LDS vs FLDS. Just for the record...

Some Mormon women sing...

Some Mormon women dance...

Some Mormon women write scary stories...

Some Mormon women have a lot of money and really great hair...

I know hundreds of Mormon women. They do all kinds of different things and live all different kinds of lives.

This woman served as a leader in the Mormon church. She recently spoke to teenage girls worldwide. She encouraged them to stand up to peer pressure, strengthen their families and serve others. (Click here for more.)

None of the Mormon women I know look like this...

None of them are marrying off their teenage daughters and-- although some may joke about wanting a sister-wife (preferably one who is really fat & ugly, does bathrooms and changes diapers)--none of them really want to share their husband with anyone.

Furthermore...

Some Mormon guys can throw a ball...

Some Mormon guys yell at the ball...

Some Mormon guys make scary movies...

Some Mormon guys have a lot of money and really great hair...

I know hundreds of Mormon guys. They do all kinds of different things and live all kinds of different lives.

This is one of the leaders of the Mormon church. Last Sunday he spoke about honoring women, especially mothers, and gave advice to husbands and children about how to treat the women in their lives. (For the whole story, click here.)

None of the Mormon men I know look like this...

The Mormon men I know are honest and hard-working. They don't cheat, smoke, drink or gamble. And TRUST ME....the last thing any of them want is another wife.

I just started reading this thread.

then please read the dates next time

Many LDS FReepers are said to be a very small handful with multiple names.

Im not aware of anyone else saying this - can you provide links ?

and to have the accusation that sevenbak and restornu are the same poster isn’t true. Because restornu had a 2nd FR handle several years ago, doesn’t mean that we all do. Or any of us do. And restornu was on probation for having a 2nd FR handle.

restornu ought to consider how that behavior was poor witness. Now before I get accused of hijacking this thread and someone whacks to button to have me booted, are we done with this?

One other comment from me. I was driving to work a couple of weeks ago and listening to Doug Wright on KSL. He read a letter to the editor that asked questions of the parents in the FLDS compound. This woman asked them “Where are your scientists? Where are your teachers? Where are your athletes?” Her point was that they were raising their children to be robots. It is very sad because that is all they know in life.

And I will post this once again. Before Joseph Smith was martyred, this is what happened. The disaffected former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints created a newspaper in Nauvoo. They put out one issue, then Joseph Smith, as mayor of Nauvoo, ordered the printing press to be destroyed. Was this wrong? Yes. However, it doesn't justify killing him. The rest comes from Wikpedia.
Smith’s critics said that he had violated freedom of the press. Some sought legal charges against Smith for the destruction of the press, including charges of inciting riot and treason. Violent threats were made against Smith and the Mormon community. Thomas Sharp, editor of the Warsaw Signal, a newspaper hostile to the Mormons, editorialized:
“ War and extermination is inevitable! Citizens ARISE, ONE and ALL!!!—Can you stand by, and suffer such INFERNAL DEVILS! To ROB men of their property and RIGHTS, without avenging them. We have no time for comment, every man will make his own. LET IT BE MADE WITH POWDER AND BALL!!! (Warsaw Signal, 12 June 1844, p. 2.)
Joseph Smith was arrested and charged with treason. However, before a trial could be held, 200 armed men stormed the Carthage jail. Their faces were painted in wet gunshot (what were they trying to hide?)
The mob fired shots through the door and attempted to push the door open to fire into the room. Hyrum Smith was shot in the face, just to the left of his nose. He cried out, "I am a dead man!" and collapsed. His body received five additional gunshot wounds.

Smith, Taylor, and Richards attempted to defend themselves. Taylor and Richards attempted to use walking sticks in order to deflect the guns as they were thrust inside the cell, from behind the door. Smith used a small pepper-box pistol that Cyrus Wheelock had given him when Wheelock had visited the jail earlier that day. Three of the six barrels misfired. Taylor later stated he had been informed that two assailants had died[7] of wounds received from the pistol; however, witnesses identified three injured men who survived and were later indicted for the murder of Joseph Smith.[8]Death of Joseph Smith Jr

As far as Missouri goes, in the Mormon war, one non-Mormon was killed, at the Battle of Crooked river. In the Mormon war, 21 Mormons were killed. Thousands of Mormons were forcibly expelled from Missouri. The governor of Missouri issued an extermination order, quite unique in the annals of time. You can read more about the Mormon war here. What is this sealing stuff? I am trying not to be ignorant but its confusing! If you are married to one man how do you get sealed to any other men?

The sealing power means that when a man and woman are married, their marriage continues on beyond this life. Sealing is

An ordinance where the sealing power is clearly displayed is in marriage. A typical marriage ceremony includes the caveat "until death do you part", whereas marriages performed with the sealing power in a temple, can exist beyond death and into heaven. These marriages are referred to as celestial marriages, and are for eternity, not just until death. In this instance, husbands and wives are referred to as being sealed to one another, and the children are sealed to their parents, making an "eternal family."
If a woman has been sealed to one man, then no, she can't be sealed to another man (in case her first husband dies.) Men can be sealed to more than one wife (such as if their first wife dies, and they marry a second time.) I can understand having more than one wife in the next life. I also believe that a loving Heavenly Father will take everything into account about sealings and the mistakes that we as mortals make.

Critics of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints would have you believe that once you die as a woman, you can be given to another man for his eternal wife. They make it sound like a marriage merry-go-round. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have wondered myself about the next life. My dad finally sat me down and said "How many men have died in wars throughout the centuries without being married?" I went Oh. I'm still not married, but I am promised that I will receive all the blessings of marriage, if not in this life, then the next. And I still have the agency to say No, thanks.

Men must have a cancellation of their sealings before they can be married in the temple to a woman again. I’m not sure when the policy changed, but it has been within the last 25 years or so. And no, I don’t know the reason for the change. I always assumed that if couples were divorced on earth, how could they stay married in heaven? It didn’t make any sense to me. And again, I leave it up to a loving Heavenly Father.

Revelation, I have a question for you. Why does God look so favorably upon the prophets in the Old Testament who had more than one wife? Abraham? He was told his descendants would be as numerous as the sands on the beach, and the stars in the sky. Isaac (later Israel) have several wives. David also had multiple wives. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob find exceptional favor with the Lord, yet they were polygamists.

I do find it interesting about David however. He had multiple wives, yet still lusted after a woman he couldn’t have: someone else’s wife.

The eventual gain of a mormon man's very own planet to reign over with his multiple wives would be the second ultimate goal.

All of the Mormon men I know do not sit around and think about how many wives they are going to have in the next life. It's not a goal for them. I've known 2 men who were excited to have many wives in the next life, both are no longer members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They are now both polygamists in this life, and as such, were excommunicated.

"Isaac (later Israel) have several wives."

Isaac, Israel's (AKA Jacob) dad had only one wife, Rebekah.

I will never forget the hymn “Come Thou Font of Every Blessing.” On 9/11, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was scheduled to perform for a convention. Instead, they gave a concert for the convention and the general public. Come Thou Font of Every Blessing was the last hymn sung. I will never forget that night, it really comforted my soul.

Um, so we’re supposed to answer posts in a timely manner? OK, thanks for the info.

I will look for the posts where some FReepers have said that there are many LDS FReepers with more than one FR screen name.

restornu hasn’t done it again, was on probation (I think banned for a period of time.) Do you not believe in forgiveness?

I’ll be back with references in a bit. I’m not going to hit abuse on you, I just thought it was unfair that you tried to connect sevenbak and restornu publicly as the same person.

“Do you know that for sure?”

That’s what Jesus said. He would know.

“Do you know that for sure?”

That’s what Jesus said. He would know.

Jesus was talking to those who were not under the covenant.

So Jesus answer to them would be for the path they are traveling on not the Covenant path.

But that would be hard to know if one don't have the fullness of the Gospel.

Some asked Jesus question to see if they could trip him up just as what some here do to their neigbors to try to undermind and them make them look bad!

You heard of the dispute those who are baptized vs. the one who think all they have to do is just believe etc!

Well the Lord said Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:

Who fault is it if you got wrong information?

John 5: 39
39 ¶ Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

I have no evidence that Clara May Jeffs was related to Rulon Jeffs.

Resty accused me of having Warren Jeffs as a relative. I was telling her that my pedigree chart is posted on my homepage, but Howard Hunter’s wife MIGHT be related.

Sometimes I wonder if people read what I type, or the thread at all.
