Devotional threads are closed to debate of any kind.
Caucus threads are closed to any poster who is not a member of the caucus. If it says Catholic Caucus and you are not Catholic, do not post to the thread. However, if the poster of the caucus invites you, I will not boot you from the thread. The caucus article and posts must not compare beliefs or speak in behalf of a belief outside the caucus.
Ecumenic threads are closed to all anti arguments. Posters may express the beliefs they are for but not those they are against. They may also ask questions. Posters who try to tear down others beliefs or use subterfuge to accomplish the same goal are the disrupters on ecumenic threads and will be booted from the thread and/or suspended. Do not pick at scabs by mentioning prior open threads. If you need to make a point previously made on an open thread, summarize it anew.
Open threads are a town square posters may argue for or against beliefs of any kind. They may tear down other's beliefs. They may ridicule, similar to the Smoky Backroom with the exception that a poster must never make it personal. Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of making it personal. Thin-skinned posters will be booted from open threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.
Well, that was pretty interesting. I always thought salvation was something we pretty much did every day since St. Paul talked about running the race and fighting the good fight. If it were a one time thing, I don’t think race or fight would have been the right symbol to use.
Also, I have never been cocky about my salvation. I have many friends that believe in the “once saved, always saved” concept and while I know that once saved, nothing can pluck you from God’s hand, I’ve never been presumptuous to assume that it’s a done deal so I take up my cross daily and each day just trust Him that I’ll continue on with Him.
I’m not saying this very well, but I think many Christians would believe in these statements wholeheartedly (not just Catholics).
Excellent post. I will post some other links about salvation on Monday. Leaving tomorrow morning for my dad;s 95th birthday celebration!
I know that once saved, nothing can pluck you from Gods hand
No enemy of yours can; but the faithful himself can lose his faith, and so, metaphorically speaking, jump out of the Father's hand.
some rejecting have made shipwreck concerning the faith. Of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander... (1 Timothy 1:19-20)brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election (2 Peter 1:10)
That is soooo true. I want to share something with you. Years ago I heard this Russian Orthodox priest on the radio and he gave THE best sermon I had ever heard on this subject and this is pretty much what he said. Also, a dear, dear friend of mine who is a pastor in the Christian Missionary Alliance Church once gave me this analogy. He said, “it’s like riding in the back of a pick-up truck hanging off the edge, going down an extremely rocky and bumpy road. If you hang out far enough, you might fall out.” (ha ha). I always think of that. Heck, I’m riding in the front with the seat belt ON (the armor of God).
Good verses too.
LOL.
The Orthodox material that I have seen on the web is usually very good, and at times clearer than what the Catholic sources have.
