Good question. Why not let people believe and worship as they see fit, and quit trying to "convert" them to some other flavor.
More than 90% of the people in this country believe in God, in some fashion. So long as their beliefs don't include lopping heads off their opponents, or flying planes into skyscrapers, or any other violations of constitutional rights, then they don't need to be converted.
Those who are evangelizing seem more interested in creating chaos and confusion rather than harmony.
The creators of chaos and confusion are more often associated with evil than with good.
FLDS/LDS Prophet Brigham Young made this statement in 1846: "I ... warned those who lied and stole and followed Israel that they would have their heads cut off, for that was the law of God and it should be executed" ("Manuscript History of Brigham Young," December 20, 1846, typed copy; original in LDS church archives).
"If any miserable scoundrels come here, cut their throats." - From red hot blood atonement sermon by Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. II., page 311. At the conclusion of the injunction to "cut their throats, " "all the people said 'amen!' "
I see you've had experience with MORMON missionaries; too!
“Those who are evangelizing seem more interested in creating chaos and confusion rather than harmony.”
Well, I’ll respond to that.
I wondered what motivated Mormons in particular to evangelize, if they think everyone’s going to some sort of heaven anyway. I don’t wonder about the Bible-believing Christian church.
We are told by Jesus Himself to give the gospel. We are told to take it to the ends of the earth.
We don’t see ourselves as creating confusion or chaos, although I can see where that can result by a negative response to the gospel.
You need to understand, we believe that unless you trust in Jesus as your Savior, you are going to hell. As a general rule we love other people and want them to go to heaven, also, to enjoy the love of God in this life. So that’s our motivation, or I’d say at least most of our motivation.
It would be a cold person who sees their neighbor about to peacefully fall into a fiery pit and not even utter a word of warning, just because he doesn’t want to rock the boat.
That said, I do believe the gospel should be shared kindly and respectfully, without an element of “forcing” as you may be referencing.
