I am tired of how some anti-Mormons here at FR, and other places, mis-use the history and teachings of my Church.
This was posted:::::::::
President John Taylor stated: "Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p.167);
Here is the part of the article not posted for you and as you read it, you will find that it does not say the things about my church that is implued by leaving out large parts of the text.
Please note, the address is to us, the LDS people, from one of the church leaders at the time, telling us that we are not doing what we should and that we must do better.
In no way is President Taylor saying what the original post says he is saying..
Notice how the jump the first part of the post into another sentence and into another thought.
The information is taken out of context and turned into an untruth.
I have put {{}} around the parts posted to make it easer to see the misuse of this document.

We have first to learn submission to the will of God ourselves, through various trials, persecutions, and the development of our weaknesses and imperfections, and thereby learn to appreciate the goodness and blessings that flow from him. We must see that we ourselves first learn obedience, and then teach others. But how can we teach others a lesson which we have not learned ourselves?
There is not nation now that acknowledges that hand of God; there is not a king, potentate, nor ruler that acknowledges his jurisdiction. We talk about {{ Christianity }}, but it {{ is a perfect pack of nonsense }}. Men talk about civilization; but I do not want to say much about that, for I have seen enough of it. Myself and hundreds of the Elders around me have seen its pomp, parade, and glory; and what is it? It is a sounding brass and a tinkling symbol; it is as corrupt as hell; {{ and the Devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work that the Christianity of the nineteenth century. }}

There you go putting words in my mouth I came into this Church through the Book of Mormon No missionaries, no knowledge of Joseph Smith etc
And as a member, all the manuals, talks, teachings, etc. are filtered through the teachings of JS and his successors.
The Holy Spirit has borne witness to me, that’s why I reject Mormon theology. Why is it that the LDS church uses the Bible to prove their theology but says it’s wrong when it disagrees .... then too, how is it that the “mistakes” in the Bible show up in the BOM .....
It seems the other way around I have become your enemy, because I tell you the truth!
But have you found Jesus Christ?
Apparently not the True one, the Jesus of the LDS is a counterfeit Christ.
It seems the other way around I have become your enemy, because I tell you the truth!
YOU are not my enemy. I love the Mormon people. The LDS church is my enemy becuase it enslaves well intentioned people and keeps them in darkness. It promotes the lies of Satan and keeps people from REALLY knowing Jesus Christ. My heart breaks for the LDS people, it truly does, which is why I witness to them.
I fine that kind of questioning when it has been testified to as being disrespectful and also for some reason you think I need your approval or an ok from those in lock step.!
Well my allegiance is to the Lord Jesus Christ not to some tradition even philosophy of men
***Maybe the tradition of men from the Constantine era never got it right?****
Poor Constantine. Without him the cults would not have a whipping boy for all their weird beliefs.
Alamo-Girl,
Right on. Excellent post.
I know no mormon I hate. None. Mormonism, the heretical teaching, I oppose just as God has commanded all Christians to oppose false teachings.
Big difference.
“Well my allegiance is to the Lord Jesus Christ not to some tradition even philosophy of men
Wrongo!
1. Please explain who YOU believe “the Lord Jesus Christ” to be.
2. As to the “tradition of man” - the mormon church has more man made traditions and rituals than the Pharisees! As one simple example, please show us the Temple Rituals in any of the writings mormonism considers inspired?
Resty, you are kidding yourself. You deserve better.

Wow there sure are a lot of competing halos out today patting each other on the back!:)
Very elegant yet to the point. Thank you.
And that means what?
“Wow there sure are a lot of competing halos out today patting each other on the back!:)
And I pat you on the back for being here where you can get more than the lds party line!
PAT!
Excellent post, AG! Your post are always so well versed and a blessing to all.
So the only filrer I have is the Holy Ghost!
The second person EVE listened to was Satan.
She was SURE that what she was told was true.
Man needs to listen to the Lord and search the scriptures this is where truth lies and the Holy Spirit will bear witness to all that is of our Lord.
John 5: 39
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
You SAY these things; but your TESTIMONY shows that you DIDN'T...
Galatians 1:7-10
7. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. 2 Corinthians 11:14-15
14. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. Revelation 13:13-15
13. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, 14. And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. |
Whuch SHOULD have warned you about THIS:

17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the otherThis is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!
18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.
20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, Never mind, all is wellI am well enough off. I then said to my mother, I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.If one believes the Bible is correct, then, by that Standard, Mormonism fails the test.If, however, you are convinced that the Bible is either in error, been corrupted or mis-interpreted, then you are free to believe whatever you wish.
