"...The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16
Is it all just a coincidence that Sarah Palin was picked for VP? Was it nothing but a smart political move? Or did God intervene in the mind of a man?
All across the nation Christians are beginning to wake up and press in with prayer and fasting.
Sept 28 to Oct 4 is a week set aside to pray and fast for our nation! Please consider joining with us that week for revival in America and the future of our nation!
John Hancock:
In circumstances as dark as these, it becomes us, as Men and Christians, to reflect that whilst every prudent measure should be taken to ward off the impending judgments, at the same time all confidence must be withheld from the means we use; and reposed only on that God rules in the armies of Heaven, and without His whole blessing, the best human counsels are but foolishness Resolved; Thursday the 11th of May to humble themselves before God under the heavy judgments felt and feared, to confess the sins that have deserved them, to implore the Forgiveness of all our transgressions, and a spirit of repentance and reformation
"A Day of Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer, with a total abstinence from labor and recreation. Proclamation on April 15, 1775"sevendaysforournation
There’s only one flaw in this theory.
There is no god.
Abraham Lincoln in his Farewell Address in Springfield, IL as he was leaving by train to assume the presidency in an emotional address spoke to the crowd “President Washington never would have succeeded except for the aid of Divine Providence, upon which he he at all times relied. I feel that I cannot succeed without the same Divine aid which sustained him, and on the same Almighty Being I place my reliance for support, I hope you, my friends, will all pray that I may receive Divine assistance..”
from “Lincoln's Sword” Douglas Wilson
I don’t believe that God changes His mind. I believe when it speaks of God “repenting” of something, He changes the stated course of action that He is going to take. It is likely beyond our comprehension exactly how the Sovereignty of God behaves; however, I don’t believe that He is in a reactionary mode to us in that He would somehow have a plan B that is contingent upon how we act. He is omniscient, so nothing we do can take Him by surprise. Yet, sometimes, He lets us know If you do this, this will happen. If you don’t to this, this will happen. But that doesn’t mean He is sitting around waiting to figure out which way we are going to go. His plan is settled, from beginning to end, and He has already worked it around what He knows will occur in our lives.
Probably about as much as 9/11 was for a bunch of praying Muslims.
Being omniscient, isn’t everything that we will ever do or think, known before He even creates us...and yet He still creates us?
you know its true
sure. And it is often directing men’s hearts so that it all works out the way He intended as well (guess that is more omnipotence)
Exo 32:9-10:
"(The Lord said), 'I have seen these people and they are a stiff-necked people...leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.'
"But Moses sought the favor of the Lord, 'O Lord, why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?
"Why should the Egyptians say, 'It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth'?
"Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people.
Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self: 'I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promisd them, and it will be their inheritance forever.''
Exo 32:14, "Then the Lord changed His mind and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened."
And just about two weeks or less before she was picked as VP, thousands of Christians met at Washington DC for a single day of prayer and fasting.
Even the bad stuff?
Yes. Think of Pharaoh. Do I think God made Pharaoh evil? No. Pharaoh was evil to begin with. God’s grace keeps men from being as evil as they can be; and I believe when the Bible says that God hardened Pharaoh’s heart, it means He withdrew His restraining hand and allowed Pharaoh’s evil to develop. Romans 9 holds the key to why God does this. Bottom line, we wouldn’t know how evil sin is unless He allowed it to occur. He’s still in control of every situation to where Satan can not go further than God give him permission. But, even the bad stuff is within God’s control, though He Himself does not cause it to happen. He allows it and has worked His plan around it.
How can someone that God knowingly creates, be evil to begin with? Besides, God created satan knowing what he would be like, didn’t He?
Joan Rosenhauer, Associate Director for the USCCBs Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development, said that the special novena is part of the bishops campaign to help Catholics develop well-formed consciences for addressing political and social questions. The bishops issued their statement on forming consciences for faithful citizenship in November 2007.
Helen Osman, USCCB Secretary of Communications, expressed hope that the novena could help Catholics enter into prayerful reflection as they prepare to vote. Seventy-one percent of all visitors to the USCCBs web site download the free podcasts of the daily NAB readings. These same visitors are encouraged to use the novena podcast for prayer. Osman said that the USCCB wants to support Catholics as they weigh pre-election issues and that providing a prayer resource on the Web can help us focus on our common values and identity as Catholics. The novena emphasizes the dignity of life, justice, and peace.
The Novena for Faithful Citizenship runs for nine days and can be used consecutively, one day each week, for nine days prior to the election, or in any way that works best for a community or individual, said Rosenhauer.
The novena will be available for download until the election and it can be downloaded online at http://www.faithfulcitizenship.org/resources/podcasts.
For other Faithful Citizenship resources and materials visit www.faithfulcitizenship.org.
The Bible says that we have inherited a sin nature from our father Adam. Originally, Adam did not have this nature, but when he sinned it passed to his descendants. Satan was created as a perfect being as well, with the capacity to sin. Our wills want to sin. We don’t want God, naturally. We may know that there is a hole in our lives without God, but we try to fill it with gods of our own making (be they idols, or things like money, fame, etc.,) Only through God’s touch can we even have the capacity for a good nature. Men do good things, due to the image of God that still has its imprint on mankind. But ultimately, they will choose against God unless He intervenes.
That makes at least two of us. Perhaps we can encourage others to do the same.
So am I...But God's got a lot of work to do, and fast, if Duncan Hunter is going to pull out in front by Nov...
Why did God create satan, knowing the choice he would make before He even created him?
yes
