I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?
Going to bed already? It’s only 2:30 out there. I’m going to go shoot a possum so I can make Janet from another planet Napolitano a new wig
God does not ask or command the impossible. Those who are invincibly ignorant will gain salvation without ever having heard the Gospel. However, it does not extend to those of you who are merely insufferably ignorant.
Darryl sez possum's best when you club 'em. (Darryl agrees.)
hear that? you’re insufferably ignorant. Apparently because you think the only way to heaven is thru Christ.
The rest of your comments about the OPC are nonsensical. Theonomy simple refers to "God's law." I understand how a church like the RCC which often breaks God's law is so unfamiliar with the term. From Wikipedia...
The term "Theonomy" has been used to describe various views which see the God revealed in the Bible as the sole source of human ethics. Using the word in this sense, Cornelius Van Til argued that there "is no alternative but that of theonomy or autonomy" (Christian Theistic Ethics p. 134).
You disagree with that?
If you're interested, here's the OPC's website.
"We prefer the company of those who are merely invincibly insufferable."
Amen! Your vast understanding of the Old Testament always makes me return to it to read and learn more.
Well actually, to my understanding, the Jewish People were awaiting their “ Messiah King”...who would rule from the House of King David, at that time.
We can follow Messiah King and His lineage in the Old Testament, wonderfully presented throughout. (which I’ve often wished had not been designated old and new, for they both interrupet each other and rest on the other. Then again the new is the New Covenant so it sorta makes sense. But I love them both equally.)
Interesting you mentioning the curtain torn between the Holy of Holies and the people...both Jews and Gentiles had their places in the courtyard of the temple. Of course only the High Priest could enter the Holy Of Holies (thru the curtain) and that not without the sacrificial animals blood shed first...even for himself... “There is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood.”
When the cutain was torn, (and BTW from ‘top’ to ‘bottom’, which for the gigantic size of it could never have been done by any man), at the time of Christ’s crucifixon, God Himself therefore opened the way for ALL to come into His presence...both Jew and Gentile. The curtain is very symbolic of the wall of sin which sperated us from God.
lol. Show me where I spoke about creating graven images without including praying to those graven images.
There is no defense for the idolatry Rome practices, with pride, no less.
That is the most dysfunctional show I have ever seen. It is hilarious.
Only if it falls on a Tuesday.
That’s what she said.
That’ll be easy to remember as I always pay my hamburger bills on Tuesday
lol lol, shut up Phyllis
Vance. Vance refrigeration.
Now that has me lolrotf...good one!
Yes, that’s indeed why we speak of “corned” beef! Not to mention the foot problem! :)
No, it’s St. Peter The reason I bring up just Catholics is because the thread was about Catholics. However, in one of my previous posts, I don’t really trust any religion.
I must confess.....I am probably just a tad bit bitter regarding organized religion. I was raised Lutheran, then once I was old enough not to be forced going to church, I stopped.
As I grew up, I wanted back in. I went back to the church I grew up in and there were 2 new Pastors....a man and wife.
Perhaps I am old school, but I don’t think women should be Pastors. It bugged me the entire time, even though she was very nice (so I thought, but that’s another story), I just couldn’t get over it.
It ruined my whole church experience, so I stopped going. Some time later, I read one of the Lutheran sects started accepting GAY PASTORS!!!
GAY PASTORS!!!! THAT’S AN ABOMINATION!!!! I think there are what, 4 or 5 different sects of Lutheran, but it puts a black eye on all of them. That’s probably not fair, but sometimes I do that.
Then you have the Priests who molested all those children. We are all human and some of us make grave mistakes. However, it was the way the leaders of the church handled it. How long did it take for them to admit there was a problem? How many of those Priests did they shuffle around, putting more kids in danger!
I have lost faith in the whole organized church, especially the older ones. I’m still trying to find my way.
On that note, I will continue to read my Bible and learn on my own. If I am wrong about some things, it’s all on me; however, God knows my heart. I don’t think He will be too angry with me.
I forget what verse it is, but it’s something like there is forgiveness if you do wrong not knowing any better than doing wrong when you know better. I’ll have to look that one up...now I need to know!
