FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

The Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints teaches that there is no other way but by Jesus Christ our savior, that man can be saved!

But WHICH Christ is that?

"virtually all the millions of apostate Christendom have abased themselves before the mythical throne of a mythical Christ"
(McConkie; Mormon Doctrine, p. 269).

"The traditional Christ of whom they [non-Mormons] speak is not the Christ of whom I speak"
(Hinckley; LDS Church News Week 6/20/98, p.7).

“As a Church we have critics, many of them. They say we do not believe in the traditional Christ of Christianity. There is some substance to what they say.”

(Gordon B. Hinckley, April 2002 General Conference, quoted in Ensign, May 2002, page 90)

Government should stay out of the home if at all possible. Personally, I agree with that statement in general, but believe protecting children from endangerment, including abuse and abandonment, is a warranted intrusion.

As do I; however, if I recall when reading a previous article in this, it was because of their age of minority status that groups have been unable to actually help these boys as the legal responsibility is with parents (who have neglected them/kicked them out, etc.)....this may be a way to allow organizations to better "legally" care for these boys (besides, perhaps, being a way to attempt keeping families intact).

First of all there is no such thing as Mormon Doctrine!

After perusing these threads lately, I do believe you are correct.

Lots of Mormon "speculation"; no Mormon "doctrine."

Absolutely we don’t believe in the Trinity Nicene Creed Jesus, The LDS believe in the Godhead; the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, which is in the Bible and the Book of Mormon

And there are many mainstream Christians that don’t tangle themselves up in the Nicene Creed I know for a fact in the 1960’s this was never a issue and it was something in later years they got many of the protestants to endorse this creed.

When I joined the Presbyterian Church there few who had the Nicene Creed, most used the Apostles Creed.

I would guess the current statutes poorly enforced and/or carry light penalties or the abandonment practice would not be so widespread.

Here is the crux of the problem. If this is a wide spread problem in Southern Utah then the local authorities are complicit in the practice.

This being the case either pressure must come to bare on the local LEOs or the law must be enforced by the State LEO.

This Jeff must have a great influence over his flock to have fathers cast out their sons.

Many years ago I asked the same question.

Given the different ways we are said to be saved, by the different churches I studied with, there must be more then one Christ. because He cannot be that confused.

Then I came across God’s Church, with Jesus Christ at it’s head, and his Prophet to speak for him.

Jesus has cleared up the confusion caused by the works of man, in their study of the Bible.

Why are you bringing up the “Nicene Creed”?
I am talking about Who Christ is (the Creator God) in Orthodoxed Christianity, as laid out in the Word of God.

I don’t go to outside sources to determine Who Christ is.

Your leaders admit, among other things: 1) they denounce all Christian religions as apostate; 2) they deny worshiping the same Christ as the Christian relgions; and 3) denounce/do not recognize the Trinity (i.e., the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit as One God in Power and Equal); 4) Jesus and Lucifer are brothers; 5) god the father has a goddess wife through whom Jesus was created (thereby reducing Jesus to a creature rather than the Creator).

Nice try at confusing the truth about what was said.

Someone who do not know that “Mormon” is only a nickname for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints might even believe you.

Please see my post #68.

I understand that you don’t rely upon anything but the altered version of the KJV, according to Joseph Smith, along with other stories he wrote.

I rely only upon the KJV or others such as the NAS, or sometimes the NIV.....which versions are accepted with all Christian religions.

On April 19, 1859, the newspaper Valley Tan printed an affidavit by Nathaniel Case which contained a statement implicating a bishop and other Mormons who lived in Payson:

“Nathaniel Case being sworn, says: that he has resided in the Territory of Utah since the year 1850; lived with Bishop Hancock (Charles Hancock) in the town of Payson, at the time Henry Jones and his mother were murdered... The night prior to the murder a secret council meeting was held in the upper room of Bishop Hancock’s house; saw Charles Hancock, George W. Hancock, Daniel Rawson, James Bracken, George Patten and Price Nelson go into that meeting that night.... About 8 o’clock in the evening of the murder the company gathered at Bishop Hancock’s... They said they were going to guard a corral where Henry Jones was going to come that night and steal horses; they had guns.

“I had a good mini rifle and Bishop Hancock wanted to borrow it; I refused to lend it to him. The above persons all went away together... Next morning I heard that Henry Jones and his mother had been killed. I wnet [sic] down to the dug-out where they lived... The old woman was laying on the ground in the dugout on a little straw, in the clothes in which she was killed. She had a bullet hole through her head... In about 15 or 20 minutes Henry Jones was brought there and laid by her side; they then threw some old bed clothes over them and an old feather bed and then pulled the dug-out on top of them....

“The next Sunday after the murder, in a church meeting in Payson, Charles Hancock, the bishop, said, as to the killing of Jones and his mother he cared nothing about it, and it would have been done in daylight if circumstances would have permitted it.-This was said from the stand; there were 150 or 200 persons present. He gave no reason for killing them. And further saith not. Nathaniel Case.

“Sworn to and signed before me this 9th day of April, 1859.

John Cradlebaugh, Judge 2nd Judicial District.”

changes nothing, by the works of man in studyimg the Bible there is a confusion in how we get to Heaven, that, can only be caused by more then one Christ, or a bunch of men who did not get the Word of God correct.

I know the Doctrine of The Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints teaches that there is no other way but by Jesus Christ our savior, that man can be saved!

Really?

So...can a man be saved through faith in Jesus Christ without being baptized in the Mormon Church?

The practice of Blood Atonement. Not of Christ’s atonement for you, but the early Mormon belief that one had to shed their very own blood to atone for certain sins (mainly murder and adultery)

LDS deny it ever occured or was taught, but the evidence is extremely compelling.

That depends on the meaning of the word “saved.”

Mormons believe in universal salvation through the atonement of Jesus Christ. Exaltation must be earned through obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel which included baptism (among others) by someone with proper LDS Priesthood authority.

How could murder “atone” for a sin? I don’t get that part.

This is one of those wackjob offshoots out in rural Utah, not the Mormon church. These communities also have one of the highest percentages of people on welfare.
