FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

There is no such thing as LDS doctrine!

There isn't?

OK...I am trying to figure out where/what the semantics are, here.

Does the Church of the Latter Day Saints not have teaching (a.k.a doctrine)relative to salvation, hell and exaltation?

If not, what did you mean by "salvation" in your post about the subject?

There is no such thing as the Mormon Church!

OK...What do you call the building that Mormons go to for corporate worship and what do you call the regulating body that govern the whole group of Mormons?

Ask resty, about “Gospel Doctrine.”

It’s the secret code word. ,-)

BTW, I went to lds.org and searched the word doctrine. The second entry said, “Approaching Mormon Doctrine.” LOL

So it’s not P.C. in your church to refer to yourselves as Mormons? Since when? Every mormon I know (quite a few) refer to themselves and their church as MORMON. And we have both sects here fighting it out over who’s the REAL mormon church.

Actually, they say the ‘Mormon church at the bottom of the hill” or “mormon church at the top of the hill” to describe which one they attend.

I agree completely with you....there will always be groups that are offshoots from other religions, and they use what they want from the former religion, and adopt other things to add to their new religion....

Was Jim Jones a representative of whatever religion he was supposed to be?...of course not...was David Koresh, representative of whatever religion he was supposed to be?...of course, not...Does the Westboro church represent whatever religion they profess to be?...of course not...
________________________________________________

Were Joseph Smith and Brigham Young representatives of the Church that the Jesus of the Christian Bible founded ???

Of course not

But there is no such thing as Mormon church, doctrine or salavtion.

(Do you make it this hard on everyone that is inquiring as to how you define salvation, and how you get salvation, in your religion?)

There is the Book of Mormon something like you would call the book of Matthew, Luke or John.

Are there such things as Mormons?

OK...In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, what is taught, with citations, related to salvation (what is it and how does one get it), hell and exaltation?

Am I straight on the semantics, now?

OK...I have asked you twice, restornu, what the Mormon doctrine is...and you have not responded.

She responded in post 37.

"First of all, there is no such thing as Mormon Doctrine."

When you realize that fact, it solves a lot of the issues here on the LDS threads.

It all makes sense now.

Thank you, colorcountry!

Oh restornu...shall we ping the Religion Monitor and tell him/her?

Or is the lds.org website wrong, too (relative to the use of the term "Mormon Doctrine")?

That is just your opinion of course, and nothing more...you clearly have your own agenda, and you clearly have your own interpretation of what type of church Jesus founded...and that is true of millions of folks, which explains why there are so many different ‘Christian’ religions.....you have one view, millions of people have a completely different view...

I am not a Mormon, nor a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints....

I do however, have great appreciation for how their religion has impacted their lives, judging this by the few times, I have had contact with everyday, real life Mormons...
What I discern about people, I try to discern from their actions, and how they go about life, and let what others may say about them to be treated as nothing of importance...

There is no such thing as Mormon church

That would mean there are no such people as "Anti-Mormons". In order for there to be "Anti-Mormons" there has to be Mormons. And since there are no Mormons, then there are no Anti-Mormons.

Also since there is no Mormon Church, there can be no such thing a Mormon bashing.

Wow that makes me feel good.

So who are all these invisible posters that cry foul every time someone criticizes the non existent Mormon Church? Are they just wandering cyber-spirits?

Oh...now you had to go and attack me personally. Shall we ping the Religion Moderator?

We have been through several semantical possibilities and, yet, you still have not defined the teaching related to salvation...Do you not know what it is? Do you refuse to define it? Are you hiding it?

What is up...You complain that posters misquote Mormon beliefs but then, when given an opportunity, you refuse to tell us what it is. Why?

Be my guess who you want to flag! But it is still the doctrine of Jesus Christ and Mormon is used at times for the non LDS but it has always been the Lord's doctrine!

SALT LAKE CITY 4 May 2007 Much misunderstanding about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints revolves around its doctrine.

The news media is increasingly asking what distinguishes the Church from other faiths, and reporters like to contrast one set of beliefs with another.

I know many who are anti try to divorce this fact from the Church that these are the Doctrines and Revelations of Jesus Christ!
