The sealing power means that when a man and woman are married, their marriage continues on beyond this life. Sealing is
An ordinance where the sealing power is clearly displayed is in marriage. A typical marriage ceremony includes the caveat "until death do you part", whereas marriages performed with the sealing power in a temple, can exist beyond death and into heaven. These marriages are referred to as celestial marriages, and are for eternity, not just until death. In this instance, husbands and wives are referred to as being sealed to one another, and the children are sealed to their parents, making an "eternal family."If a woman has been sealed to one man, then no, she can't be sealed to another man (in case her first husband dies.) Men can be sealed to more than one wife (such as if their first wife dies, and they marry a second time.) I can understand having more than one wife in the next life. I also believe that a loving Heavenly Father will take everything into account about sealings and the mistakes that we as mortals make.
Critics of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints would have you believe that once you die as a woman, you can be given to another man for his eternal wife. They make it sound like a marriage merry-go-round. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have wondered myself about the next life. My dad finally sat me down and said "How many men have died in wars throughout the centuries without being married?" I went Oh. I'm still not married, but I am promised that I will receive all the blessings of marriage, if not in this life, then the next. And I still have the agency to say No, thanks.
Let me throw this at you.
Mat 22:23-30 KJV
(23) The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
(24) Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
(25) Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
(26) Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
(27) And last of all the woman died also.
(28) Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
(29) Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
(30) For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
So Jesus said “No marriage in Heaven”. The women is not married to anyone in Heaven. Now let’s assume Jesus was right. If so, how does that change our perception?
Jesus always changes our vision of what we believe.
Not according to the BIBLE.
Romans 7
1. Do you not know, brothers--for I am speaking to men who know the law--that the law has authority over a man only as long as he lives?
2. For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage.
Please note especially the highlighted section:
According to the LDS "Church Handbook of Instructions," p. 73 of the 1998 edition, LDS contemporary practices embraces polyandry, not just polygamy: A living woman may be sealed to only one husband. If she is sealed to a husband and later divorced, she must receive a cancellation of that sealing from the First Presidency before she may be sealed to another man in her lifetime and later: A deceased woman may be sealed to all men to whom she was legally married during her life.
