'Ark of the Covenant' about to be unveiled (Friday June 26th at 2p.m Italian time)
WND | June 25th, 2009

The patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia says he will announce to the world Friday the unveiling of the Ark of the Covenant, perhaps the world's most prized archaeological and spiritual artifact, which he says has been hidden away in a church in his country for millennia, according to the Italian news agency Adnkronos.

Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, told the news agency, "Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries."

The announcement is expected to be made at 2 p.m. Italian time from the Hotel Aldrovandi in Rome. Pauolos will reportedly be accompanied by Prince Aklile Berhan Makonnen Haile Sellassie and Duke Amedeo D'Acosta.

Jeremiah 3:16 points to a time when the Ark will vanish not only physically, but from the minds of the people: "And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more."

The Book of Revelation says the Ark is in the temple of God in heaven (Rev. 11:19). Muslim scholars say it will be found near the end of times by the Mahdi – a messianic figure in Islam

I’ve seen some of that about the Red Sea crossing. I sure would like to have some good evidence on that, though. I would like to see divers going down and bring stuff back up and really documenting it. But, apparently there is resistance to having something like that done.

And then I’ve heard about another “Indiana Jones type” finding the place where the Moses struck the rock and the water came out of it, and the mountain where the Ten Commandments were given.

I’ve seen this same guy talk about Axum and the Ark of the Covenant, and then I’ve heard others talking about Noah’s Ark, during the flood and where it might be.

But, unfortunately, it always turns out to be so uncertain and sort of speculative, because no one can every “put their hands” on something... :-)

I think the only thing we’re gonna know — for sure — with this great announcement, is that a museum is opening and what the admission fee for the public will be... LOL...

ancient capacitor?

I remember reading that some university recreated it according to scriptural instructions. Their result was a high capacitance, due to the result of gold plates (conductor) separated by wood (non conductor). I think the gap at the mercy seat would discharge - arc - it.

Also, the instructions are to carry the arc with wood poles while wearing boots of animal fur - which would serve as insulation for the purpose of not discharging the capacitor while transporting.

I have no idea about the validity of this.

I have an honest question that seems to throw this Ethiopian Ark stuff a curve ball. ...

"If the Ark was taken to Ethiopia by one of Solomon's sons (or whoever) around 500-600 BC, then are we to believe that Herod's Temple at the time of Christ was absent of an Ark? Did Christ Jesus worship at a Temple that did not have an Ark in it and therefore void of the presence of God? Did the Pharisees and Sanhedrin who were very jealous of the Jewish traditional ways and religious ceremonies perform their duties knowing full well that they were not in compliance with God's law?"

I seem to believe that this wasn't true and there was a full representation of the Ark complete with the original Ten Commandments and other artifacts that were inside the Ark present during the time of Herod's Temple (the 2nd temple) and therefore the one in Ethiopia could not be the true Ark.

If I am missing something here, I'm sure someone will enlighten me.

Also, didn't the High Priest have to sprinkle the blood of the Red Heifer onto the mercy seat on the Ark on the Day of Atonement? (I think I have that right but I'm not sure) Weren't there also many rituals performed by the priests around the time of Nehemiah or Zerubabul that sanctified the Temple (and one can only assume that the Ark was present there as well)?

More food for thought ...

Ann didn’t “invent” the phrase. In fact, it predates the internet ~ first place I ever saw it was in a letter to the editor in the old Washington Star newspaper.

I had no idea.., I just heard her say it. It would be interesting for someone to trace it back to a beginning...

My guess is that it would have to be traced back to some abortionist being killed, or else it wouldn’t come into being in another context.

Let'd chip in to send Pat Buchanan to the opening. It'd be fun to see him melt.

Nope. Nope. Nope.

The purpose of the red heifer was to provide ashes to be mixed with water from the pool of Shiloach to purify Jews from contact with dead bodies. One defiled by such contact may not enter the Temple or eat consecrated food.

Ping for later

Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a great hailstorm.

Orthodox bump.

For those who don’t know, this is nothing knew. The Ethiopian Orthodox have claimed that they have all or part of the Ark for over a thousand years. And some research matches the legends.

This is one of those things that sounds very sensational, but isn’t quite what many here want it to be.

The Ark was gone by the time of Herod’s Temple. Josephus speaks of it, and after the sack of the Temple in 70 AD, the Ark was not on the list of things taken (neither on the Roman or Jewish lists).

It quietly drops out the picture some time before that. Close to the time where the Ethiopian legends of the ark start.

Have they been using Lemon Pledge to keep it polished up and smelling nice? :-)

Well, that’s the heavenly one, the original... but what about the earthly one, which was a copy of the heavenly one. That’s the one I’m wondering about... :-)
