The significant thing is that Egan called him out on the public sin, that is, his political support for abortion. The marriage situation is obviously a problem, but that’s certainly not the greatest scandal or harm that Giuliani is causing. It actually surprised me, because Egan has not been very outspoken on abortion until fairly recently.

I was also surprised that Cardinal Egan spoke out pulically against Giuliani’s actions.I must give credit to the Cardinal on this occasion. I hope this is the start of something new.
