Calvinism
[kal-vih-niz-um]
Also, Reformed theology, the Reformed faith, or the Reformed tradition.
A theological framework based on the teachings of 16th century French Protestant reformer John Calvin. The emphasis of this system is on the sovereignty of God over all things, with specific reference to soteriology (the doctrine of salvation). Though the distinctives of Calvinist theology may be stated in numerous ways, the best known summary is contained in the Five points of Calvinism. These points are: Total depravity, Unconditional election, Limited atonement, Irresistible grace, Perseverance of the Saints.

Calvin-ism......
You will find niether this word or doctrine in the Word of God.
It is extra-Biblical.
The Angel of Light has placed it into circulation.
Beware and be warned. But I am sure that you already know this . . . unless you are a follower of John Calvin instead of a follower of Jesus Christ.
Nor will you find Trinity.
I used to believe as you about calvinism not being in the scripture.
The word Trinity is not there, but all the concepts of trinity are.
Which is my point.
I hold to reformed theology - knowing all systematic theological constructs are imperfect. I do not consider nor call myself a Calvinist (Paul warned against being disciples of men) and I do not embrace the TULIP - seeing it as an early example of church marketing. I think the TULIP has poor word choices and have come up with my own construction of 5 points of reformed theology that, fortunately, do not lend themselves to a cute acrostic:
Dead in sins Ephesians 2:1 10
Elect of Christ Ephesians 1:3 6, 1 Thessalonians 1:1 4
Few are chosen Matthew 7:13 14, Matthew 22:1 14, 2 Timothy 3:1 9
Sovereignty of God Romans 9:1 24, Philippians 3:17 19,
Eternally Secure 2 Peter 2:1 9,
Oh sure you will. You won’t find “trinity” but you will find The Trinity throughout.
And you used to be correct, according to my reading of scripture.
2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
1 Timothy 2:3-4 - This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
These scriptures just don't jibe with Calvinism.
What kind of word is DEFSE? Is that anything like NARF?
LOL!!!!!
Pinky & the Brain are my favs!
Does your Bible have the books of John, Romans, Ephesians and Galatians, for starters?
You may disagree with Calvinism, but you can't say it isn't supported by scripture.
thanks
fred
Niether is “automobile”, “gas station”, “television”, or “veggie tales”, so none of them exist either, right?
I too, am a narfer and a poiter. I love Pinky better than the Brain. Manfred, if you changed the order you could have “FEEDS” or “DEEFS” or even “FESED” as in all confessed up :>)
This has been one of the most enlightening threads! Poit! Pinky’s attitude is irrepressible - reminds of me of the puppy we have in the house.
I’ll consider rearranging my 5 points; FESED makes the most sense; but I’m not sure I’m ready for “Pinky and Brain’s 5 points of reformed theology.”
Limited atonement (or particular redemption or definite atonement): The death of Christ actually takes away the penalty of sins of those on whom God has chosen to have mercy. It is “limited” to taking away the sins of the elect, not of all humanity, and it is “definite” and “particular” because atonement is certain for those particular persons.
As I’ve stated this point: Few are chosen Matthew 7:13 14, Matthew 22:1 14, 2 Timothy 3:1 9.
“What do you believe?” “Well, Sir, I’m all FESED up.” Yup, sounds good to me, too :>)
(although I do like the TULIP-vs-DAISY method, also)
Hint: the DAISY method is “He loves me, He loves me not...” :>)
