I keep referring to my kid’s school holiday as Christmas break instead of winter break. Even I have been indoctrinated though and sometimes slip up.

The poor Salvation Army bell ringers are saying “Happy Holidays”, now.

The first one I saw this year said it after I put money in and I yelled “NO!” [possibly a bit louder than I intended because he looked a bit freaked] Merry CHRISTMAS!”

He went from “freaked” to a big grin and yelled it back at me.

Hubby replied to another ringer with
“Holiday? Which holiday? Easter? St. Patrick’s Day”?

She laughed and said Merry Christmas with evident relief.

What a sin it is to forbid Christians from saying Christmas.

Drive their teacher nuts.

Send them to school with Festivus cookies, cards and stockings.

LOL :) Yep, tell them it’s our tradition. Want to challenge us—do it in court!

I have emailed the customer service dept and marketing dept of every store I know that has eradicated Christmas from their stores and have told them that I do my Christmas shopping only where Christmas is celebrated.

I then tell them that 85% of the population celebrate Christmas and ask them how well are sales going this year?

We say Merry Christmas to everyone unless we know for a fact that they’re Jewish or something else overtly non-Christian. We especially like to respond “Merry Christmas” when someone wishes us “Happy Holidays.”

I think when they say 'Happy Holidays' or 'Seasons Greetings', they are just being inclusive. Not only are they consolidating Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's together, hence the 'holidays' plural, but, Hannukah falls in this time frame as well.

If store greeters greeted everyone with Happy Hannukah, oh, then people would have a legitimate complaint, but, just as I don't want to be greeted with 'Happy Rahmadan', I don't expect non Christians to like being greeted with 'Merry Christmas'. It just makes it more inclusive and less apt to be offensive to keep the greeting 'generic'. If we don't want to be greeted with 'Happy Rahmadan' then we should force 'Merry Christmais' onto others. JMO

As for the naming of the PAGAN tree, who cares?

That should be- (fixing a couple of typos)

If we don’t want to be greeted with ‘Happy Rahmadan’ then we shouldn’t force ‘Merry Christmas’ onto others. JMO

Everytime I buy a Christmas present I say “Merry Christmas” to the clerk...I usually get them to look straight into my face, then they smile and say it back to me. They have a somewhat startled look, so I doubt they hear it much.

We have presents on St. Nicholas’s Day some years. This year we went to the Knights of Columbus party instead.
