FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

I didn’t give you an inaccurate answer. Your so-called put-down just proves the truth of what I said. If the “mean” marriage age was 20, then at least half of the young women getting married were teenagers.

Every supposedly brilliant point you make can be countered, but it isn’t worth the time. I’m not going to be part of your game of gotcha, so you can get together with your fellow “Christian” holy warriors and crow about how many Mormons you insulted this week.

Yep, TIRED of BASHING MORMONISM.

Again, I have asked...but no Mormon has responded.

How/Why is it "Mormon bashing" to ask a Mormon how a non-Mormon is saved and receives the atonement of Jesus Christ?

How/Why is it "Mormon bashing" to ask questions about certain Mormon doctrines?

How/Why is it "Mormon bashing" to bring up factual history about Mormon prophets?

Can, or will, you explain?

It was not common for girls to get married at 15 or 16 in the 1800's. That is a myth and an inaccuracy.

Do you care to answer the simple/direct questions, now?

Probably not...but thank you for conceding victory!

I agree with you. The words of your leaders/apostles that he’s posting are quite insulting AND embarrassing to boot.

I understand how difficult it would be to to defend those words and direct quotes.

LOL, funny story...unless, as has happened to me, you have been sitting with your feet up on the wood stove, cracking open them pinon nuts and happen upon a deer dropping....;(

Well, if you cannot elucidate your beliefs, then perhaps you should rest a little. Seems to me you give as much as you take, hmmmmm?

If the “mean” marriage age was 20...

Oops!!!

That should say "average", not "mean", according to the article and according to the other poster that responded to you on the issue.

And the average age of a woman getting married, at that time, was above 20 years of age.

Anyways...it stands that your response (girls got married at 15 or 16 back then - eventhough Helen Mar Kimball was only 14) to a "yes" or "no" question about Joseph Smith's polygamous marriage to teenage girls constituting child abuse is inaccurate.

Is asking you to provide a Biblical source for your comments about Jesus, aloso “insulting” ???

I’m still waiting for an answer to a question that was not insulting and did not require you to defend your mormon beliefgs ...

To: lady lawyer
It’s straight out of the Bible. It should therefore satisfy you. Jesus refused to debate with Pharisees. He knew it would do no good. He is good example.

I am sorry that you don't have the time (or the truth) to counter them.

It is good that you realize, though, that your half-answers, inaccurate answers, and non-answers didn't in any way counter what I posted.

And as I thanked you for your concession to victory, I also thank you for the kind words about my points being brilliant...I got so used to Mormons calling me an idiot, insane, dull, a bozo, etc., I forgot that Mormons try hard to sell the LDS organization by being nice.

You can have the last word.

She says that she is not going to play and then she plays...She says that I can have the last word and then she posts again...sheesh.

Are you having difficulty making up your mind?

Marrying a 14 yr old constitutes pedophilia in my book.

Especially when the man is 37 years old (as Joseph Smith was)!

You and I are on the same page...as I think most people are (except for the Mormons).
