Will be going through this with our eight-year-old, who is learning The Apostles Creed in Religious Education.
You have FReepmail.

There have many several threads lately about creationism, etc. Hopefully some of those people will weigh in here too.
What is the origin of the ‘Pocket Catholic Catechism’and is it different from the ‘Catechism of the Catholic Church’?
The new Apostles Creed:
believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son,
our Lord,
who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again
from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand
of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge
the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.
The Apostles Creed | The Nicene Creed |
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. |
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all that is, seen and unseen. |
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. |
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven: |
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. |
by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. |
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. |
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered died and was buried. |
On the third day he rose again. | On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; |
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead |
he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. |
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. |
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. |
The new Nicene Creed per the USCCB website:
I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit
was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake
he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated
at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord,
the giver of life, who proceeds
from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
And one, holy, catholic
and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism
for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection
of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Is there a date set, when all the parishes will use the New Nicene Creed?
Supposedly the beginning of Advent — 2010. We shall see.
Thank you. Salvation. Very enlightening.
(I had a little problem, though, trying to read it with the text centered. I had to copy it into a word document to read it as left aligned.)
It is also closer to the translation of the creed I used in England when I visited there several years ago.
It’s written by Fr. John Hardon, and is an excellent resource. Available online:

Thank you for the information on the Pocket Catholic Catechism.
Also available here: http://www.catholicreference.net/
That’s where I get the Catholic Word of the Day.
