have received the Law by the disposition
of ANGELS, and have not kept it (Acts 7:53).
Speaking about the Law of God, the apostle Paul in the
Book of Hebrews said,
The word spoken by ANGELS was steadfast,
and every transgression and disobedience
received a just recompense of reward.
(Hebrews 2:2)
You might also read this by Paul...
Wherefore then serves the Law? It was
added because of transgressions, till
the seed should come to whom the promise
was made; and it was ordained by ANGELS
in the hand of a mediator (Galatians 3:19)
Never the less, all scripture is inspired by
GOD.
