Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me
Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience
I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

Didn’t this same junk get tried last night at about the same time? Could this be like when my 3 year-old nephew was about ready to crash for the night, he would be bouncing off the walls first? Is it night, night time again???

1000s: "Their absurd theology has in effect, reasoned that Mary married the Holy Spirit, and that in effect, she is now the Holy Spirit."
NL: Whose theory are you referring to because you are certainly not referring to the Catholic Church?
1000s is spouting Muslim propaganda. That statement is what Muslims are taught about Christians beliefs
you aren't muslim, are you 1000s?

Sleep well. I'm going to attempt a Yeast Biscuit recipe for tomorrow morning that can supposedly be left out overnight. We'll see.

I think one of my biggest treasures in Asia was often experiencing Christians of all flavors coming together in an area and working FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD
Good point -- that probably happens more when Christians are a persecuted minority and learn to work together instead of politicking.

Why on earth would you pray to someone whom you do not worship?
ref: British texts about "prayer" to the King where "I pray to thee" stands for plea / petition.
That is the language English, a gloriously messy language!

I am not a trinitarian
Oh, we're sorry, we thought you believed in a triune God -- God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit -- all ONE God. You don't believe in that?

So, then YOU are saying that Orthodox Presbyterians and Baptist beliefs are similar even though the OPC practises infant baptism? Do Presbyterians believe that baptism is necessary for salvation, a kind of spiritual circumcision? And do both Presbyterians and Orthodox Presbyterians and Baptists believe in
1. Total depravity
2. Unconditional predestination
3. Limited atonement
4. Irresistible grace
5. Final perseverance

Do not make this thread "about" individual Freepers. That is a form of "making it personal."
Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

Post # 921 "Nowhere in Scripture does God command anyone to construct a statue or graven image and kneel to that image in prayer." --> nothing about praying TO the imageI You've got to be kidding. Is this the level of the RC's defense of their faith?
For those with problems in reading comprehension, I wrote...
"...kneel to that image in prayer.."
Praying to.. As I said. As I have always said, contrary to your false assertion.
Once again. Kneeling in prayer to God is one thing. Kneeling in prayer to a statue/graven image is pagan idolatry.
Protestants have a difficult time conceiving of the level of self-deception involved in supposed Christians praying to assorted dead people/saints/Mary when the Triune God is the only one who hears and answers our prayers.

"Is this the level of the RC's defense of their faith?" Why should anyone entertain your questions when you wrap them in a derogatory term, particularly when the Catholic faith needs no defense.
