Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me

Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

No payment for sins is occurring in Purgatory though, — Christ fully and completely atoned for any sin anyone has committed or will commit.

Then why in the normal course is someone required to confess a mortal sin and then be absolved by a priest in order to get into Heaven? It would seem that if a mortal sin must be separately absolved then Christ did not fully and completely atone for it.

If you push this kind of construction, however, many will take you as finding YOUR OWN thoughts and thought-life to be infallible.

Yes, but since I'm Catholic, what's one more lie told about me by those who make themselves enemies of the Church founded by Christ?

They sound so utterly offended to the point of paranoia. One must sit back and wonder what they think others intend to do to them. I mean, they are hidden behind their screen names and do not give their locations-—yet they respond as if someone intends to do them physical harm because of their positions

Hmm... weren't you the one that said

And this in the face of the fact that worldwide there are people who are demon-possessed, worshippers of unclean things still standing at the front of altars controlled by the “SEE”, opening their mouths and having something called “His Body” put in their mouths every Sunday morning.
And those were your words of loving kindness?

Hey, if you ever meet any of those intellectuals, tell 'em I said hi...And tell them I'd like to lead them away from their false sense of widsom and lead them to Jesus Christ...

Sure, you can meet them among the Gnostics that one of your earlier posts championed

Ah, the true feelings come out, finally:

And they're just like a colony of ants...One leads and the rest blindly follow... I mean you hold a cracker in your hand and they tell you to 'believe' it is the actual God of Creation that lands on your tongue and ultimately leaves about 20 minutes later... I'd like to sneak in dressed as a priest and tell the gullible people that their cars they drove to the church in just turned into washing machines... You gotta wonder how many would be out there after the Mass filling 'em with water...

Nobody here hates Catholics, their priests, their bishops, their cardinals, or their pope.

really? Then what about what YOU posted: And this in the face of the fact that worldwide there are people who are demon-possessed, worshippers of unclean things still standing at the front of altars controlled by the “SEE”, opening their mouths and having something called “His Body” put in their mouths every Sunday morning

So, do YOU believe that? Since YOU posted that, we can conclude that's a statement of YOUR beliefs, correct?

Enemies of the Catholic Church do not get to decide what Catholics believe. Satan is the father of all lies.

Enemies of The Church are not your Holy, Christ-believing Christian Protestants. Rather, you have various cultic groups like the OPC, various "I believe in the Church of myself" nutcases and the UFO-ologist and Israelo-Christologists that inhabit these posts.

Only a few of the supposedly Protestant or Baptist posters here (like Forest Keeper, though I don't agree with your points, FK, at least you keep it as a debate, not a name-calling exercise -- there are numerous others on FR of course and even on this thread,) really ARE Christ-believing as opposed to a "let's fight about something" group.

I know lots of protestants, and have shared their worship services. None of them act like the protestants here.

A very good point. I've refrained from calling the actions of certain posters here as "Protestant", because I know that those posters do not represent Protestants as a whole, nor even do they represent their individual denominations (except for those belonging to way-out-there cults of a few hundred to a thouasand)

Altar?

It's what we call the front of the church--where the steps up to the stage plus about 12-15 feet in front of the steps (before the first row of seats), are.

That's one of the differences between us. We don't have a stage to be entertained on. We have a altar - which is a table, not a stage.

Actually, that's a FALSE statement. Roman Catholic/Vatican associated altars are ALWAYS on a stage. And your pagentry, ceremony etc. appears to be far more coreographed, costumed, scripted etc. for entertainment than even any mega church or TV evangelists production that I've ever seen. It's better to talk about the truth and facts in such matters. Roman Catholic et al/Vatican associated churches virtually always to always have their altars on a stage.

NO! Our stage is not for entertainment. We actually tend to [almost always] have the lights OUT on the stage except for lights on the music stands to de-emphasize what goes on on the stage. Our music minister is IN LOVE WITH JESUS AND WORSHIPS GOD MORE INTENSELY, AUTHENTICALLY, FOCUSEDLY THAN ANYTHING ELSE HE DOES. . . . and probably than I've ever seen anyone else do. HE TRULY LEADS WORSHIP.

He is routinely more obviously and tangibly ANOINTED BY HOLY SPIRIT THAN ANYONE I'VE EVER SEEN BEFORE. And he is definitely NOT about entertainment. The whole idea would grieve him . . . and likely engender a harsh rebuke from him if he felt someone under his leadership was operating out of such a mentality or spirit in front of the congregation AT ALL. He doesn't tolerate that.

Y'all's assumptions about that are wholesale falsehoods and brazen insults to what Holy Spirit does service after service through that very anointed man.

And those assumptions were wholesale insults to what the majority of folks in the congregation do in response to his leading us into worship of ALMIGHTY GOD, OUR LORD JESUS, BY HIS SPIRIT.

Folks--irregularly and as they individually wish . . . stand and pray there; stand and are prayed for with the laying on of hands there; . kneel there; recline against the steps there, praying; kneel at the steps; praying; . lie prostrate near the steps; lie prostrate near the first row of seats; dance between the first row of seats and steps;

You mean like these guys?
[PIC OF WOODSTOCK]

################################

Y'all's altars are always [any I've seen or seen pics of] on an elevated platform. Or does the Vatican shredded dictionary not reveal that an elevated platform equal a "stage?"

You called your raised platform, the steps up to it and the space in front of it an altar. The Church's altar is a table. We are different there.

NO! That's UNTRUE. I did NOT call the platform/stage an altar. That's entirely wrong headed to interpret what I said in that way.

I mentioned the stage/platform and steps leading up to it ONLY TO LOCATE the mental "altar" in our minds and hearts. We consider the FRONT CARPETED AREA IN FRONT OF THE PLATFORM--BETWEEN THE FRONT ROW OF SEATS AND THE STAIRS UP TO THE PLATFORM--TO BE OUR ALTAR AREA.

THAT IS THE AREA where we approach God to offer HIM our devotion of praise, thanks, worship--as though one might have approached God to worship at an Old Testament altar. Only there's no object focused on as an altar at all. It's merely an AREA that we spiritually, mentally consider AS AN ALTAR AREA IN OUR HEARTS, MINDS, SPIRITS.

I realize some Roman Catholics/Vatican associated folks seem to be having a terminal trouble wrapping their minds around that concept--evidently because they are so wedded to the tangible as essential in their services.

We have no such tangible focus. It's merely an area in the front of the church where we focus on God as Old Testament folks used to focus on an altar in worshipping God. Huge difference.

If folks cannot or will not understand that, then they cannot or will not understand the TRUTH about our congregation.

Your stage is a place of entertainment or the place to put on a show; where the actors perform. The altar is a place of a re-presentation of the Sacrifice of Jesus. Your entertainers versus our priests. We are different there.

MORE BRAZENLY FALSE ASSUMPTIONS AND ASSERTIONS.

I've already spoken above to the aversion every staff person and the whole congregation have regarding entertainment vs authentically leading worship and authentic-focused-on-God-worship. Entertainment is NOT what goes on during our worship services. Period. We consider it offensive to God and to us. Any hint of that would be a very good way to get jerked off the darkened platform quite quickly.

BTW, That pic looks like it was taken in a huge outdoor worship setting or an arena type huge indoor setting. I think it's wonderful when that many youth will mass together to worship God. PRAISE GOD!

Only if God's name is really Jimi Hendrix, the worship setting is in Woodstock, and the sacraments are either smoked or snorted. I think that you may mean - praise Timothy Leary.

I see. I neglected to right click on the pic. I ASSUMED you were posting a pic more or less in somewhat good faith about a genuine Charismatic Christian youth worship event.

I now understand that was the furthest from your action and evidently from your intent.

Our fledgling dialogue is over. I will no longer work with you toward more mutual respect between Prottys and Roman Catholics/Vatican associated believers. I will not tolerate that kind of outrageously insulting duplicity about/toward something as dear to me and to many I care for deeply as the uncommon authentic worship which occurs at our church.

I assumed you posted that pic in good faith toward coming to an authentic understanding of what authentic worship entails and is like in my congregation.

You have taught me that such an assumption of good faith is an outrageously foolish thing to extend to you. I won't have to learn that lesson by repeated trips around the same mountain.

fini.

However, most Catholics I know act like the Catholics here...

you mean they have gotten so fed up of people making up false accusations of what Catholics believe and they rigourously defend The Church?

you know what's strange -- I was a very luke-warm Catholic until I started looking into the FR religious forum. When I started seeing all the accusations made about The Church, I looked up, read The Bible in more depth again and again and found those accusations false. Then I saw posters post things like "And this in the face of the fact that worldwide there are people who are demon-possessed, worshippers of unclean things still standing at the front of altars controlled by the “SEE”, opening their mouths and having something called “His Body” put in their mouths every Sunday morning." and things that say that the Pope is a Nazi and things that are from blogs portrayed as Church websites and I asked myself "why do they attack The Church with:
1. incorrect statements
2.Utter, laughable, verifiably false statements

And I realised that they have either been misled by their teachers or they are there to make Catholics stronger in their faith.

So posters like you, Quix, the good Doctor etc. have actually made us Catholics stronger in our beliefs as you have pointed out how true our beliefs ARE (by lying about what they are supposed to be) and have shown us how The Church is guided by God.

And Catholics outside this website are now learning more about what They believe and are no longer being led astray by Jimmy Swaggert-esque bouffants, but KNOW the little lies (like "Easter" supposedly being related to 'Eostre' -- completely forgetting that in other languages, like Polish, it isn't called Easter, but "Great Night" or Pascha) that are used to led people away from The Church.

We also KNOW that our beliefs are not man-made. If a historical Pope was bad, or some priests were bad that doesn't have an impact on The Church, on our beliefs or doctrine. In contrast, any mega-c crumbles when the errors of it's "preacher" are pointed out -- because THAT is man-made.

The attacks on Christ's bride, have only made Her stronger.

Even Satan and his minions have no power to destroy The Church.
