The argument is often made that the Catholic Church gave us the Bible, but this could not be further from the truth. Only God could give us the Bible. It was originally authored by Him (II Tim. 3:16) and then preserved by Him (Psalm 12:6-7). The confusion, however, comes from the two streams of Scripture that came out of the Middle East after the time of Christ. The Christians were first called Christians at Antioch, where they diligently copied the Scriptures, and spread them throughout the world. However, Alexandria was the home of scholars who gloried in their knowledge (Jer. 9:24) rather than in Christ, and took copies of the perfect, preserved Word of God and changed them. One in particular, Origen, was extremely proactive in his aggressive revision of Gods Holy Words. His version combined his own works known as the Apocrypha with the Hebrew New Testament in a Greek version (the language of the proud intellectuals of Alexandria). But the Baptist sect known as the Vaudois, were speaking a new language Latin. They translated the pure Hebrew Scriptures into Latin, which became the world language, and carried them across the world. Rome, however, slaughtered the Christians in blatant persecution of these diligent carriers of Gods Holy Word.

I’d like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I’d like to hold it in my arms
And keep it company
So sorry, here is the correct version:
I’d like to buy the world a home and furnish it with love,
Grow apple trees and honey bees, and snow white turtle doves.
I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony,
I’d like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company.
(Repeat the last two lines, and in the background)
It’s the real thing, Coke is what the world wants today.
This was an old thread that was resurrected. I really need to read dates.
Yup.
Let me get this straight: you actually believe that those five tenants will damn someone?
No, its what they leave out that will. Salvation requires works and faith.
Works flow from faith and salvation is of faith alone.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are Gods handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:8-9.
Note that works are not disregarded, but that salvation comes only by faith.
"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God." Romans 5:1-2.
Note that we are justified by faith, not by faith and works. For more detail, see Romans 4 and the discussion of how Abraham was saved by faith, not works.
"This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3:22-24.
And what did Paul say to the jailer, when asked about salvation? "They replied, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be savedyou and your household. Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house." Acts 16:31. Not a mention of works--just faith.
"Then they asked him, What must we do to do the works God requires? Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." John 6:28-29.
It is this very teaching Roman Catholic Church that has put so very many souls in danger of damnation. It convinces the hearer that faith is not enough to save (for that is what it preaches), and that one's works must make up the difference. But the sensitive soul will reach the right conclusion, that their works are far too puny to contribute and it undermines their faith and salvation. If anyone causes one of these little onesthose who believe in meto stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
It will not go well for him that teaches salvation, even in part, by works. As Jesus said: "If anyone causes one of these little onesthose who believe in meto stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." Matthew 18:6.
Sorry my FRiend but we are going to have to agree to disagree. I believe that Salvation is found in the Gospels and the actual Words of Christ. The majority of your citations are from the works of St. Paul. His mission was not to reveal a new Gospel or even revise or redact the Words of Christ, but to spread them and explain them As such they must be interpreted in the context of the Synoptic Gospels, not the other way around.
I pray you are doing well. Hopefully more Roman Catholics will come to the truth like you did.
