Theological Roots Of Anti-Semitism In The Church
Anti-Semitism (hatred of Jews) has it's root in both classical pagan and medieval western society. Much of the anti-Semitism present in western society can be directly traced to erroneous Christian doctrine taught both in the early and medieval Church. The root of anti-Semitism is "rebellion against the Lord's unchanging prophetic plan for Israel, the Church and the nations". Our coming Messiah rules in the hearts of His covenant people in the gentle bonds of agape love. He will return to this earth to save His people in His glorious deliverance of Jerusalem at the Battle of Armageddon. At His Second Coming He will destroy the wicked and He will judge the nations. In the Millennium to come He will sit upon the Throne of David as the anointed Messiah/Christ. He will restore this sin-sick earth and the cosmos to the harmony and beauty the Old Testament poets saw. The people and the ecosystems will rejoice in that day. His glorious Millennial Kingdom will last one thousand years. (Rev.20) The spirit of Belial, (or rebellion), hates His coming rule with a passion. (Psalm 2) The reason is quite obvious. The return of Messiah will terminate the present gentile/heathen/goyim rulership. The current misrule of the angelic principalities and powers of this present world system will come to an end. Evil angels do their secret work. They pull the strings of depraved and lawless men. This is why the gentiles,(or nations), rage as we approach the end of this age. (Ps.2) The gentiles, (or nations), are identified in holy scripture as 'the heathen'. They are referred to by our Jewish brethren as 'the goyim'). Those among the gentiles who accept Messiah come into the covenants and the commonwealth of Israel by grace through faith. (Eph.2:12:13) The coming Christ or Messiah is the 'Son of David'. He is "the Lion of Judah". The hostility and the raging of depraved men is directed at the Jewish Gate of Judah. So essential anti-Semitism not "irrational" or "crazy" at all. There is a reason for it. And that reason is quite clear from our knowledge of the Holy Scriptures. This rebellious world system and its hierarchies hate and loathe the Throne of David! Messiah/Christ will rule over the nations from this throne. He will rule in the Millennial Age to come. The dark powers fear and dread His coming rule. It is this hateful loathing of the Throne of David and the rejection of YHVH/God's coming righteous rule under Messiah that is the quintessential spiritual origin of all anti-Semitism.

It was full of personal hatred and exudes racism between each syllable. The Catholic Church's attempt to justify this as a theological endeavor is, however....comical....but expected. It was doctrine and writings such as this that led your organization into the depths of the inquisition! You should not be so proud.
Well, thats your interpretation. BTW, the Catholic inquisition was carried out by corrupt papists and has nothing to do with orthodox or biblical Christianity. Hitler was inspired by demonic pagan mythology (Nordic gods, arayan race myth). He was not a believer.
Luther was idolized by Hitler and the Nazi party. Hitler cited Luther’s words in numerous hate speeches. Thus, Martin Luther may be instrumental in bringing about the WWII Holocaust!

Among the Protestants’ founding fathers, Martin Luther was particularly anti-Semitic. His writings were precursors of twentieth-century National Socialist texts. Adolf Hitler, Joseph Goebbels, and Julius Streicher gladly quoted from Luther’s works, even if he never recommended the physical destruction of the Jews. Luther did, however, advise burning synagogues in honor of God and Christianity, confiscating Jewish books, and expelling Jews from Christian countries. In 1985 the World Federation of Lutheran Churches distanced itself from these statements of Luther.
May I state that the Lutheran Church did “too little too late”. The monstrous damage had been done!

On January 30, 1933, German President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler Chancellor of Germany. But less than two months later, Hitler was the nation’s dictator.
Many German Christians at first openly welcomed Hitler’s Nazi party to power as a historic moment of Christ’s work on earth through and for the Aryan “Volk.” A leading Lutheran theologian wrote in 1934, “Our Protestant churches have welcomed the turning point of 1933 as a gift and miracle of God.”
A “faith party” of “German Christians” began to develop and grow in influence. In their first national convention in April 1933, in Berlin, the delegates stated their goal to reorganize the 27 Protestant regional churches in Germany into a single, national church under the leadership of a national bishop.
The “German Christians” published a number of programmatic papers during 1932-1933 that give us an insight into their hopes and goals. They wanted an evangelical church rooted in German nationhood based on an Aryan model. “We want a vital national Church that will express all the spiritual forces of our people,” stated one “German Christian” document from 1932.
On June 28, 1933, with Hitler’s authorization, Ludwig Müller, a fervent Nazi, took over chairmanship of the council of the Federation of the 27 regional Protestant churches. A new constitution established a single “Protestant Reich Church.” On September 27, 1933, Müller was elected national bishop by a synod dominated by “German Christians.”
Restrictions were immediately placed on the clergy. They had to be “politically reliable” and accept the superiority of the Aryan race. Pressure was exerted to expel Jewish Christians from ministry. The Nazi “Führer Principle” was to be adopted by the churches, which was a claim that Hitler was “lord” over the German church and that its Christ and Christianity were uniquely Aryan.
Confessing Church and Barmen
Some German Protestant pastors, led by Martin Niemöller (1892-1984), stood in opposition to the “German Christians.” In September 1933, Niemöller sent a letter to all German pastors, inviting them to join a Pastors’ Emergency League. Niemöller asked the pastors to pledge themselves to be bound to Christ as Lord, teach the gospel message of the Scriptures and the historic Confessions of the Church. Aryanism, a doctrine of racial superiority, was to be rejected as anti-Christian teaching.
In April 1934, the League created the Confessing Church. It included ministers and churchmen from Reformed, Lutheran and United Churches, as well as other church groups. The Confessing Church took its name from the fact that its members had pledged themselves to affirm the great historic Confessions of the Church.
The leaders of the Confessing Church met on May 29-31, 1934, at Barmen. Here they issued the historic Barmen Declaration, drafted by Reformed theologian Karl Barth (1886-1968) and Lutheran theologian Hans Asmussen with input from other Lutheran, Reformed and United Churches leaders. One of the original signatories of the Declaration wrote, in retrospect, that Barmen “appeared to us then like a miracle from God.”
The Declaration was written in direct opposition to the national church government—the “Faith Movement of the German Christians”—rather than against the Nazi regime itself. It challenged Christians who were attempting to bring the Protestant church into line with the nationalistic ideals and aspirations of Nazi rule. However, since the “German Christians” were a proxy for the Nazi state, the Declaration became also a prophetic condemnation of Hitler’s totalitarian rule.
The Barmen Declaration expressly asserts that Christ alone is the one Word of God—the source of all authority and truth—whom we must hear, trust and obey. It rejects the notion that other powers apart from Christ could be sources of God’s revelation.
It stands on the principle that Christ cannot be co-opted by, used in the service of, or be remade in the image of religious or political ideologies created by fallen human beings and structures in opposition to God. Barmen confesses the reality that God’s grace for us cannot be reinterpreted or replaced by ideas and programs growing out of human creaturely self-interest and evil designs.
In these ways, Barmen speaks not only to the times and crisis of the church in Nazi Germany, but to Christians throughout the history of the church and in our time and place. •

In recapping this entire posting; all of Christian history leads historian Hans Jensen to this conclusion:
Jansen remarks: “Substitution theology has been the greatest error in the history of the Christian churches. This was the belief that Christians had replaced the Jews in the covenant with God, entailing the false claim that Jesus was the founder of a new religion.”

Two obvious errors here. 1) the promise was to Abraham, not Israel. 2) The modern secular state of Israel is not covenantally related to Abraham, so Gen. 12 would not apply.
You also seem to forget that the true children of Abraham are all those who place their trust in Jesus Christ without regard to race or ethnicity (Gal. 3:28,29).
Below is part of the papal bull known as "Cum Nimis Absurdum" issued by Pope Paul IV in 1555.
§ 1. Desiring firstly, as much as we can with [the help of] God, to beneficially provide, by this [our decree] that will forever be in force, we ordain that for the rest of time, in the City as well as in other states, territories and domains of the Church of Rome itself, all Jews are to live in only one [quarter] to which there is only one entrance and from which there is but one exit, and if there is not that capacity [in one such quarter, then], in two or three or however many may be enough; [in any case] they should reside entirely side by side in designated streets and be thoroughly separate from the residences of Christians, [This is to be enforced] by our authority in the City and by that of our representatives in other states, lands and domains noted above.

Furthermore, in each and every state, territory and domain in which they are living, they will have only one synagogue, in its customary location, and they will construct no other new ones, nor can they own buildings. Furthermore, all of their synagogues, besides the one allowed, are to be destroyed and demolished. And the properties, which they currently own, they must sell to Christians within a period of time to be determined by the magistrates themselves.
§ 3. Unfortunately among Protestants this has also been heard. Below is a portion of Martin Luther's booklet, "The Jews and Their Lies."
Since they live among us, we dare not tolerate their conduct, now that we are aware of their lying and reviling and blaspheming. If we do, we become sharers in their lies, cursing and blaspemy. Thus we cannot extinguish the unquenchable fire of divine wrath, of which the prophets speak, nor can we convert the Jews. With prayer and the fear of God we must pratice a sharp mercy to see whether we might save at least a few from the glowing flames. We dare not avenge ourselves. Vengenance a thousand times worse than we could wish them already has them by the throat. I shall give you my sincere advice:
First to set fire to their synagogues or schools and to bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them. This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians, and do not condone or knowingly tolerate such public lying, cursing, and blaspheming of his Son and of his Christians. For whatever we tolerated in the past unknowingly - and I myself was unaware of it - will be pardoned by God. But if we, now that we are informed, were to protect and shield such a house for the Jews, existing right before our very nose, in which they lie about, blaspheme, curse, vilify, and defame Christ and us (as was heard above), it would be the same as if we were doing all this and even worse ourselves, as we very well know.
Second, I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed. For they pursue in them the same aims as in their synagogues. Instead they might be lodged under a roof or in a barn, like the gypsies. This will bring home to them that they are not masters in our country, as they boast, but that they are living in exile and in captivity, as they incessantly wail and lament about us before God.
Third, I advise that all their prayer books and Talmudic writings, in which such idolatry, lies, cursing and blasphemy are taught, be taken from them. [...]
Fourth, I advise that their rabbis be forbidden to teach henceforth on pain of loss of life and limb. For they have justly forfeited the right to such an office by holding the poor Jews captive with the saying of Moses (Deuternomy 17 [:10 ff.]) in which he commands them to obey their teachers on penalty of death, although Moses clearly adds: "what they teach you in accord with the law of the Lord." Thoses villains ignore that. They wantonly employ the poor people's obedience contrary to the law of the Lord and infuse them with this poison, cursing, and blasphemy. In the same way the pope also held us captive with the declaration in Matthew 16 {:18], "You are Peter," etc, inducing us to believe all the lies and deceptions that issued from his devilish mind. He did not teach in accord with the word of God, and therefore he forfeited the righ to teach.
Fifth, I advise that safe-conduct on the highways be abolished completely for the Jews. For they have no business in the countryside, since they are not lords, officials, tradesmen, or the like. Let they stay at home. [...]
Sixth, I advise that usury be prohibited to them, and that all cash and treasure of silver and gold be taken from them and put aside for safekeeping. The reason for such a measure is that, as said above, they have no other means of earning a livelihood than usury, and by it they have stolen and robbed from us all they possess. Such money should now be used in no other way than the following: Whenever a Jew is sincerely converted, he should be handed one hundred, two hundred, or three hundred florins, as personal circumstances may suggest. With this he could set himself up in some occupation for the support of his poor wife and children, and the maintenance of the old or feeble. For such evil gains are cursed if they are not put to use with God's blessing in a good and worthy cause.
Seventh, I commend putting a flail, an ax, a hoe, a spade, a distaff, or a spindle into the hands of young, strong Jews and Jewesses and letting them earn their bread in the sweat of their brow, as was imposed on the children of Adam (Gen 3[:19]). For it is not fitting that they should let us accursed Goyim toil in the sweat of our faces while they, the holy people, idle away their time behind the stove, feasting and farting, and on top of all, boasting blasphemously of their lordship over the Christians by means of our sweat. No, one should toss out these lazy rogues by the seat of their pants.
While neither Catholics nor Protestants have maintained anti-Semitism constantly over the centuries, they have certainly both taken huge part in it at times and some among us have at times taught in the name of God that others ought to do so. And it was pure blasphemy, as we all would agree, I think. And I am convinced that the purveyors of this blasphemy (Catholic, Protestant and otherwise) are all receiving their due reward in the flame of Hades. For as we know, the word of the only real master the Church has ever had said:
"He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' " ---Luke 10:27
And to him, the greatest love was not in committing violence against others but rather, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."---John 15:13
So while the Church has certainly had its anti-Semitic heretics in its midst over the years, the true teachings of Christ have never faded and his message has always in the end come out victorious.

So I understand now. Christians need not worry that they may have sinned, since Jews are no longer sons of Abraham. I can understand that completely. Would you care to tell that to the Jewish brethen you worship with? Well, go ahead, try it! Lets see if the rhetoric you use on the Internet flies with real people you know and respect. You may speek to a Jewish woman who worships at your church, whose entire family was sent into the ovens in Germany or Poland. Watch the tears flow down her face when she feels her heart torn from the wounds of a brother she trusted. She will say to herself, get thee away from this unclean person. Mark my words, every rash word you utter on this forum will come back to you. You will know what it is like to fall into the Lords disfavor. An then you will know that Israel is still “The Apple of His Eye”! This I do pronounce in the Spirit of the Lord!
Oh, come now. The point is that this passage has absolutely nothing to do with the treatment of individual modern Jews. Mistreatment of anyone, Jew or Greek, is sinful. You don't need Gen. 12 to make the case for that idea.
What the futurist dispensationalist wants to do by misinterpreting Gen. 12 is to create the equivalent of a special "hate crime" for Jewish people, as is it is more henious to mistrat a Jew that anyone else.
All the futurists warnings aside, you really should know better if you want to be a teacher and go into churches.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." (Gal 3:28,29)
Paul was either a confused dispensationalist, or he was no dispensationalist at all.

My topics were focusing particularly on the historic root of anti-Semitism being “Substitution Theology” in the Reformed Church. Hans Jensen seems to think the greatest error in the Church for all times is “Substitution Theology”.
The evidence shown in this thread is quite damning. Your slant on things is simply to deny any Reformed Christian responsibility.
I don’t want to stop this thread, but I am leaving for a business meeting soon and will not put much more thought into it. In a week I would like to focus my attention on a similar thread citing the response of key Reformed Church leaders on allegations that the Reformed Church is largely responsible for much of the anti-Semitism in the last two hundred years.
That's some heavy editing of Donahue's quotes to make it look like he was saying "secular Jews like anal sex". Posting a lie doesn't help your case.

Balony. Name on doctrine espoused by any credible Christian father or theologian that teaches people to be “anti-semitic”. ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself’ applies to Jews and Gentiles.

And my comment had to do specifically with a misinterpretation and misapplication of Gen. 12.
I've already commented on the matter of sin and how it relates to human relationships between various ethnic and cultural groups. I've said that such behavior is heinous and sinful whether it's gentile against Jew, Jew against gentile, Italian againt French, Chinese against Japanese, American against Russian, etc.
You seem to be stuck in an ethno-centric rut common to many futurists dispensationalists who see modern secular Israel as the focus of prophecies that are rightly interpreted in the person and work of Jesus Christ. This is the consistent testimony of the NT.
According to the NT, all the members of the new covenant, that is believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, are the children of Abraham. You can deny this if you wish, or ignore it as you have, and make disparaging and unsupportable claims against reformed Christians, but the fact is that the questionable interpretation of dispensationalism wrt Israel and the Church is the real problem. The way you get around it is to bring up folks that have been dead for 500 years and try to play connect the dots with those who oppose your theology.
But such tactics will not work. The evidence that they will not work is all around. One obvious proof is that you cannot deal will one simple chapter of Scripture, Galatians 3. It is the undoing for your entire system. I could point to many more, but just one is sufficient.
It does not matter what thread we are in, the basic truth is the same. Dispewnsationalism cannot account for the Church as it is clearly portrayed in the NT without performing great feats of theological gymnastics.
So, unless you are going to start quoting the Bible and not some dead theologians, the shallowness of your system is going to continue to be evident to all.
