Life Teen Founder Excommunicated
American Papist ^ | December 15, 2008 | Thomas Peters

Posted on 12/16/2008 6:47:29 AM PST by NYer

Fr. Dale Fushek, best known for being one of the founders of "Life Teen", has finally been excommunicated.

From the Diocese of Phoenix website:

December 15, 2008-The Most Rev. Thomas J. Olmsted, Bishop of Phoenix, has issued a Decree of Excommunication to Reverend Monsignor Dale Fushek and Reverend Mark Dippre.

Fushek and Dippre have incurred the censure of excommunication because they have chosen to be in schism with the Catholic Church by establishing and leading an opposing ecclesial community known to the public as the Praise and Worship Center. Both priests have consistently refused to comply with explicit directions by Bishop Olmsted to discontinue engaging in public ministry. The excommunications were incurred after repeated offers of reconciliation were ignored. The decree of excommunication by Bishop Olmsted declares the censure that Fushek and Dippre, as ordained priests, have brought upon themselves. The purpose of these sanctions is to reconcile both men with the Catholic Church and to preserve the integrity and unity of the Diocese.

... Bishop Olmsted continues to express his grave concern for Catholics who may be misled or confused by the actions of Dale Fushek and Mark Dippre. The Diocese of Phoenix does not endorse the actions of these excommunicated priests and we encourage Catholics to refrain from attending or supporting the Praise and Worship Center. We remind Catholics that the ultimate form of praise and worship is and always will be the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and we urge them to keep the Mass as the center of their lives. There is no substitution for the graces received at Mass and no prayer more edifying.

Marcel has a reaction statement from the current president of Life Teen, Randy Raus, making the point that Fr. Fushek's involvement with Life Teen is long over:

This excommunication is not connected in any way with the ministry of Life Teen, as all of the actions that led to this occurred after Rev. Dale Fushek’s involvement with our ministry. Further, I want to make it clear that Life Teen is in no way associated with his new venture.

Even though it has been almost four years since he has been directly involved with the movement of Life Teen, the media continues to associate Rev. Dale Fushek with Life Teen. While we continue to pray for Rev. Dale Fushek, the movement of Life Teen is in full support of Bishop Olmsted and Diocese of Phoenix in this matter.

Fr. Fushek (wiki entry) has been very bad news for a long time. In 2005 he was indicted for sexually-related misdemeanor charges. The one-time vicar general of the diocese was accused of sexually abusing a teen, and costing the diocese a $100,000 settlement. I commented on this developing story briefly back in January.

Well, good riddance.

You’re right - that was a misuse of “Protestant.” This is far too goofball to attribute to Protestants, who generally aren’t found on Planet Zongo, anyway.

>>Having a good Advent?<<

Most of it. I have two sick kids today and found out that I am corraling 17 boys, ranging in age from 6 to 12, who want to be shepherds this year. When I was first “Shepherd Mom” I had two and recrutted my older daughter to be the first female shepherd so we would have enough.

I’m not doing this next year!

Look on the bright side - at least you’re not corraling sheep!

I hope the girls feel better soon.

Charismatic Catholics, on the whole, are very much Catholic.

This priest, through his own actions, proved that he didn’t believe in either the Commandments or the Laws of the Church. Nor did he respect the vows of Holy Orders that he took when he was ordained.

Did you type that in, or cut-and-paste?

I'm laughing because of the line "mandated acceptance of proscribed theology" (maybe supposed to be "prescribed theology"?). Freudian slip on their part?

It says “proscribed theology” on their website. Must have fooled their spell-check, since it is a correctly-spelled word. *snert*

Cut and paste direct from their website.

That is amazing. The Catholic Church finally flexing muscle against schism.

I have a couple more people who I think they should consider for public scrutiny and excommunication, but politicians are given a waiver, aren’t they?

This is at least a step in the right direction. The Catholic Church will get ‘culled’ of CINOs and schismatics in the next few years under the Presidency of the Marxist-one.

Thanks!

The bedding is out of the washer. The beginning of a better time.

YOU know how that is! I can’t imagine having to deal with every member of your family being sick at the same time *shudder*

Looks like they are taking the playbook of the Kumbaya crowd. Geez I’m glad the 60’s are over....

Fortunately, we have good immune systems. Also, when we do get sick, it’s usually one or two at a time rather than the whole crowd.

I was a Charismatic before I was a Catholic. No one told me there was any problem with it. There was a Charismatic Bible Study and Prayer group at two Catholic Churches that I have attended. One was very low key and met to hear speakers on various subjects (Catechism of the Catholic Church and Biblical references abounded) and then had prayer. We would lay hands on specific people who asked for prayer and we often had group prayer for certain prayer requests. The Speaking in Tongues Prayers were quiet and very dignified and no one did any “pew jumping.” At the close, we recited the Lords Prayer, Hail Mary’s for the Pope, and the Doxology. The other Catholic Church had a very structured Charismatic Group who had a speaker tell of his/her experiences as a Catholic Charismatic and then group prayer for any requests. And it lasted ONE hour and not a minute longer. Needless to say, I was unimpressed, especially when I heard the co-leader state that “we’ll see about that” after the new Priest (at the time) didn’t end a Mass in 60 minutes.

I come from a Pro-test-ant background, Lutheran and Assembly of God. I’ve jumped a pew (astounding myself, actually) “rested in the Lord” (we called it “slain in the Spirit”) many times when prayed for. I’ve been to 2 and 3 hour Sunday Worship Services as an Assembly of God and 6 hour Sunday Worship when attending House of Refuge (all black church). And on a couple of occasions attended “all night” prayer services. Yes, start around 7 or 8 in the evening and end at 6 or 7 in the morning.

I have dreamed of a Catholic church offering an all night prayer service, starting it with Mass, having adoration, then maybe the Rosary and the Stations in between times of prayer, with soft organ music and some hymns or Gregorian chant in between those and then ending with Mass in the morning. To my mind, that would be an utmost spiritual occasion on the order of Seven Storey Mountain or Interior Castles. (Each book was a highlight of my journey into Catholicism.) But unfortunately, I’ve yet to have any Priest get permission from the Bishop for an all nighter. And most cradle-Catholics think I’m nutz when I try to get support for such an “outlandish” (that’s not Catholic) idea.

My journey into Catholicism isn’t complete. I have lots to learn . . . but I wonder how it was on that First Pentecost Day when tongues of fire came down . . . didn’t that occur after an ‘all night prayer meeting in the upper room?’

“The purpose of these sanctions is to reconcile both men with the Catholic Church and to preserve the integrity and unity of the Diocese.”

That’s rock solid charity, thanks, Bishop.

He does bear a bit of a resemblance to Bob Beckel, but he is smiling by Beckel standards.

Charismatic Catholics are not a sect.

You may be right. Last Saturday I walked with a small cloth sack to pick up the black walnuts that had fallen off the tree out back. I just looked at my handiwork which is hanging on a hook to dry and concluded these so-called charismatic Catholics are not a sect...they are just a bag of nuts.

Why, bless your bowels, honey. I just love your sense of humor. Have you considered going professional on the stand-up circuit?

Welcome home.

Interesting suggestion for an all night “Catholic fest”. You may find the Vigil Masses for both Christmas and Easter come close to your dream scenario there. They aren’t all night, but do go for a good 3-4 hours.
