They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.
"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."
H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.
"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."
Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

Yes, I did have a young son die...he was just 15, years old, and died from complications of a very rare and usually incurable form of leukemia...
We had been living in our current place for only 8 months, when he was diagnosed...being as our move was due to being a military move, we were quite fortunate to be posted to Ft. Lewis, Washington, which had a Medical Center, as opposed, to just a military hospital, and actually had a pediatric oncologist on staff, which was a longshot, since the military at the time had only 5 pediatric oncolgist in the army as a whole...so since all that we needed for our sons treatment was right here, and we did not have to relocate while he was receiving treatment...at least he had the stability of a permanent home, as opposed to so many other cancer stricken children that wound be being helicoptered in, with their families, and their families having to take up temporary quarters...
My son lived for 15 months with his disease....he was diagnosed at the very end of the school year, and was never well enough to return to school...he spent 8 months out of those 15, as a Medical Center inpatient...
And yet as sick as he was, as near to death as he was, several different times, he remained optimistic that he would be cured...it was not to be...he had overcome very long odds, there were times when no one in the medical center, thought he would survive different complications that came along, and yet, he always did...the last complication however, was too much to overcome, and he died...
But I have always known, that he believed he would not really survive...there was something about him, that told me that...just a few weeks before he died, he sat me down, and told me, that if things went badly for him, in the upcoming weeks, when he was to have a bone marrow transplant, that I should not let my grief over his death, stop my life from cheerfully going forward...for he knew, for a certainty, that God would care for him, his Lord would lead him home, and once home, he would be happy and cured of his illness...he believed that as surely as he knew or believed anything else...he was more concerned for me, for his dad, and for his little brother, after he died...his wishes for us, is what has helped us go on...and we all know and believe, that when we ourselves die, our son will be there waiting for us, waiting with the Lord...
When my son died, we had his service in the chapel, in the military Medical Center...it was a very large chapel, and yet, it was standing room only...he had touched so many people with his generous spirit, and his love of life, and his love and concern for others...the chapel was filled with friends, and family, and doctors and nurses, and dieticians, and pharmacy personnel, and housekeeping personnel, and just about anyone who could be at my sons memorial service was there...it was as if, the whole medical center was on hold for a brief time, because so many hospital personnel were in the chapel, remembering my son...the most touching people at the memorial service were the other children stricken with cancer, that my son had been with, while he, himself was so ill...most of them, have also since died...childhood cancer, especially during this timeframe, 1985, stole so many of these childrens lives...
My son is buried in a very small cemetary on the California coast, teetering on a cliff, right on the ocean...it is a beautiful spot, where we can go, when we are down in California, visiting family...we go to the cemetary, and spend half the day there, remembering our son, with a smile, as he wished, and not with tears or grief...for we know, he is in a better place with the Lord, he is happy, he is well, and he is waiting for us...

There are different ways man is move from being centered in the Lord.
1- Should it really be an insult or a reminder to one, if one intentionally changes or spins ANOTHERS words to detract from the truth of the statement?

2- A child of God can get caught up in the moment and revert back to the natural man ways by being sarcastic or ulgy to their fellow man.

That was a really good movie...I love Costner and I think he is a much better actor, writer and producer than he is give credit for. I won’t forget how impressed I was with his “Dances with Wolves”. To think he directed along with acting in that! It won 7 Academy Awards.

I am not trying to manipulate anything, or looking for an escape clause...I am merely pointing out that different Christian religions have different ideas of how this comes about...now you seem to have it, that turning away from sin, is what leads to salvation...but the Calvinist would say, that one can turn away from that sin, only if God regenerates him first...on his own, man is unable to ask for forgiveness of his sins, because he is ‘dead’, and cannot recognize his sins...I would say, and I am sure a Calvinist will correct me if I am wrong here, but from I have read concerning the Calvinists, they say, that first God does something, He approaches the sinner first, it is God that does the reeling in of people, not the other way around...it is not that people are looking for God, and find him, and repent, for the Calvinist it is God making the first move on his terms, God approaches the sinner and God is so irresistible, that if you are one of the chosen, and God picks a moment to let you know this, by regenerating you, then and only then can you actually ask for forgiveness for your sins...as you were, in the state you were in, before God regenerated you, you could not ever ask for forgiveness, for as more than one Calvinist has stated, ‘Dead men, can not ask for anything, and until one is regenerated they are as if dead’....or words similar to that...
The ‘Truth’ that the Calvinist sees, is different from the ‘Truth’ that other Christian religions see, as far as I can make out...
Now my question is, who is right, who has the ‘Truth’ regarding this matter?
I think I have also seen it on the Calvinist threads, the statement that Jesus Christ died for all, does not mean for all mankind, but rather ‘all’ refers’ only to those all those people God has chosen in advance from the beginning of time...and all those that he has chosen, he will regenerate, so that they know they belong to him...after that regeneration, then and only then can they ask for forgiveness for their sins...
These are clear differences, in what different Christian churches deem to be the ‘Truth’...I just think that exploring and understanding how different Christian churches come to their particular beliefs and dogma, is interesting and worth exploring...
You know what a softy I am for the little ones. In Dragonfly, when the baby was brought out, well, lets just say I was glad to be watching it on video rather than at a theater. Watching a sixty-years old man cry is not entertainment for most folks.

I know that you son watches over you and I believe our love one visit us offten.
They say if we have the ability to see you would be amazed at how many are in the room with you.
I know when my husband is around his favorit opera comes to mind.
