All of the early church was not Catholic

Then it wasn't the Church, they were heretical sects, such as gnostics or later Arians, and the church condemned then as contrary to the Apostolic faith.

Sure they could; parents make decisions about their children’s upbringing all the time, and if they don’t, they are bad parents.

Aha, I see.

Mt 16:18 is in part about St. Peter and his primacy, but it also is about Christ’s intention to build His Church which cannot go wrong. So even if for some reason the See of Peter were to go vacant (there are people who are otherwise quite Catholics who believe that), the prophesy about Christ’s Church still stands. Further, St. Peter has the intention to perpetuate his “tablernacle” (2 Peter 1:14-15), and he had the means of Apostolic succession just like any other apostle (see Titus and both Timothys).

The point of the Church being infallible is underscored in how St. Paul calls her the “pillar and ground of truth”. This is, of course, consistent with Jesus being in person the truth.

re post 301: you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater....you don't own the church franchise, despite 2000 yrs of running a semblance of the “truth”

It would be better if we all stopped the insanity of kneecapping the believers in Christ(no matter their moniker)
I think there's gonna be a few surprises in Heaven.

"the Catholic Church approved the new Testament...what’s wrong with this picture?"

Why nothing's wrong with it, if you're Catholic that is. It's just a good thing the Catholic church came along when it did, otherwise God wouldn't have known what to do.

re 304: I’m not getting into your doctrine with you. I plan on being in Heaven. If you love Christ and get there too, fine by me!

That must be the reason He built the Church in the first place. Smart God.

So who is the final authority on what, in the Bible, we take literally or figuratively? I know when Jesus said He is the “bread of life”, he didn’t mean He was a loaf of bread. No, he meant that bread is what sustains life. So He used bread as a symbol of His life that will sustain us eternally.

Luke 22:19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying “This is my body given for you, do this in remembrance of me.”

He broke the bread as a symbol that His body would be broken. He would suffer. He wanted us to remember the sacrifice He made on the Cross.

Luke 22:20 In the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

The cup symbolizes His blood shed for us at the Cross. In no way did Jesus want us to literally eat His flesh. That’s just morbid. Where is the message in that? Why would one want to literally eat someone’s flesh? All He wants is for us to remember the supreme sacrifice He made so we could live.

In I Cor 11 Paul is chastizing the church for their disrespect of communion, they were trying to make it a party instead of a somber moment of remembrance.

In John 3 Christ is describing a physical birth and a spiritual birth. Hence the need to be born again, only a different kind of birth (spiritual).

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

I don’t see where it say you have to be baptized in order to be saved.

I read Matt 10:22 to be “All men will hate you because of Me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

It just means to stay faithful. You by no means earn your salvation! I think anyone who believes they have to work for their salvation, grieves the Holy Spirit. If you have to work for it, why did Christ die on the Cross? You are leaving Christ on that cross in perpetuity when you believe you have to earn it. Look up grace. Forget that, I’ll tell you. Grace is God’s unmerited favor. And unmerited means unearned.

Eph 2:8,9 “For it is by GRACE you have been saved, through FAITH—AND THIS IS NOT FROM YOURSELVES, it is the GIFT of God—NOT BY WORKS, so that no one can boast.”

Romans 2:6,7 Paul is talking to the church about getting along. We, as christians, do good works, it’s part of the fruits of the spirit. But our salvation is NOT based on our good works, and for good reason too. Because we will never be good enough.

Rom 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.

I thank God for being so merciful and loving.

Rom 5:8 “But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

With your nickname you probably shouldn’t ask dumb questions.

Global warming - which ended ten years ago - is a natural climatic shift. It’s happened before and it will happen again. Nothing to get excited about.

What I’m saying here is that if you believe baptism to be salvific, only the person being baptized can make that decision. Infants cannot. You guys make up your own rules as you go along.

You just didn’t deal with the issues I raised in response to your request for my specific criticism of the article - except the following ad hominem attacks.

Whatever.

Wouldn’t the flood water be considered purification, in the sense that God had to pass judgement against man for his wickedness? And if that’s the case, it’s a judgement, not a baptism?

But what you’re supposing in Ezekiel is not baptism, but a cleansing, changing their hearts.

With my nickname I can handle anything you can throw at me. It amazes me how some here can go through a long diatribe and say nothing substantive, pick people apart because they have the audacity to disagree, and throw stones from their glass houses. I put myself in a time-out yesterday because the RM was right. I needed to walk away, because I was doing things that are contrary to what Christ taught. I am, at least, willing to admit I don’t know everything. I am dumb when it comes to having the full knowledge of Christ, the more I learn, the more I realize there’s so much more I don’t know. One thing I’m not going to do is let someone tell someone else that they have to do more than accept Christ into their heart to be saved. Christ Himself is offended by that. That means His dying on the Cross wasn’t sufficient. That is blasphemy!
